Top 25 Defense At The LEAST or GTFOH

I'd rather win the coastal.

I'd rather win 10 games.

I'd rather beat FSU.

I'm with you on winning 10 games and winning the Coastal, but having a defense that is ranked around 80 puts the team in a predicament of winning only 7 or 8 games, with no ACCCG appearance, which is safe to assume.

The defense or offense could be dead last (obviously hard to win with that) and it wouldn't matter if we were winning MORE GAMES. I want to win games so do it anyway you can.

Top 25 lmao, let's be realistic and say top 50. And have a respectable percentage of getting off the field on 3rd downs.

I don't get the fascination with defensive rankings? Had Miami not lost Duke, Dorsette and Coley last year they would have likely won 10+ games and the Coastal outright and the defensive was...well, you know.

Injuries are unique to Miami. When did we lose Coley out of curiosity?

Gonna be a rough ride this year kiddies.

Unless those new DT's come in and absolutely DESTROY the trenches, I don't know if our offense can score enough points without RW at QB to overcome our defense.

Lot's of question marks and unproven guys on this defense, albeit loads of on paper potential/talent. I expect big improvement, but I would not expect a top 25 defense until next year.

That's exactly the problem though. That was a pretty soft schedule. As soon as we run into some real teams, we would get exposed. We will never be back to what we expect until we can keep up with really good teams, not struggling every week against teams like WF and UNC.

I think we should expect a slight improvement in the stats just based on how our offense is probably gunna change. Young qbs, we're gunna run it more and improve that time of possession. Add the overall talent improvement and I think we see the biggest jump yet.

You're right, losing three dynamic play makers from your offense means nothing.

And there's the rub.

Set ridiculous standards and then shout everyone should be fired when they are not met. This is how the mope squad continues on - self-fulfilling prophecies.

I do think "Top 50" is possible, if unlikely.

Why is this forum OBSESSED with statistics? How about top 25 TEAM or gtfoh.

Because even with Olsen at QB, we are good enough to be a top 25 team right now. The only question is how bad will our defense get gashed week in and week out. But I say we stay on par with last year's defense. Somewhere between 70-80.
I could not disagree more with this and I am in no way a blind homer or a Golden/Donofrio slurper. While I am well aware of the deficiencies we have on D(interior DL), we have upgraded everywhere else in terms of experience, depth and talent. In that respect, this years defensive 2deep is significantly better than what we trotted out there last year. Even our weak spot at DT/NT has improved in terms of depth and talent. We are however very young and inexperienced there.

While I don't expect to be top 25 in total D, it wouldn't shock me either. The bottom line is that I expect to see substantial improvement in the way our scheme is executed. For us to finish the year ranked in the 70-80 range would be much more shocking to me and would and should result in Golden/Donofrio's immediate termination.

I know I'm captain obvious with the post, but this is finally the year where D'Nofrio has absolutely no where to point his finger if Miami is not ranked AT LEAST 25 in total defense. This is not 2012 where there was a youth movement and lack of depth of defense. This is not 2013 where you had several guys on defense who had no business starting, but were only starting because they were seniors. Rather, this year features too many talented pass rushers from AQM, McCord, a young Trent Harris, Darrion Owens and Chad Thomas. Also much better athleticism and speed at LB with the likes of Perryman, Figs, Grace, Kirby and a young Juwon Young along with several of the DE's able to stand up as well. As for the DB's, I can honestly say, there is not a college football program out there that OVERALL has more talent at the positions than Miami does right now and I dare somebody to break it down for me if they disagree. The key for Miami is steady DT play from the likes of Pierre, Moore, Wyche, Hamilton, Big Hert etc. and every other position can truly dominate (I know, captian obvious). Right now, Miami has thee most talent on defense in the entire ACC Coastal, even more than Bud Foster's Lunch Pail Kids. There's no way Miami finishes behind anyone in the Coastal in total defense. Where do you guys think Miami will finish in total defense?

Where do I think we finish, or where do I think we should finish?

Where I think we actually finish is around the 60's.

Where we should finish is top 30.

Ridiculous standards?

Before Golden, our worst defense dating back to 1999 was ranked 34th. That includes the Coker and Shannon years. Shannon's worst defense as either DC or HC was ranked 33rd.

Since Golden has been here his best defense was ranked 45th. Tell me again how asking for a top 25 defense at Miami in a coach's 4th year is setting ridiculous standards.
