The most hyped three star ever.

Do you think he was a 3 star because of 3 star talent, or because recruiting sites basically couldn't care less, as they all assumed he was going to be an academic casualty?

I'm thinking the latter.

I really cant agree with your logic. It didn't stop them from giving TV a 4* rating, or Derrick Griffin.. There have been TONS of highly rated guys not make it because of grades and it never stopped the sites from giving them a ranking. I was always under the impression it was more because he did not play in a bunch of camps and 7v7 tourneys... But maybe I was thinking someone else.....

Recruiting sites base their rankings on potential. They all want to be able to say 4 years later at the NFL Draft, "look how accurate we are."

Chad Thomas is the perfect example. He has unlimited potential. He could be the next Jason Pierre Paul, but did he have the stats of a 5 star defensive end his senior season?
No, he didn't.

Personally, I could care less about recruiting rankings.
I believe in the eyeball test.
Is the prospect the best player on the field? Does he dominate? Is he playing at his plateau, or is his best football still years off?

Teams keyed in on Chad. I believe he still reached double digit sacks this year and was all Dade first team. Chads junior year I believe he had almost 20 sacks in Dade county. Lot of teams keyed in on him more his senior year. He still blew everything up at the all star game. He is a big reason why Jackson went off last year for Booker T, kept the pressure off him.

As for Gray. Offensive specialist. He has the potential that Jason Geathers had. Geathers never lived up to the hype, but I sure do
hope Gray does. I'm positive he will, Carol City kids work hard and they usually pan out very well for us. RB/WR/Returns/..... Just get him the ball he's dangerous.

Look for Trayone Gray to come in as more of a RB. Will be used in a variety of ways, but RB primarily #Canes

ESPN had Gray as a 4*, so somebody saw something lol. But at that end of the day stars don't matter, it's what you do on the field.

\jk. KR. punt returns should still be done by Coley.

no more Dorsett on returns.

exactly, lets not forget about stacy Coley. I’ve seen Gray’s tape but let’s not under value how amazing coley is when gets ahold of the football

Gray has an unusual combination of speed power anticipation and quickness.A Lot of people that follow S Fla high school football feel that he would have been the best RB in S Fla if he was used in that position.

Devin Hester comes to mind although not as fast when I think of someone to compare him to as far as he just needs the ball in his hands and position is just titled X. So I could see him lining up everywhere from QB to RB to WR to H-Back, and most definitely returner. With his size if he could work on that speed could also remind you of a Julio Jones at the wide out position.

Hester is a horrible comparison.
