U. School 4-star Sanguinetti updates recruiting process

Good, either commit or cya later. Love it. A offer is worth something again at Miami. That’s all we ever asked for.

Sounds like Miami isn't the only school that has gotten in less contact with him and all of a sudden guy is humbled after trying to shop his talents (or lack there of) as if it were bag worthy. Good luck at Nebraska.
Gonna come back like Wayne brady

We can't afford to write off kids, **** we dont have a full 85 scholly roster yet. The kid can ball, we will see how he does at The Opening to judge him.

It's not the 85 scholarships that's the issue, it's the fact we can only take 26-27 due to initial counter rules in this class.

Under the old rules when you could back count kids, we'd be able to take 32-33 kids (like we did in 2008) to fill up the 85. Obviously Sanguinetti would definitely be a guy you could take a chance on then. Now, we'll see. I hope they don't take him off the board, but there are definitely kids I'd have ahead of him at DB.

I think EJ Jackson would be a good look, feel like he can play corner or safety at a Miami level with the right coaching.

Recruiting is something that is great to follow which is why its addicting to a lot of people on here. (me being one of them) Situations like this are the reason. This kid about 6-8 months ago would have been on everyones top 5 "Must Get" list. He was the crown jewel of 2019 secondary class along with Stephenson. Now all of that is over. As JayZ famously said, "It was all good just a week ago."

This is why it annoys me when people say we should wait till the next class to address issues (They're already saying this about the QB situation - Talk like that is how you end up with Rosier and Sheriffs as your 2 best QB in a given). You don't know what it going to shape up to be 10 months from now.

Like his film, but not even going to lie sanguinetti played this all wrong and should have committed to UM when his commodity was high and a big time target in the spring
I thought his film was okay, with him being a safety I was looking for more physical play. Didn't really see any big hits, although he did play well on the ball. Do you think he's the right compliment to the more physical type play safeties we've recruited here lately? I was high on him before but it seems like the staff is taking a step back now and I wonder if its due to him not being so physical, the 40 time that everyone speaks of or from level of competition.

He’s not physically developed and looks small, I’m sure he would gain weight but you don’t want to recruit too many 4.8plus dbs that are also small too. Can’t be small and slow

To many other raids at his position who are better and they showed more interest in miami than he did so they didnt want to waste time they told him we want u bad he tried to play this Stanford or the U but now it dont even sound like Stanford is top school anymore smh

OK... but we still would drop him in the fall if he doesn't pan out. Maybe could've leveraged the offer, but if the goods aren't there the staff isn't gonna take him, and this staff seems to have no problem dropping commits.

On a 75* sunny day, he ran a 4.86 40 and had a 4.53 short shuttle time. Those are great numbers for a 280 lb lineman. Not a 175 lb CB. If I remember correctly, his vertical was laughable too. So at this point, he's not fast, he's not quick or agile, he can't jump and he's got mediocre size. Not exactly a guy who screams top flight CB at a P5 school.

Now, maybe that was just a bad day. Maybe he was sick or injured. He'll have chances to show that the Ohio opening was a fluke. If he doesn't, let someone else use a scholarship on him.

Mark D'Onofrio's ears just perked up somewhere in an Arby's bathroom.

I like him better then a corner who’s never played the position ( damarious good ) I hope he redeems himself and runs faster then 4.8 at the opening. His tape is legit he is a baller on the field just not at combine testing

The kid probably has bad form or a terrible start when running the 40

What's the excuse for the 28.5 vertical jump, Mr. and Mrs. Sanguinetti?

To play devil's advocate, people here get obsessed with the weirdest **** while not even understanding what they're discussing.

The NFL combine knows how to test a vertical jump. They use Vertecs and I imagine that's what they do at the opening. Is it straight up leaping though or with a step allowed as some do when testing vertical leaps? Perhaps someone can answer that.

NFL Combine results at the position:

He does test below the average. I didnt add it all up, but we're talking 1.5 to 2.0 inches or thereabouts.

His vert will increase as he goes through college and gain a bit by combine time. I'm not saying he's destined to go that route in four or five years, but a strength program and the natural evolution of the human body over time, it will go up.

Average Vertical Jump: By Age, Sport, NBA and NFL

People see so and so has an exceptional number and just assume it's common. He has an acceptable vertical, but that 40 is darn low. I'm interested to see what he does this next round.

Let us compare apples to apples.

By my count, 59 DBs performed the vertical jump at the Nike Opening in Canton. The top vertical for a DB was a 41.7" (13.2" better than Sanguinetti), and the worst was a 26.4" (2.1 inches worse than Sanguinetti). The average vertical was a shade over 33.1", which is still 4.6" better than Sanguinetti. Of the 59 DBs, Sanguinetti had the 7th worst vertical jump (and 4 of the 6 kids who did worse than Sanguinetti were 2020 kids). That puts him in about the bottom 10th percentile (against mostly kids from the Midwest, many of whom will not be playing at P5 schools).

I pointed to the vertical jump above because there are less excuses for a bad vertical jump than a bad 40 time. But as bad a 40 as he ran, his vertical jump may have been even worse.

A slow 40 can be passed off on poor form but when you are near the bottom of your position group in all the drills, it's more than just poor form. You're just not a good athlete.
