If the offense can sustain drives for more than 40 secs a pop it will make the defense look better just because it will not be on the field to **** up. I have faith, ( in Olsen)

I definitely agree with your point as I have made the same one in the past. However, the problem isn't that the defense performs well for most of the game and gets worn down. The problem is that they struggle from the opening kick-off and the scheme is ultra conservative. The numbers would obviously improve if they were on the field less, unfortunately the product would not.

I want this team to play defense like both of the teams that we saw last night, very aggressive, multiple looks, disguising blitzes, penetration from the DL, and ferocious tackling. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we are going to see that for a while around UM. :ohlord:

'99 Canes went 9-4....

The '99 Canes also had:

- improvement as the year progressed (capped with a win over UCLA)
- young talent starting to emerge everywhere, including a young RS Fr QB named Ken Dorsey
- I believe they won 4 straight at the end of the year...including the Gator Bowl

This team stumbled at the end, and that's not including the raping at the hands of Louisville.

I believe that it was '98 that they beat UCLA in the season finale. Other than that I agree with what you are saying.

You are absolutely correct sir. Thanks for the correction.

Some just can't help but be pessimistic and all doomsday about the program but what's the point of rooting for a team if you can't even see the potential? If Kaaya stays and Golden gets his players healthy and in place this team will be awesome in a couple of years.

Isn't this upcoming senior class Golden's kids?

What have you seen from them (talent wise) that indicates a massive jump in potential?

Also, the schemes are not built for the talent down here. The DC is still here and regardless of what Golden says in a press conference, this is the same scheme in principle since he started.

Golden kids put together at the last minute.

So what is the bar here? 2015?

According to most on here, the 2012 class was stellar. They will all be in their third or fourth springs this year.

I just want to make sure I'm aiming right here since the goal posts here move as far or as near as the wind is blowing.

You got to have a DL to compete seriously, we can't even recruit DT's.

I'm with you Pete..I want to buy in to your op...but if we don't have legit coaching, we've got nothing

****, literally a third of that 2012 class of 33 kids are already no longer in the program. IMHO that's a contributing factor to the problems we are having, and an indictment of the CEO that he must address/change. Personally I hope Coley's eye for talent is helping to change the trend of class attrition that has appeared to have continued from the Randy Shannon days into Golden's tenure here.

I agree with the premise. ****, in my mind, really put them over the top this year.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to sell them short. Great team on both sides of the ball, plenty of depth, etc. We really saw what stacking blue chipper after blue chipper can turn into. After they beat Clemson this year, I knew this was it.

But we've watched them take home the national championship on signing day only to laugh like **** watching them shart against teams like Wake and NC State over the past couple of years. **** is a special, special talent and he was the difference (at least in my mind) of winning the MNC as opposed to not.

That being said, as long as Golden and the boy wonder are running this defense, I'm not optimistic we'll ever reach that level. It suppresses the talent and aggression we recruit.

We'll never have a defense like FSU, even if we employ the same personnel, if this coaching philosophy sticks.

Love the pro-Golden folks who claims it's just talent. Tell me how you feel when Doritio is lining Chad Thomas up against wide receivers. These guys cannot coach on Saturdays. They make Jimbo look like the GOAT.

We heard it all yesterday during the interview: No coaching changes, we're working our tails off to fix it, everything straight from Al Golden manual of corching.

We have Al Golden.

FSU fans wanted Jimbo gone after that season and last after he lost to NC State...

I wonder what they think of him now

It was only about 11 months ago that we all thought things were literally falling to pieces around Jimbo with all his coaches leaving. Looks like he made all the right personnel decisions in replacing his departed assistants. Maybe we just need to do the same thing.

Im sure they also won their bowl game, ND I think? and were ascending

We beat Georgia Tech in the 2000 Gator Bowl to cap off the 1999 season. Had we beaten Louisville to end this year, maybe comparisons to the 1999 team would be valid, but this years bowl game showed us exactly where the program is right now, and it isn't close to where that 1999 team was.

FSU also invested money, lots of it, on their program. They completely changed their strength program, brought in a full time nutritionist, and use a sliding scale that allowed them to take would be Canes.

Kids who can't get in here, but can get into FSU/LSU/AU/LOU will naturally view Miami as an elitist school. Pete, you yourself said that's how we are often viewed. FSU started organizing its boosters and they played SEC ball in the recruiting game. They were pulling top 3 classes despite **** records and were beating Bama and UT and USC for elite national recruits.

You aren't winning a title running a straight laced program I'm sorry but this admin and the coaches they hire will never let us do things the way they need to be done.

All of the above has happened under Golden except the sliding scale (that we know of) Bash Golden if you want but you facts are wrong. We just built the Schwartz Center. We are raising $7 million for facility upgrades. Golden brought in a strength program. Golden brought in a nutritionist.

This in its entirety.
