UF commit Shawn Davis reaches out to Miami

He wants to enroll early. He is 1 credit short or his GPA won't go through clearinghouse (depends who you listen to), UF won't budge, he's not happy about it. Miami saw the door was open and slid right in. He did for sure get a visit from Banda recently. Also the kid just said HE didn't reach out to UM. Didn't say anything about HIS CAMP not reaching out...

The latest I got.

dont understand that. If the it won't go through the clearinghouse... How would UM be able to do anything different than UF? and "UF won't budge", how can they?

The school can do whatever they want. They can easily allow him to enroll while work on finishing whatever he needs to finish to get that credit through the semester.

doubt that

Lol what? Miami is free to do what they want for an incoming freshman. If they want to put a plan together for him, nobody is stopping them. If it's a class that UF won't take, they can make it happen. The schools are free to do whatever they want.

There are limits to everything.

The issue is fairly simple. If a student-athlete needs to take remedial classes, WHICH DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE MAJOR, that also means they they are not making academic progress. Thus, UM might allow a student-athlete to take a lower-level math class to prepare for the Business Calc major that is required for any business school major, but they are not going to allow a student-athlete to take an entire semester's worth of remedial classes, because that would be the APR equivalent of failing every class for a semester.

UM cares very much about student-athletes graduating (particularly with all the early NFL entrants and transfers) and UM cares very much about the NCAA APR rankings.

Once upon a time, I tutored Horace Copeland in a couple of remedial classes, but that was long before the APR rules.

If this is a one-class situation, it may not be a barrier. But there are limits as to how far UM can or will go.

The same way UM can "put a plan together" to get kids like Choc and Mullins in? I'm no expert, but there's wiggle room on the school's end.

Has nothing to do with wiggle room. All NCAA institutions are gave four academic exemptions per cycle. Those exemptions go towards anything except test scores. To be clear I don't know his situation either. I'm only talking about every university having 4 exemptions. Uf clearly just doesn't wanna use 1 atleast of theirs on him.

Not one mention of Frenk in this entire thread, huh? 2 years ago, Shalala's name would've been in every post. Let's see if Frenk really does care about putting the football program back on the map, bring in the savages!

Frenk doesn't micromanage like Shalala.

Not sure where you're going with that. You saying Frenk won't get involved in getting Davis in?

Usually a schools Dean won't get involved in one players admission process beyond signing off from his office. But this is what he has an admissions staff for.

So according to Brooklyndee uf appears to not want to apply one of its Academic exemptions on Davis. That fleshes this out a bit as a possibility of what's going on.

I guess the questions would be is Davis willing to grey shirt at uf? If so then this is moot. If not, then, do we have an academic exemption we would be willing to apply to Davis' admission? And of course, would he be willing to come to UM?

I don't know if they want to use one or not on him or if his situation would require more than 1. An exemption applies to each issue (outside of testing)not each player. Anotherwords if he has three things that admissions or the clearinghouse flagged as issues that three exemptions they would have to use.not 1. As I said I don't know this kids situation.

You're not getting a 4-star S/CB to grey shirt who has other options. Besides, his issue is getting into the school. Grey shirt is if they didn't have a scholly for him.

After Trayone Gray got in I am of the belief that a college can get anyone in that they want to... I was close to that situation andcould not believe he got in.... anythings possible when it comes to GPA and test scores... But lack of credits there nothing you can do...

I'm confused, are we actually in this or nah?

Our chances quadrupled from 1% to 4%.
