Transfer Season 2018

Elijah Moore wasted his junior season at STA. Senior season, I guess he made the best of it. But he did absolutely nothing bc he was behind Mike Harley. He woulda balled out at Western as a junior and then he may not have even needed to transfer to STA for his senior season. Western probably had as good or maybe a slightly better offense than STA last season anyways.

Elijah Moore's transfer to STA never made sense as he caught 90 passes as a sophomore and had a UM offer. He could have stayed at Western and probably gone anywhere he wanted.

These private school coaches offer the world to these transfer kids and then often leave them high and dry. There's tons of kids who were starters at their home schools only to transfer to STA or Heritage just to sit the bench. Yeah, they might not be as good as the kid starting but if you've got no game tape, you're not getting any type of scholarship offer. If you try to transfer back to your neighborhood school, you get handed thr bill for your private school tuition.

yea, this isn't true. look at the NSD list for STA every year. The full one, not just the FBS list. They send 20+ kids to college on full scholarships every year. You see guys who only played in blowouts signing with FCS/DII/DIII schools or whatever just because STA has the clout to call a coach up and say this kid is a good fit for your program.

Except it happens all the time. There's plenty of kids who are buried on the depth chart at STA and Heritage who would have actually played at their home school. I don't care what kind of sympathy offer you think Harriot or Surtain is going to get for these kids, there's no substitute for actual playing time when it comes to schools offering scholarships. I'm not talking about the big names who get invited to camps and have other opportunities to show their skills. I'm talking about the lower level FBS or FCS kids. It's a matter of showing your skill on the field to scouts or hoping your head coach can get you a scholarship despite you not seeing the field much all season. Ask anyone who coaches or works in an athletic department in Broward.

STA has a player who had less than 10 career catches as a WR who is going to Army. Show me another school where that happens. College coaches love Coach Smith and Coach Harriott and will listen to them.

That same kid would've had a much more productive career at another school and then possibly obtained an offer from a more prestigious school.

He didn't do anything his Senior year either. STA's offense is embarrassingly bad. He would've been catching passes from the Broward County Offensive Player of the Year if he stayed at Western and they maybe go to states.

Western's been getting more transfers lately. Filled that QB position with the graduation of Harrison Story. The Rivera kid just picked up an offer from Pitt.

That coach was always able to get some talented kids in when he was at NE, guys like Amod Ned etc

Now I won’t go into how badly he overhyped his players there

*cough* Bo Williams *cough*

LOL

Coach Rak just loves his players man. He always talks them up. He talks up his coaches too. He's a good guy though.

As a Western alum I'm proud of what Rak has done for the program. Since I graduated in 06, they had a flash here or there, but the transfers out and kids who never even played at Western who were zoned there killed everything. I was at every playoff game last season.

I don't mind players transferring to STA/AH if their home school is a dumpster fire. Makes sense. And seeing as there's ALWAYS scouts at that school it may lead to some new exposure.

But a lot of times that's not the case. My buddies at WHS just had the best season in school history and still lost their Offensive Tackle who has ACC offers.
When they lost Elijah Moore, Miami's coaches were actually at WHS looking for him to extend an offer. His head coach went to go pull him out of class at which time he was notified that Moore had already transferred. Kid left without saying anything to anybody, meanwhile Miami was on WHS's campus looking for him. Goes to STA and did nothing his Junior and Senior seasons.
When we lost Wade Freebeck we had just gone 7-3 with a team full of 10th and 11th graders. We were on the rise. Daddy still took him to STA where he looked awful and received ZERO new offers. Matter of fact, his best offer (UF) came with us.

Power-5 level kids don't benefit from transferring IMO. I think transferring to STA/AH probably helps kids who are on the fringe. It gives them that little extra exposure they need to receive an offer from Illinois State or Akron. If a kid is Power-5 level then it doesn't really matter where he plays IMO.

STA is like the Bama of high school football. A lot of times when kids down here have the opportunity to go there they simply can't turn it down. It's become more of an attention thing now. It's like being married to a 5/6 when a 9/10 is throwing the monkey at you. It's really hard to say no.

This generation is always seeking validation and nothing makes them feel more validated than to tweet "blessed to be transferring to Saint Thomas Aquinas."

No doubt about that

With the rise in the popularity of the AAU(7 on 7) stuff and all these camps it gives the kids an even better chance of exposure now too as opposed to the old days

St thomas dropping bags out here...

Ruddock might be a Davie boy, but he was never going to Western either.

Read my response to that.

Davie kids stay getting plucked. Went to western ‘02-‘06 was different then but Davie and Cooper City kids got plucked to St. Thomas all the time.

Rak is a good dude. He was an assistant at Cooper City in 90's when I was in school. He was a young kid then, straight out of college in his first high school assistant coaching gig. I'm glad he's found success at Western.

Poor judgement on your part.
