We will see man I’d be shocked if he some how turned it around coaching wise
I won't...that is a bad *** staff that he has out there.

Uh he recruited a no body recruit by the name of Antonio Brown. Unfortunately, Brown and FIU didn’t workout and he withdrew from the university during the summer of 07. The Mario replaced him with another nobody recruit by the name of TY Hilton. The guy is a beast as a recruiter and gets unknown players that ball. It’s not always the 4&5 star recruits. It’s also the less heralded studs that they pull in.
Jimbo pulled in 5 stars every year only to see his record get worse. Saban brings in that less herald recruit every now and then and he competes.

But its still Mario coaching. They will be 4th or 5th in that conference then what....at the end of the day after they see all the bells and whistles..not much kids wanna play in Oregon. And he will definatrely need the talent advantage to coach with those guys in the pac 10. This is the recruiting bump year..check back in another class.
Most definitely I respect your opinion & maybe it’s the theme of this board but I don’t subscribe to that belief Mario sucks as a coach.

Oh no... Don’t get me wrong. They were well know. Especially TY. I think RS even recruited him but there were a few things that working in their favor. I don’t know if it was grades or just too many wideouts coming in but he ended up at FIU. But still man that was a good pick up. Antonio Brown was too. Those are some elite prospects.T..Y. Hilton tore up dade county football his sr year and was known since optomist ball. Antonio Brown was also a good player. Both guys only issues were size at the time..Hilton's only issue is where he played high school.
Mario didnt really unearth them...they were known in the county and he did what a coach at fiu should do which is offer the local kids that arent offered by the big school.
That being said he is an elite recruiter in my opinion. That's his niche.
What is he good at coaching wise?. As an ol coach he actually is avg to below avg...so what is he good at except ...recruiting. He use to be a mess on the sidelines at FIU...and Stoutland was a better ol coach in my opinion at Bama and here.
But it mayyyy work at Oregon where you need a recruiter to get guys out there...But you also need to be innovative on offense or defense to actually win there imo. We shall see in 2 years.

You might be the first person I’ve ever came across that thinks Mario isn’t a good coach. He coached OL & TE’s pretty **** good for us imho. I mean I don’t know Nick Saban to ever hire a ****** coach in an on-field capacity.
FIU was abysmal..what he was able to accomplish was nothing short of a miracle.
He’s also a helluva recruiter. If I remember correctly, he turned down an NFL job to continue coaching TE’s at Miami.
Theres more people on the board that feel the same. I mean he got fired from fiu.
The bolded he does when he needs a recruiter and an IN....in south florida. Which is what he got with Cristobal.
Hes an avg coach at best...again owned by whomever coached at fau at the same time
I still can't believe a player like Eaford isn't going SEC.
Yea I remember it was between WVU and FIU. He would of killed it with Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Noel... Anyway it worked out for him. I liked Pimp as well. Too bad he didn’t stay focus on playing ball. That 08 class maxed out as sophomores. They should of gotten better. Jacory and the rest of that crew.We took Pimp Collier over him. He really was suppose to go out of state but had a kid at the time so stayed home and went to fiu.
Bro he got fired from FIU by a clown in Pete Garcia...Pete ended up firing the guy he replaced Mario with. FIU was 0-12 the year before he took over.
He was also coach of the year for that conference & I believe led FIU to its first conference championship ever & to a bowl game.
There’s nothing I’ve seen that even makes him an average coach. I consider him an elite coach... He was the assistant HC at Bama as well as being an OL coach. He’s produced first rounders here at TE & at Bama the OL. Produced nfl players at FIU.
I don’t know what more he has to do.
I don’t know about elite... I think from game planning and scheming, he’s average. But he has potential to be a great HC from a leadership standpoint. Pete Garcia was a horrible AD. The FIU athletic department was pretty toxic in general. I feel sorry for whomever was a HC under him.
