UF-Miami matchups

It was more scheme I think for our oline. I know someone like LU can give you a better breakdown but we never really committed to trying to run the ball. Look at ND game, we basically went into that game and said nope, we wont be able to run against that front 7 (I think they had the best run D going into that game) so Fisch game plan was to spread them out and attack them deep. We just couldnt execute and had drops. When we did try to run in games we never committed to it or tried to get to the edge. We never pounded teams. Not sure how Coley will differ but we have a good oline who still has something to prove from a run aspect and we have a senior QB who they might put the ball in his hand and tell him to win. So who knows.

As for your DBs, they are very talented, got alot of respect for your corners and the Dline I am sure helps them but I hope our WR core does to them the samething the last 1st round CB strolled into miami (Amerson).

watch out for this guy

I hope your son balls out this year, Duval. Just hope he goes easy against the Canes.

i think the way to beat uf's defense is to run right at them. a poster above mentioned it, but we are thin and inexperienced at lb and the morrison loss will hurt. if you try to spread us out and play in space it plays right into the strength of the defense.

a perfect example of that is a&m. they blitzed us early then once we adjusted they were held without a 1st down in the second half. uga tried to do the same thing and we wrecked their offense. our d-line pins their ears back and gets up field so that's exactly the type of game they want to play.

i'm sure you all have high hopes for coley but i think how he decides he wants to call a game will be very critical for not only this game but the season. i have not ever been impressed by jimbo fisher's gameplans and coley was supposedly the guy who drew up the plans during the week. one series they were spread throwing it over the lot, the next spread option, the next downhill power football. despite the talent fsu has had they seemed very inconsistent at best. it will be interesting to see how coley coordinates miami's offense because behind clemson i think miami has the best offensive talent in the league.

Good post. Funny that you mention Amerson. Because I think one of the big things that caused him to struggle this past season after being hyped up from his past work, was the loss of some good experienced safeties in the backfield with him. His gambles and style no longer had the same caliber safety net and it threw him out of whack.

I haven't seen enough of UF or their CBs to know what they're really made of. But, I know Elam was arguably their best player last season. I hope the lack of safety experience/ability somewhat curbs the CBs effectiveness compared to last season.

about elam, dude is a super stud no doubt. but i don't think his loss will be felt as much in the secondary, at least not when it comes to defending the pass or playing the deep ball.

we used him in a hybrid safety/linebacker nickel role and 90% of his snaps were near the line of scrimmage. very rarely was he in coverage beyond the intermediate area, josh evans was our deep safety. where we'll miss him is in his playmaking near the line of scrimmage and special teams, he was a beast there.

i'm actually sweating losing jelani jenkins more that most. he was an excellent cover linebacker along with bostic and i have a feeling miami will try to exploit out linebackers in coverage.

Miami's Oline actually did very well in pass blocking fsu and nd, the problem with the oline is they couldn't get a push or open creases for the run game. Hopefully with another year of strength training and experience that will change. We should be able to pass block against the gators but i still don't think we will be able to run consistently. The match up between the receivers and dbs should be fun to watch.

It wasn't the case with fsu IIRC but vs ND we couldn't open up any holes in large part due to us being one dimensional. We had so many drops that game that they played us run heavy.

I know we had to abandon the run against ND fairly quickly because of how the game played out but we stayed fairly competitive with fsu for 3 quarters and our total rushing offense was less than 30 yards

Powell is a DE.

UF secondary has Roberson, Purifoy, Watkins, Poole, Gorman, Riggs, Brown. All hugely sought-after recruits. They're going to be tough to beat.

Serious question, because I'm too lazy to check, but how good are your punter and kicker? I honestly think special teams will be a huge factor in this game. Al has done a tremendous job solidifying our ST unit. I am scared to death about our field goal kicking (especially outside of 40 yards), but I have to think our punting and return game will help us in this game.

those first three are as solid as a trio as any trio in the nation

the punter christy is one of the best in the nation.

the kicker is unknown. but if the spring game is any indication he stinks, he is not automatic like caleb sturgis was last year.

So we'll be seeing Flowers or Henderson banging it with Powell. Should be fun.

Walford, Dorsett, Waters, Scott, Hurns, and Lewis are a solid group. Morris and the passing attack vs the secondary is going to be fun, but it won't matter if the OL can't hold up.
