Thoughts on the Clark PF

Wasn’t the PF on Campbell very similar. Very tricky tack but I’m sure Mario was ok with them being over physical.

He ran the CB out of bounds with a clean block. Continued to block him for another 5 yards because I don’t think he knew where he was in the field. But he never knocked him to the ground.
Really. There is a 5 yard white stripe that tells you where you are. And you passed by at least 5 players on the sideline. Hated the call but it was correct

I'm not sure how you know that Mario was OK with it. I'm thinking that no coach is okay with a PF.

Funny thing is , on the call, Mario wasnt even mad with Jakai, but went after the ref for the suspect call. Even after that, he turned to Jakai and offered encouragement, not scolding....

Watch this clip and you will see the play and replay, along with coach's reaction to the call... on 2nd review, looks like Feld offered the praise

Bull Fecal call.

I loved it

But it was also dumb

If that’s possible

I mean I love finishing the block. Im sure Mario and Mirabal did too. But when you start to see security guards in your field of vision it might be time to disengage

But don’t ever change, Jakai, never change

For anyone wondering... not word for word but Mario himself pretty much said he didn't even know that's a penalty. He said they teach their OL to finish the block and that's exactly what Clark did. He didn't blame Clark, said Clark did what they teach and now they have to do a better job at teaching our players the rules.

I feel it was the correct call. I know if the situation was reversed I would've been asking for a flag. Saying he didn't know where he was doesn't excuse any play, in particular when you drive on by some guy with a fluorescent yellow vest on. You don't see those guys on the field.
I disagree. You never know what is going to happen in the play. You play to the whistle unless you are tackling a ball carrier. If he had released the block then that player could have feasibly re-entered the field of play and contributed. I think it was a poor call and likely an incorrect interpretation of the rule.

Horrible call, I just saw it now. I was at the game and they didn't replay it. That crew was awful.

With Gattis slow pace and that Crew slowing it down even more, the game became boring.

I mean if it’s a rule, which it is because it often gets called on punts, then it’s the right call.
However, I can see how he maybe didn’t know the rule and didn’t feel like he did anything wrong. I’d be surprised if he gets ridiculed in film for it.

I can see both sides on this one. Stupid penalty, guy wasn’t even looking at him when he dropped the flag. Also what the heck are you doing pushing him that far out of bounds, especially when the play is past you.
Yeah, me too. Effort , great. Situational awareness , bummer.

He was furious about the call.

We had a couple of calls which took points off the board.

1. It was an obvious penalty
2. It doesn't happen often, but there are times when kids do this, and it's rarely called
3. You're coached to block until the whistle blows. I've heard coaches 1000x in my life say something like "Block him into the stands....drive him into the parking lot, etc". So it wasn't a dumb or dirty play, it was an effort play. I will bet my life that in film yesterday, Mirabal praised him and also said try to be a little more aware in the future.

Just not often you literally get to drive a defender into the bench. But if you do, it's definitely a penalty.

Yes he did block him out of bounds, but he never knocked the guy to the ground. Personally i don’t get that one. Wiped a great TD off the board.
It definitely looked like CMC did not like the call, the way I understand it, theyre supposed to disengage when both players are out of bounds. Clark just kept going...really should have been let go...bs
