Two Years Ago

Things can turn around quickly. A special player can make all the difference. We saw that on display this season. Hopefully, we have just that kind of player on the team or coming now and we can put enough around him--on the field and the sidelines--to make it happen.

Comparison doesn't work. 2011 Florida State allowed only 4.16 yards per play, third in the nation behind the two teams that played for the national title, Alabama and LSU.

This site wasn't around yet, as far as I know, but I mentioned that 4.16 stat on more than one Canes forum. It was ominous evidence that Florida State was legitimate and likely to remain that way. They underachieved by losing 4 games, and frankly by playing a tight game against Miami, which I attended at Tallahassee. We actually dominated the majority of that first half other than special teams ***** ups.

Michigan State is the only other team that has finished in the top 5 in defensive yards per play for the past three seasons. Alabama and LSU really fell off this year. I rooted for Stanford in the Rose Bowl but Michigan State was justly rewarded for their emphasis in that area. I could watch Stanford play Michigan State every week all year and be happy.

Love Kaaya but he is no where near Winston. Won't put up those numbers as a redshirt freshman. I think by his Junior year he can be special but it will take time.

I know what you're doing there Ariz by stating the importance of a franchise changing QB, but unfortunately we still have Dorito..

'99 Canes went 9-4....

The '99 Canes also had:

- improvement as the year progressed
- young talent starting to emerge everywhere, including a young RS Fr QB named Ken Dorsey
- I believe they won 4 straight at the end of the year...including the Gator Bowl

This team stumbled at the end, and that's not including the raping at the hands of Louisville.

Auburn went 3-9 in 2012 to title game in 13.

Some of you need to calm down

They also got rid of the entire previous staff, hired an offensive innovator and an aggressive DC.

You people here are too calm.

There is NOTHING that has occurred in the last 3 years here that would lead you to believe that the staff has more than 8-10 wins scheme/talent wise.

Some just can't help but be pessimistic and all doomsday about the program but what's the point of rooting for a team if you can't even see the potential? If Kaaya stays and Golden gets his players healthy and in place this team will be awesome in a couple of years.

And FSU will go back to a 2-3 loss team once Winston moves on. I stick by my theory that Jimbo is an above average coach but not great. He should have cashed in on his Winston lottery ticket and moved to Texas IMO.

Said it before and got clowned and I'll say it again, this kid has Peyton Manning characteristics. Best QB prospect we've had in over a decade....but better. Not saying he's Peyton but with collegiate coaching, wow.

FSU also invested money, lots of it, on their program. They completely changed their strength program, brought in a full time nutritionist, and use a sliding scale that allowed them to take would be Canes.

Kids who can't get in here, but can get into FSU/LSU/AU/LOU will naturally view Miami as an elitist school. Pete, you yourself said that's how we are often viewed. FSU started organizing its boosters and they played SEC ball in the recruiting game. They were pulling top 3 classes despite **** records and were beating Bama and UT and USC for elite national recruits.

You aren't winning a title running a straight laced program I'm sorry but this admin and the coaches they hire will never let us do things the way they need to be done.

This is way it is. If we want to compete, we must play with SEC. Sliding scale admissions and SEC rules recruiting ($$$). Without this, we will NEVER be able to win a MNC. SEC boosters make a huge difference. Don't be naive... this is a BIG money game and this game revolves around money.

It was SAD to see all the one time Miami commits and South Florida boys playing on both FSU and Auburn squads.

I'm not sure if he's as cerebral as Peyton, but he certainly runs like him.

Isn't this upcoming senior class Golden's kids?

What have you seen from them (talent wise) that indicates a massive jump in potential?

Also, the schemes are not built for the talent down here. The DC is still here and regardless of what Golden says in a press conference, this is the same scheme in principle since he started.

Ponder, Manuel, and now Winston.

He obviously has a skill for identifying and tailoring his scheme to his talent.

Winston will be his best QB, but he's coached 5-6 going back to LSU that have been good to great college QB's

Golden kids put together at the last minute.
