Trying not to be overconfident...

Against a good legit team I shall predict a loss until this team shows me with results that they can beat a good team/program. I cant see us winning this game with this D.

An early big play would be huge. I truly believe that this team has to prove to themselves that they can play with a team like Florida. It has been a very long time since we have shown that we belong with the big boys. If we get a good opening return from Duke and move the ball on O for a score, even a FG, will help prove to our guys that we belong on the field with these guys or conversely if we kickoff, great kick coverage and then a 3 and out on their part would be a huge confidence builder.

Don't be silly, only Canes improve! LOL

Some folks in this thread forget the Gates won 11 games last year while UM won???????? Yipee, UM got 19 starters back from a squad that was HISTORICALLY BAD!!!!!

UM's offense has not looked good against even a half way decent defense in years. In fact, its been putrid. And UM's D, even if radically improved, is not going to dominate anyone. ND did not throw a pass 2nd half last year and rang up 250+ yards, in a half. We got Green, a band-aid named Kamalu; that is no UM D-Line. UM has no tested, quality depth ANYWHERE on D and trots out Kacy Rogers and Highsmith as backups.

UM O vs. quality D with a very good line and a good secondary? Not good.
UM D vs. quality running game with mobile QB? Not good.

Overconfident? UM's O-line and D-line best show up and show up big. And the next time they both show up for one game will be the first time in years.

What if the light went off for Driskell over the break?

ZACTLY.

UM has shown nothing to indicate they are prepared to beat a quality team. ****, UM can't beat Virginia.

Watching the **** practice videos they looked physical, thicker and slower compared to us in our practice videos. So if we can grind the whole game with em, & the humidity takes it's toll enough we can take it in the 4th. Yeah, I'd rather curb stomp them, but I'm expecting a day long siege type game.

****. That's a sobering post. This is the game where Al has to prove himself. He has to out coach UF for us to have a chance. The OL has to bear the load this game. They have to straight play out of their minds. We keep hearing how good/great they are... Yet when we play anyone with a pulse, they get their collective **** pushed in... Smdh...

We can win this game, but anybody predicting any sort of notion of domination is crazy. Their DL could actually end up being better than last year, and hopefully Powell continues to be injury prone because his speed rusher as the stand up edge rusher is nasty. Our OL will need to step tremendously here, something they failed to do against both ND and FSU. We looked good against them in passing situations but looked pathetic, yes pathetic is the right word, in run blocking. We need to run block because if we can't do this and let Easly, Powell and Fowler just pin their ears back and rush up field every play, it might get ugly. Their next strength is their secondary which which might be their best strength. Who steps up for us? Once again I reference FSU last year shutting our guys down and Morris making all the wrong reads in panic. This should improve obviously but how much? The weakness they have are their LBs, and Louisville exposed that last year and we need to use our TEs and Duke in the passing game. Get them confused and make them think twice about rushing 5. This will involve a dink and dunk passing game and some sort of a push in the running game. Get all that going and they start to creep up a safety or a nickel back to help more with coverage and then we start to work down field a bit.

On defense our only saving grace is the fact that it appears they are having issues on the OL. Last year they slammed it down FSUs throat with all that talent that they had. Different year but if this is a repeat performance this will end up just like the 2nd half against ND last year. Our secondary has the talent to lock their guys down but I don't think it will come down to that.

I'm just not as confident about this game as many of you are, at least it is early and we are at home. Morris makes or breaks a big pay check that day. Either he shows up and is the QB many on here foresee or the guy from last year who struggled mightily with his footwork and touch in intermediate and short passing situations. The long ball is not gonna be as easily available here as say playing NC State. I expect a huge game from Duke but will it be enough?

Our linebackers dropping into a zone coverage with their back to a running QB has me worried. Driskell is going to have open running lanes all day.

/this despite knowing he can't throw for ****

Florida's offensive line will be a strength for them. We need to win that battle in the trenches and improve on our 116th ranked rush defense.

Everybody thinks last year's defense was bad. It was probably worse than that.
This defense is different. You can actually see serious changes.
Somebody laughed that I believe only the Canes have improved.
I'm sure many teams have gotten better. The Gators aren't one of them. From the looks of it, Alabama didn't either.
Again, this is all my opinion, but you should know I don't fall for hype. I am a homer. Of that there is no doubt.

I'm a little disappointed that not one of these gators trolling our site took me up with my bet.
I expected at least 10 PM's for the wager.
Might be a good sign. When money is on the line, they don't feel that confident.

I honestly don't think game will be close. Ryan Williams will be commanding the second string by the 4th for a run up the score TD to appease voters

This is our "we back" game and Golden and Co. coming out party

I think our O will be very good. I think their D will be very good.
I think our D will be OK. I think their O will be OK.

I feel like our team is primed to take the next step. Upward trajectory hunger, homefield, and Duke will be enough to win it. I hope, anyway. Blowout speculation is unfounded.

i agree with this. both teams strength will go up against each other and both teams weaknesses will go up against each other. the game will come down to the strong units on each side being able to neautralize to other to some degree.

it does baffle me though how some expect miami's defense to be tremendously improved but seem to write off the fact that the same could be true of uf's offense. we were on our 3rd offensive coordinator in 3 years and starting a true sophomore qb with lots of injuries up front. this will be the first time since 09' we've had the same offensive coordinator for consecutive years which should lend itself to improvement, should.

killa,

What are they saying about Trey Burton? Will he be a jack of all trades still, or is he a receiver full-time now?

the same, jack of all trades master of none. pease is incorporating him some in a flex te position as well as a wildcat qb and a fullback out of the backfield. i am interested to see how they use their pieces this year. pease was known for his creativity at boise and we saw some of it last year in a few games, in his second year hopefully the playbook will be expanded.
