Turnover Chain Cristobal Era

A lot of us are sick and tired of the turnover chain, and I totally understand why. It's a gimmick, it's a symbol of the Diaz era, and dear God why do they ALWAYS gotta pull it out, even when we are down by 3 scores. I'm in agreement with all of this.

That said, the turnover chain, back in it's heyday, was a force to be reckoned with. It could energize the team, help shift momentum completely in our favor, and demoralize opponents. There's a reason a bunch of teams copied the concept around the country, and I believe even some NFL players have experimented with it.

So why not do this: the chain only comes out when Coach Cristobal says it comes out. Like a mid-game (or post-game) helmet sticker but way better. It would obviously have to be a potentially game changing play on defense (like when Bandy took it to the house against ND; you knew the game was over at they point). Mario obviously ain't going to pull it out if we are getting blown out or winning but playing against the FAMUs of the world. And the players would have an added incentive to make the big play.

Thoughts?
No one will or should give a sh*t about sideline jewelry or posing if we're playing competent football.

Mixed emotions. I’m all for having fun. That’s the main reason we played the game. Lots of other teams have tried to copy it and failed miserably- think backpack. While getting your *** kicked is not the time to pull out the chain.

Being old school, I revert back to the old saying “Act like you’ve been there before.”

I think it needs to only come out during certain moments. It should be limited. If we are getting killed or the game is very close keep it locked up. But if we are blowing a team out then it can come out and hype the players and fans up. But I am also ok with getting rid of it entirely.

Well, let Mario decide. I can’t wait until we’re all on the message board and there’s a play and half the board is like, break out the chain, and Mario doesn’t do it, and then there’s another play and he does, but half the board thinks it’s bs because he shouldn’t be worried about some stoopid chain. Good times….

Not only would I keep the chain but I would create a video wall in the hecht center with a new statistical category called ‘CHAINS’ to show recruits commemorating the top 10 chain achievers of the chain era on it.

As soon as they come in they can see the wall and you can pitch to them “hey playa, you can get more chains than that, you can be on top of this wall.” Why would you give up such an easy marketing tool. BTW, it was created by Rumph, not Manny.

we would have to be more restrictive of its use if it's kept, but I always wondered why we never considered helmet stickers. Serves the same purpose, can be given out as the coaches deem necessary, not embarrassing to reward big plays publicly when we're losing.

Nobody laughed at it in 2017 when we were 10-0. Nobody laughs at Alabama's belt. If you're going to have it, you have to back it up on the field, otherwise it's just a participation trophy.
^This.

Somebody please post the video of Hitler losing his mind over the turnover chain. That was the high water mark of the deal.

I forgot which coach did it but we did have helmet stickers for a short period of time. Sounds like a Golden thing to do, if I had to guess.

That thing was always a bs gimmick, emblematic of lousy coaching and the opposite of what any football team, Canes included, should look like and be. Football, it's said, i the ultimate team game. It's not a me game. If this is to work, we need to get back to the Howard/Jimmy days. You go, Mario!

It was fine for a one or 2 year thing. Like most things, it played itself out. Time to move on.

Mario will have a talk with the team during the off season. If the team wants what you suggest, then that’s what we will see. I know Mario dropped Willie’s turnover chain like a bad habit.

No. Biggest symbol of the style w/o substance era that's defined us for 15+ years.
Get rid of it.

Lets keep it in the box until a big game. If we get to the ACCCG, pull it out then and run with it from there. Make it a surprise to the public. That will get everybody going

Here’s a idea… AFTER A WIN ! Award it to the player of the Game! (Just can’t take it home ) lol
☝️ This.

Make it like the 3 stars of the game announcement after hockey games or a public awarding of a game ball. Just do it with the Turnover Chain instead. I know Miami has their own video crew at the games. Have Mario announce it on camera and the player wears it to the locker room. It is extra incentive to win and you get recognition for a game well-played.
