UM offers 2020 DT Westley Neal

I don't have any insider information but I really don't expect Harris to sign with us in the end. Feels like another one of those elite kids who really wants to come here but is persuaded to go elsewhere by "other" factors, which are admittedly very hard to pass up.
I think it ultimately comes down to the product we put on the field over the next 2 years. Let us show improvement and win the Coastal back to back I think he'll sign with us, but if we're still inconsistent on the field he's gone. Winning is the most important recruiting tool.

What do you think about Neal? The competition Gulliver plays is suspect to me.
Gulliver plays pretty decent comp but the real upside to the Gulliver kids is the coaching they receive from coach sims. Been around football my whole life and coach sims was the best coach I ever had. Joe Jackson was a Gulliver kid and made a big impact from the jump if we sign Neal I think we will see the same

I agree.

Sean Taylor was the worst.

Small school recruits never pan out.
Dumb response. I never said small school recruits never pan out. I was just pointing out the level of competition appears weak from looking at his film. Here's Gulliver's schedule from this past season, you can't tell me that's a good schedule. Bum ***.

Hold your horses my friend, Vince Wilfork was a war daddy at every level. Neal is a good but not War Daddy good. There are roughly 2 or 3 DT'S in the state for the 2020 class that approach war daddy status an they are Timothy Smith and Jalen Carter, with Smith being the closet to big Vince in size, athleticism, and production.

There are major bags being dropped for Carter and Bama has Smith in a holding pattern until they hear from a few other DT'S they are negotiating with so Smith is working with FSU/UF to secure smaller bags. I was hoping Smith would fall to Miami by default in the 2020 class.

This dude is more similar to Wilfork than you're giving him credit for. At the combine Wilfork measured at 6.1", and Neal is 6.05". In addition they also have similar body types as well. As for Smith and Carter being better prospects..I don't agree with that at all. Smith on tape looks slow & unathletic-there is no way in **** he is a better athlete or possesses better movement skills than Neal. Neal is explosive both from a powerlifting, and agility standpoint. Smith being recruited by Bama has more to do with scheme fit, than actually being a better player. As for carter-he is a better athlete than Neal, but is he a better pure DT than Neal? I think that's debatable. In a few yrs..when Neal ends up being the better player than both Smith & Carter-we will once again revisit this thread. I do however give you credit for predicting that OT McLaughlin would receive a Stanford offer-I was wrong about that.

Smith at 350lbs looks to you unathletic in these highlights. One of his first plays is a scoop n score with defenders around him. C'mon now.

Big Vince in High School for comparison

Don't get me wrong I like the Neal offer, but Smith is a War Daddy type in the middle.

U think the scoop and score shows athleticism. All it shows is an a Dl pick up the ball and run really slow with 2 skinny as defenders to scared to tackle him. I have not watch his tape, so I do not know if he is athletic or not, but the example provided was not good.

6'4" and 350lbs on dead run the young bands down a scoops a football, **** yes that shows athleticism an you don't understand that then your uninformed because that is one of the hardest things to in football for a lineman. You should watch his entire highlights before commenting, there is a reason Smith as DT's go is rated # 13 nationally and # 3 in Florida. Not being penalized in his rankings for not participating in the camp circuits this year.

What does ranking have to do with anything, I never said he was bot good. He picked up a ******* ball and ran. Yes, it is athleticism compared to the average Joe, but we are talking about D1 prospects, plenty of other D1 DTs who can pick up the ball and run it for a tad with an entourage around them, therefore his athleticism is nothing special. Compared to the other Dts we have had he is pretty far down the scale when it comes to athleticism. I never said he wasn't good either

If we remove those type of splash plays from the equation, do you still think he's athletic? Historically we are literally the team that invented the term "explosive, 1-gap, penetrator." We have to get back to recruiting those type of players at DT, and Neal fits that mold. Smith in my opinion belongs in a 2-gap scheme, similar to what is deployed at Bama. Also if MIA decides to drop Riggins, I believe the 3rd DT should be Newton, in addition to Moise & Neal.

This sentence is literally everything that is wrong with recruiting, especially in South Florida. Guy receives his dream offer and you need to ask if we'll even make his top 8? Not a criticism of you but just very frustrating.
He received the UM offer after dropping his top 8(thinking he wasn’t going to get a UM Offer)....

Does this kid replace Riggins if the staff decides to drop him? I know Miami isn’t taking more than 3 DT’s. Losing Bethel, the UCLA guy, and probably Martin after this year. **** I think they may not take more than 2 DT’s.
Definitely taking 3-4 DTs.

Newton before Pinder?
