*Update Eddie Nunez Emerges as Strong Candidate for Miami AD Job

Depends on timing and willingness to wait. As I said above it is extremely difficult to get AD jobs at Division I schools.
Go look at Brian White's resume. West Point, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Missouri before he got the FAU AD job. You have to be willing to travel around.
Yeah this is why I got out of sports right after college. I immediately realize it’s mostly about who you know and how lucky you get.

The saying at my university from our administration was “you don’t get in to sports because you want to make money, you do it because you love it.”

It’s beyond difficult makes it harder when certain orgs aren’t all about winning. (Phins canes) sports business has too much luck involved

I WANT TO BELIEVE the people our Hurricanes are considering are not this foolish.

Then again, Miami.
I’m of the belief these guys know what they are doing when they enter these spaces. You have select to join, you don’t just accidentally fall into one. Especially Mirabal joining multiple of these spaces. I don’t know what the end goal is but I don’t think these happen accidentally.

Ur Avatar, though!!! Lol

Mike Bohn's football coaches at Colorado went a combined 20-54 during his time there, and that was after going 19-29 at SDSU. Basketball didn't fair much better. He essentially took a perceived demotion to go to Cincinnati. He made a very shrewd hire with Fickell, parlayed that into the USC AD gig and is now being universally celebrated for poaching Lincoln Riley away from OU.

Regardless of whether this is a real candidate, EN became AD for UNM in August, 2017 (AD for them for 4 full seasons, now in his 5th).

1. No football success, check.
2. No basketball success, check.
3. No real success as AD, check.

Bonus: Irrelevant ties to Miami, check.
**** it lets hire him!!!!

Sounds like he learned some lessons while gaining experience and combined that with newfound resources to make what looks to be back to back great hires.

I'm not trying to knock him, but imagine getting Riley to USC with near little resources was likely easier than it was to try and draw quality coaches to Colorado.

That said, you still have to have the right targets and actually get them when you have the chance. He did.

If we offer him $7.5-8M a year and Phil wants to go higher than that then that's on him. If he's a smart businessman he lets Mario walk and takes the $9M buyout and he goes and hires Kalani Sitake or something similar.

I think they'll be reluctant to give him a bigger offer than us after Utah gives them the business again in the PAC12 title game.

Mario has more value to Miami than he does to Oregon because his real recruiting ties and connects are in the Southeast, he's an alum, and he's got the culture reset that Miami terribly needs. If Oregon wants to be like Mich State and offer like Mel Tucker getting $95M - it would be the most idiotic thing they've ever done to give him more than he's worth.
Mario offers Oregon the same stability and growth he offers us. That’s why I think Knight will want to keep him. There ARE limits. Phil isn’t an idiot like those people at LSU who are throwing the bank at a Domer HC who has continually been dumped on by Bama (and us), but I don’t think he’ll let Mario go without a fight.

One other thing: what if Oregon WINS this title game? Then everyone’s calculations just went out the window.

I think we need to be talking to Lane.

If Oregon wins the Pac 12 title? Not sure how Oregon winning a conference title makes much of a difference.

How do you know they are not? One thing Lake's latest tweet suggested is silence can be just as loud as words. If Lane signs an extension in the next few days that should be a sign he is probably out of consideration. As of now, that hasn't happened. And considering all the noise in the recent upheaval in the coaching landscape the silence here has been deafening.

Simple majority of those who vote. But I have also been told that BOT votes rarely involve all 80-plus members. While we might like to assume that a vote of this importance will inspire every Trustee to participate, the nasty nature of the proceedings over the past few weeks might also push some Trustees to abstain from such a divisive vote.
I would assume they would have to reach a quorum so as long as there's a minimum representation they can proceed? Would hate these abstentions to purposely derail this process.

I don’t think I would compare GT $$ to LSU $$ in this day at least. I can believe a narrative about the LSU athletic department being a mess at this time and he jumped ship at a new job opportunity to get out, but this idea that he was some sought after fundraiser doesn’t add up
No, he most likely took the AD job at UNM as a stepping stone. You missed the key components for those who are ambitious. AD jobs are very difficult to get. I guarantee you he is in the $400K range at New Mexico which would be more than he made at LSU. Woodward at LSU makes $1.25M. Kirby Hocutt makes almost $2M at Texas Tech.

Alleva been gone from LSU for 2 years man. Maybe you need to look into why he’s not there anymore.

Yes, I corrected it immediately after I posted it. Woodward makes $1.25M. Alleva still works at LSU and a fund-raising capacity. Again, the Wade issue has exactly what to do with Nunez?

my guess is that Mario has already spoken with Phil and told him that this move has nothing to do with money. it's home, it his alma mater. his kids grow up with grandmother, uncles (Luis) and aunts and family. there is no substitute for that. i'm sure Phil understands this

Point taken. A few days ago there was a report that a Canes’ booster’s private jet was on its way back from Mississippi. But it was only one report and it wasn’t sourced.

who knows? But he has still to sign an extension (after a great season, by the way by Ole Miss standards) so that tells you something without having to say anything.
