He's up to first team...the team has had some injuries to Gionni Paul and Eddie Johnson...but regardless...it seems the newly named "Terry" Armbrister is going to see some significant snaps this year in some regard.

Any thoughts from the GenPop on what this guy is going to bring to the team this year.

I've always kind of pigeonholed him as a special teams type player, but it is looking like he's stepping up as a potential key contributor.

As an aside, Jimmy Gaines playing the MIKE more opens up a spot on the outside seemingly, or, does the GenPop see Gaines moving back to the outside before fall football is over?

In a perfect world, Armbrister wouldn't play until his Jr. year, and Gaines would play outside exclusively. That said, our LB situation is razor thin right now and I think Golden is trying his best to get everybody ready to play everything at a moment's notice.

I think Paul, Johnson, and Blue would be ahead of Armbrister and Gaines if healthy...

Kid has an amazing highlight video on youtube. Can't post it right now but he was a very big and athletic WR and CB/Safety. Very impressive video. Don't know how he went unnoticed. I always thought he would play safety........but at 225 pounds that is pretty much out the door. Kid is VERY athletic. If he's still as fast as he is on his youtube clip, then he can definately help on the outside. Don't know how well he tackles or hits. But he was a very physical WR and Im sure Corch D and Golden think he can hit if he's penciled in as a starter.

From walk on to starter btw. You have to have talent to do that.

I would rather not see either one of them at LB in any significant role...I guess I'm willing to give TA an unbiased look, but I too thought he would be a special teamer.

pretty sure that I've seen enough of Gaines to know that he is a back up at best.

We've seen Gaines. He is big and fast........but he just messed up too **** much last year. First year on the field so can't really blame the kid.

I've never seen Armbrister so we'll have to wait and see.

I thought Gaines looked slow. maybe it was just poor reaction due to no experience. we'll see, but I was hoping that he would be relegated to the bench by some of the young guys

He was never a walk on. He was a late signee.

He might as well have walked on.

A late signee never does anything. but I stand corrected.

He's been working with the first team for 2 weeks... He is legit, this isn't just a product of injuries

Never say never...even though I did...Ray Lewis.

I thought he'd turn out to be a serviceable S in a few years but when they moved him to LB so quickly I figured it was the end to his 'Canes career because I didn't think there was any way he'd bulk up enough. If he really is 222lbs now he can contribute for sure. He was an aggressive and rangy safety in HS..if he can bring that to the LB position with his natural cover skills he could be a beast.

Looks good. Definitely has the frame to support good weight.

If he's legitimately over 220 lbs, he could surprisingly wreck ****.

Man, if that's true (and I have no reason to doubt your intel, Peter) what a coup for Golden and staff. A late signee that nobody had really heard of with an opportunity to start from Day 1 as a freshman? If Armbrister pans out and is productive over his career here, I think we can safely lay to rest any concerns about Golden's ability to identify and evaluate talent.

Personally, I never had concerns about that. He built up Temple and sent guys to the pros.

My only question: is he a championship-level coach? We'll find out once he's stocked the cupboard.

Coach D deserves credit for this one. There was one scholly left and he hand-picked Armbrister.

Kudos (potentially) to Coach D then! Can't wait to see this kid in action!

I agree...some posters on here thinks he is garbage....not my words a posters.....is the kid all world no...but he is doing well

Tall, athletic and can run are good traits for an OLB, whether he walked on, late-signed or was a 5*, give kid his due.
