Transfer Portal (U Only)

Well now that are window closed and I don’t feel like I’m gonna jinx it -the staff did an excellent job retaining talent.

not bad when our two biggest losses are Horton (immediately replaced with Daniels) and Allen -likely RB3 this coming year

Staff has work to do at slot,db,lb, and obviously QB

But feels good to not have major talent leaving like most programs have had happen the last few weeks

Don't we have to wait till midnight Saturday Sunday??? (I guess in every time zone in the world to be safe)? 5 full days from midnight of the 28th was last midnight + 48 hrs.

Hopefully there's no other big names. Youd think if a big name submitted somethingz the insiders would probably leak something by now right? If no other big names go, then the staff definitely did a good job. I was pretty worried about Scott, Lightfoot, and Carr. Never can tell with young out of state kids that dont play much year 1. We've got to try and keep some of this young talent and coach them up.

yeah , lightfoot, Samson, damari brown, one of the younger WR's - I wouldn't have been surprised if any of them had bounced

Is it official now that no new names will go in from Miami roster until the Spring portal opens up?
 
I have us sitting at 77 scholarship players right now, meaning we have at least 8 slots available and obviously rosters and scholarships are going to 105 anyway.

I have us needing at least 6 and as many as 14 additional players.

Need: 1 QB, 1 Center, 1 TE, 1 WR, and 2 DBs (At least 1 more safety and 1 CB)

Additional: 1 RB, 1 Guard, 1 Tackle, 1 DT, 1 LB, 1 true Nickel, 1 additional Safety, and 1 additional CB.

We have 4 scholarship Safeties on the roster right now, plus Taylor's son. At CB, we return only OJ, Damari, Mack and Richard (who won't be healthy until fall camp at the absolute earliest), added 2 in the portal (1 has never finished a season healthy in college and isn't healthy right now), and have 2 freshmen (3 if Fitzgerald plays CB).

Disgusting and terrifying defensive depth across the board and no one is in any sort of rush to address it. We should have 8-10 portal commits right now if we we had the slightest amount of self-awareness.

Assuming no more guys transfer out and Mesidor isn't going pro, DL doesn't look too bad to me. Would like another DT for sure. But we MUST find one serviceable high speed pass rusher out of Bryant, Rudolph, McConathy and Lightfoot, so I feel like DE is going to be fine. Need a proven ILB to compliment Popo, so that's 2 guys. Totally doable. ... DB on the other hand, still a lot more work to go.

Would feel a lot better if Lucas was in the portal and on his way to Miami. Hopefully that gets resolved soon

It really is alarming looking at the secondary. Even if we land Branch bros + land that 3rd corner (still not sure Lucas plays CB or S) it looks like one of our freshman corners gonna have to be ready to play rotational reps immediately. My best guess is Antoine + Ewald will get in the mix while Fitzgerald is relegated to just special teams year 1 and Amari Wallace is fully redshirted. But we will be a couple injuries away from disaster at all times.

Seems like an annual issue for the Canes at 1 or 2 positions every season lol

So just fix it now. There are plenty of options at DB. Mario can’t wait for a new DC or DB coach, he should just assign this issue to that new recruiting coordinator as first order of business this morning.

Definitely. Kid had elite production (no exaggeration) in high school. I just have higher expectations of the other two given their athleticism. If he is better so be it.

Also Blount will still be a hybrid can be a factor in a 3-4 type scheme even though he’s still only 17.
