I’m very confident that our offense is going to put up a lot of points and yards in this game. The key for me on defense in this game, and all year really, is our front seven and edge rushers being able to put immense pressure on their QB and not giving him time while also forcing some turnovers. If we can do this, our secondary doesn’t need to be elite or all-world, but just “solid.” I could see opposing offenses trying to test our DB’s all season, but if the QB is constantly under pressure it becomes a moot point.
Miami 35
Florida 21
Our IDL needs to be able to stop the run to get them behind schedule. If Mertz has to throw, then the next key is that back 7 needs to stop the horizontal and slant routes, and he's done. The real heroes of this game could be our LBs who will be dramatically improved in pass pro this season IMO. So much more speed and agility than past LBs.
Mertz can't make throws without setting, and I agree that our pass rush will get to him before he sets for longer throws, even for shorter ones whenever he's scrambling. I doubt he has a lot of forced turnovers, but he'll throw the ball away for a lot of turnovers-on-downs. Or he'll try to be a hero and get himself hurt like he did vs. Arkansas last year.
I'I do think we get to 35. I'm not predicting their score until I see how our defense gels during August camp. A lot rides on those DTs and our new Safeties.
