Tired topic I know but does anyone else....

Another problem there is no "wait until next year" element. When the BCS screwed Miami and gradually put FSU in the championship game I knew next year UM was going to be stout. I couldn't wait for the season to start. That experience is completely gone these days.

I think the BCS produced the greatest era of college football ever.

So much roster turnover year to year.... makes it a lot more difficult to get attached and invested in individual players. Feels like a wild wild west minor league version of the NFL.

I think you are correct. But let's be honest, if they won, we would love them more.

I think the continuity is gone from year to year. There just isn't the same feeling of watching someone grow into the position that there used to me. It is even worse in basketball. I have not watched one second of it this year. With so much roster turnover, I just don't have any connection to the players.

I think the mix of portal and NIL is the worst kind of toxic disaster. I think either one of them could have been absorbed individually. But the mixture of the two brings out the absolute worst feeling of mercenary soldiers. Would have loved to see the players compensated if they were committed to the team. Or could have dealt with defections if it weren't about money. The mix is toxic.

...find themselves caring less and less about the players on the team?

The portal is a cancer on college football. I get it I sound like the guy yelling at kids to stay off his lawn.
I was watching the POP TARTS BOWL at a bar and they were simultaneously showing the '88 Miami/ND bowl game.
I remembered caring about those dudes.
Now I just hate on the coaches for not getting enough out of the players they pay to come to Miami.
Now I think in terms of wasted money instead of wasted talent.

Bleak times.

This **** is a disaster.
Yeah, of course. It's only natural that we aren't going to get attached to the rentals. Honestly, I think only young people (25-30 or younger) will be able to get attached to these players. Soon it will be even worse.

I think it’s just melted into the numbness I have for the program as a whole due to the last 20 years. My wife constantly asks me if I’m OK because I don’t really yell at the tv or show much emotion when watching games. Games in person is a different story cuz the atmosphere dictates, but on the couch at home, just pretty stoic regardless of how it’s going.

This is why it works for college though. Most have rarely cared about the players a ton because they are here for such small time periods. It always ensures the fans stay focused on the school instead of the players. In the pros for example, I tend to follow players more than teams. I have my teams in the pros, but I root for specific players just as much. College, you'll recognize a guy on your team for 1-2 years in most cases before it's the next guy's turn.

Not just the portal, but the current state of NIL as well.

Everyone is a mercenary. Look at what's going on with Quinn Ewers - its insane.

Without changes to the current landscape, I fear it would not bode well for us.

I only care about the White & Hispanic players.

The Black ones make me not wanna watch the sport anymore... Especially when I see how much money they're being paid.

Also helps that Mario didn't land any this cycle.

Michael Richards Yes GIF

Nickel could be elite though

Anyone who says the don't care less about mercenaries is lying.
Well that is true. So is true that we all care about anything U. The question was/is do you care less with what it is today? I will still follow and care, but I feel less vested in the players. It may change tomorrow, but I don’t feel like I used to.

This place drives the recruiting love hate relationship - oversell, Miami feels good here, watch the spinach, if the loafer fits they just commit, etc.

Players are what they are, they are paid, student athletes that put on for our school. Only slightly different than the pros -- you want to see your team and the players on your team excel, but if they don't you discuss it and likely assign some level of blame or fault. I think we should give them a bit more benefit of the doubt than full out pros, and they probably should not take the all out blame when the coaches set them up for failure.

Ultimately the blame falls on the head coach, tons of built in excuses for the current one - and maybe he deserved a slice of grace as an ex-player - but he burned that with 5-7 blowouts, never kneel and his Bros being so ridiculously biased they turned many quickly after all their highlights were debunked with a little bit of research.

Players need to look out for their own. NCAA made this mess. Players gained, but are now seeing some of the negatives.
100%... gotta love watch the spinach 🤣... those watch the finish days were so annoying. Miami stayed getting denied from every big recruit back then

It's amazing how the transfer portal and NIL somewhat neutralized Mario's best quality as a HC which is recruiting. I hope miami and mario can adjust to the changing times and still win big and turn this around. I am still staying somewhat optimistic. What else can we do at this point.

In the future, kids like Restrepo and Arroyo are going to be more and more rare but more and more loved by the fans of the team because of how uncommon they'll be.

The growing SEC-Big 10 dominance is what's eating at me. Increasingly, it doesn't seem like a fair fight anymore...
It's not. It's a deliberate contraction of the sport that is designed to restrict the opportunity to compete to only a few. Yet over in the games thread we have post after post advocating that they 1) not allow G5 teams, 2) don't give conference champs the byes, or 3) reduce the number of teams in the playoff. This coming from fans of ACC member Miami. If you want that sort of thing, you're just hoping for the destruction of the sport, not to mention cheering for your own team to be screwed.

This era sucks .. but it’s here .. the sport has to get rules in place ..kids just can’t keep transferring non stop …. The acc allows 105 kids on rosters now .. how the eff are schools going to afford all this rev sharing and get enough nil money for that number .. I wouldn’t be surprised to see schools play with a lot less than the current 85 moving forward just to contain costs .
