Tired topic I know but does anyone else....

It's not. It's a deliberate contraction of the sport that is designed to restrict the opportunity to compete to only a few. Yet over in the games thread we have post after post advocating that they 1) not allow G5 teams, 2) don't give conference champs the byes, or 3) reduce the number of teams in the playoff. This coming from fans of ACC member Miami. If you want that sort of thing, you're just hoping for the destruction of the sport, not to mention cheering for your own team to be screwed.
One big tell is that the SEC-Big10 are sucking up so much talent. Someone posted that the top twelve teams in the recruiting rankings are all from those two conferences. There is something going on that's not good.

OP, all of that. Short and sweet, I care very little these days. It's like something you loved as a kid and while it's kind of cool, it has nowhere near the same value in your life today. I went from going to 3 to 5 aways games a year since I don't live in S FL to not one in 15 years. It is what it is.

The part that sucks most is that this is something that was an amazing part of growing up and my early adult years. I literally loved thinking of taking a son or daughter one day, experiencing the same things I did with my family, etc. I hope to take the kids one day, but I never dreamed they'd be 14 and 11, with not a single game attended.
My love for all sports has diminished so much the last five years. Which is crazy for anyone that knew me growing up. It was my life. Sports right down to HS is in a horrible spot. That’s what money does to everything. Can’t blame the kids for being selfish and trying to get paid when the coaches nowadays could care less about them. It’s no longer about growing kids into a responsible man with life lessons. Recently I heard a coach on speaker phone trying to manipulate a kid that works for me that’s a HS football player. Lying his *** off promising money and playing time . It was disgusting to me . It really turned me off more than already was.

The introduction of (NIL) policies and the transfer portal in college athletics has revolutionized the competitive landscape of sports. While this system has been controversial, they address long-standing inequities in college sports, particularly regarding recruitment and resource allocation. The things that come to
Mind is that jt has leveled the playing field, it helps keep up with programs that have illicit recruiting practices ( FSU, Alabama, Ohio State) for decades and has allowed small programs to be more competitive

I think it has helped

I was excited to see JoJo get the touchdown last Saturday. But then I thought today he could easily be lured away in the next few days by an overwhelming NIL package, or in the spring. Hard to keep invested in any one player.

Agreed. Otherwise Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Texas and LSU would have been able to offer enhanced recruiting for decades while programs like Miami would have been hit immediately with sanctions if they offered 1/100th of the bag payouts. It was a rigged system - particularly for Alabama that guaranteed the same teams in the playoffs year after year, decade after decade. It was a boot on the face of 90% of the other programs, forever.

The vast majority of people who “don’t care as much” are still tuning in regularly and/or attending games, even if the game outcomes may not mean as much.

The agents are pimping the players out for a bigger payoff the next season so the agent and the player gain more money. The only way to shutdown the pimping is to allow players to portal, but they can only accept a deal equal to or less than the one they are leaving behind. This will force many players to rethink their position and may not complete the portal. You can't build a championship level team when the roster are turning over every year.

This will just give bag schools more power. UGA uses bags and NIL. You only see one income not the mystery income. The only way to stop this is only allowing one free transfer. After that you need a coach fired or leaving. Also a legit reason like a sick family member. The only other way is contracts or kicking kids in when the new partnership starts with player’s.

I agree that’s is a solution; however, my understanding is limiting one transfer rule is no longer an option due to legal reasons. The NCAA has lost control of the game and we aren’t going back. In the next 3-5 years there will be no more “student athletes” in college football.

Yep. I was going to go on rant about how them getting rid of that prior to NIl. So not only did they open Pandora’s box they opened it up with never ending free agency.

I'm too old a dog to learn new tricks. I stopped watching the NFL about ten years ago because, like Hootie, "The Dolphins make me cry." I was a fan from the beginning after Jim Kiik came and gave our undefeated junior high team a talk.

I played and loved the college game, and like most in So Fl the Dolphins and Canes were always my teams—my parents drove over from Punta Gorda to watch George Myra's teams.

But after these past twenty years, I'm close to tapping out. It's odd saying that after a 10-win season. And man was this offense fun to watch at times. But it's the Ground Hog Day type seasons with a hopeful win (like Texas A&M or Florida) followed by the type losses in the same season we take that are so **** frustrating and hard to understand. Losses against better talent would be one thing, but they aren't. So I view it as coaching, culture, and team leadership—that we had to pay for a one-year player to be the team leader says it all. That's not where your leader is supposed to come from.

The HC I played for in small college ball lost before my class got there and won two conference titles, and we just missed the playoffs (4 teams) with my class, where nine of us started as freshman. He won because he was the first in his conference to recruit a bunch of us from So FL. By the time I graduated, a few other teams started to do that. Then he lost again after we left. But man did we have a culture and team leaders.

They've got to put limitations on the number of transfers per player, how much time between transferring, decrease portal windows, etc. It's out of hand right now.

Do you stop loving them when they enter the portal?

Well, when they transfer that means they no longer wear the U anymore.

🤷‍♂️

Unless it’s an exception like Kirby Freeman, who got a huge U tattooed on his back, which meant that he literally kept wearing the U even after he transferred. So we will always love Kirby Freeman.

One free transfer or a coach leaving in my opinion would make a massive difference
