Tom Lemming the Originator Of the Star System On Lightfoot

And there is always time for him to get bumped to a 5. It does happen…

I’m just happy he committted, took a leap of faith with JT and didn’t go to Ohio State which is IMO the easy route now we have to hang on to him

I am good with Cristobal getting players that are clearly 5 stars but ranked as 4 stars. Keeps the price tag and interest down.

I think Lemming got too far out there with trying to be a personality, and he became annoying. Dude tried to cash in on being a pioneer and it wasn't great.

But as a straight-up evaluator, when he puts in the work, he is consistent. He's not favoring one fan-base by giving all their guys 4 and 5 stars.
Or downgrade a player, because of where the player committed.

Not that today’s recruiting sites ever do that ;)

I keep telling everyone on here that the reason the recruiting websites exist are for the benefit of the frontrunners.
They have essentially become an asset to those schools and are turning into a sort of gatekeeper and set the narrative for what a player is or can become regardless of tape and regardless of what any coach or scout says.

In other words: if the sites don’t list him as a 5 star then no way he’s a five star.
Now compare that with every single recruit posting their star rating on all their social media platforms and also posting when they get an extra star.

“Blessed to be a 4 star”

Think about a player wanting that 5th star and knowing very well that he’s a 5 star (Ruben Bain) but knowing you’re not gonna get it unless you commit to a frontrunner program.

Or being a 5 star for like a year (Wayne), and knowing that you might get dropped because you pick UM.

The truth doesn’t matter when the narrative is set by a rating service.

I 100% agree. It matters to kids and therefore has the ability to impact their decision. I do think NIL changes things a little though. At the end of the day if we win and start pumping guys into the league it won’t matter much. Problem is we need the dudes to get to that point.

So we likely need to overpay for some big time guys like Stewart today. That will pay dividends 2-3 years from now after piling up 10+ win seasons and multiple first round picks.

I don’t think the term “overpay” applies to certain players. It all depends on where you’re at and what you need.
Each year there are a few. But yes, most schools rk are overpaying for a lot of players.

All I needed was to see his Hudl which was posted here ( didnt dare watch until he committed) to see that this kid is an easy five star in his sleep.
@DMoney alluded to the way coaches view him as one of those "6 or 7" first round whales.

Tom Lemming the origninator of the star classification system had some thoughts on twitter when he called Lightfoot a 5 star and was challanged by a twitter user:

The “Brian” guy is a Michigan fan and the 2nd guy “Shane” is of all fans a GATOR fan🤣🤣🤣

Tom: Dude is a 5*.
Internet loons: Nah, not on any services, Tom. He's a 4*.
Tom: I invented star ratings you idiots. And to me, this kid is a 5*. Look at the tape.

Facts are now optional in all rational thinking. Interesting how widespread the phenomenon is.

Considering Tom said he gives out between 40 and 50 5 star ratings a year, it's entirely possible he has the kid ranked the same as the other sites that only give out 30 5 star ratings. a very high 4 star kid on 247 could technically be a 5 star kid on Tom's system.

Anybody with this skillset AND this effort on plays away from him should be a 5 star. Can't imagine this guy not becoming a multi year starter at worst.

The 247 criteria for a 5 star is limited to the amount of first round picks. Which means it’s flawed to begin with.
And they give bonus points if they commit to a highly ranked team because according to them those teams put out more 1st round draft picks. So according to them if a 5 star chooses another team that’s not a frontrunner they drop their rating because it means they have less of a chance of being a first round pick.

The fact that they won’t follow the ratings of the dude that actually invented their system is very telling and goes with what I’ve been saying that they sssuck up to and leak info to the benefit of those programs.

Miami put out 2 first round picks at defensive end recently and neither Bain, Moss, or Wayne were able to either keep their 5 star status or reach it because they chose UM.

That’s not conspiracy, those are their words and Ivins said it on footballville when he was asked why certain players get dropped when they pick certain schools and which players get bumped.

Do you remember a few years ago when a player got rated as a four star because he kept claiming offers from Bama osu and uga? They were all fake including the player.

those conversations highlight the hilarity of social media and how it’s destroyed common sense conversation

Lemming been doing this since before most people were born and he calls the kid a 5 star

Inevitably a couple of Twitter chumps say “derp he’s not a 5 star”

It’s like the people that go to pursue a PhD and accrue a billion hours of research and experience only to have someone on Facebook tell them they’re wrong
These type of people have always been on this planet. Now with social media all these Goofy's merge and are now paid attention too. No one cared before because we just walked by yo *** back then lol. Most people do not have common sense now.

To me this kid is more Cyrus Moss than he is Jayden Wayne. A little light in the ***. And I’m not hearing much buzz on Moss, what’s his deal? Has he been unable to put on weight?

I can't take an evaluator serious when every prospect they review u feel like you got a good player. Then when they play they didn't mean he ran a four flat they meant he ran like he had four flats.

Goes to show the star rating system isn’t perfect or an exact science.

Fans getting bent out of shape around their team signing a 3-star or thinking it’s a loss is laughable given the people coming up with those ratings
