Tracy would perform a lot better if we had him in press coverage. In hs and in 7v7 tourneys, he was always a great press corner. He also played some safety in a few of the 7v7's. Not worried about the 40. Janoris Jenkins ran a 4.6 as a freshman, and he looked good against top-level competition.
I agree, but I'm pretty sure with the young team the coaches have, they want to make sure all the guys are playing with the system. He's too young to be allowed to freelance, outside of the defensive call.
If you allow it for one player, it's hard to avoid freelancing from the whole team, then everything gets out of control.
I don't think anyone should freelance in any system, as it'll turn into a junk/non gap-sound defense. If the d-coordinator were to call press cover 1 or 2 man, then you would get more production out of players like Tracy. In the 2012 recruiting
class, deon bush is the only kid that came from a HS that used a heavy zone scheme. The other players are just not used to playing in that type of scheme.
