Thoughts on how South Carolina HC Shane Beamer handled it?

Post: I watched it play out. When Beamer was notified that Nick E would not be participating in the second half, he had a very animated conversation with Nick E on the sidelines, closest to the Carolina end zone and just outside of the coaches box.

After the conversation, he walked over and grabbed his helmet, shook the hands of a handful of teammates on the bench, and was escorted to the locker room by Derrick Moore.

He had another player who tried to renegotiate his NIL during the season, threatening to quit and Beamer told him to kick rocks that day.
I'm not a Beamer fan because I despise VT, but I have to say I respect how he handles this opt-out BS, especially if this Nick E fella did not talk about this with Beamer beforehand.

As far as our situation goes, I'd prefer someone either play in a bowl game or don't play. No two quarters, then bye,

If a player doesn't have it written in his NIL "contract" he's free to do whatever. No hard feelings.

What I didn't like Saturday was Mario's mush-mouthed response to the matter after the game.

That was weak sauce

Play, don't play. Play half, play all. Whatever it is, just don't sound like an idiot discussing it.

For everyone that’s still *****ing about this - it was always the plan. This is Giants GM Joe Schoen, who was personally at the bowl game…on the field, and recording Cam on his phone. Right when half time hit, Joe left. He knew Cam was only playing a half. Cam didn’t “quit at halftime” the plan was to play a half. Yall gotta stop ****ting on Cam.

This post has NOTHING to do with Cam

It’s more of how Shane Beamer handles his program vs how Mario handles his program

Looks like Beamer told his team either you suit up and play the entire game or you don’t suit up at all

Yea heard that. I see your original post is not about him but alot of the replies are. I agree with you about that way he dealt with his squad. I like Shane as a coach.

Nothing but respect and gratitude to Cam Ward.
But playing half a game because his agents and/or NFL personnel requested he do so is a gross disrespect to not only the UM but to college football. I don't blame Cam but, seriously, either play the entire game or just stay home. This is lame. It's like pledging to only put in the tip when banging some chick. Just a disgusting scene what this college football has become. I don't recognize this abortion.

Based on hearing the way Mario speaks and how he words things he strikes me as being obtuse enough to believe that the “decision” for Cam to not play after half time was an internal decision that didn’t need to be explained to anyone much like going for it on a 4th and 1. Not justifying it on my part but that’s the vibe I get from him.

“It’s his responsibility and prerogative and he owes no one outside the building an explanation on it.”

I don't understand some of this.

Our defense lost us the game.

But let's pile on Cam - and crucify the QB who was swarmed and never had a chance to get into a rhythm.

Run, run, run, and run more and a pass here and there.

Field goal on a three yard reach? When our line COULD and WAS pushing them around?

We got our *** beat. And the entire team contributed.

That’s a big leap. Just because Cam played doesn’t mean he was requested to by a GM. I don’t think that would be requested anyway. There is enough film out there for them to draw their conclusions. A meaningless bowl game doesn’t change that. I think Cam did what he thought was fair. He played one final game for the Canes, but shortened it to minimize risk. Like I have said all a long, who cares if we had won that game. That defense was so pathetic we would still be talking about it win or lose.

I get it when coaches are misleading or coy when discussing injured players and when/if they are going to play the next game as well not having to explain to the public why they made a certain call during game. But with-holding healthy players is another matter. It is unfair for people spending their hard-earned money to travel to a bowl game only to watch backups play. At least give an explanation after the game, it is the least he owes to people who invest their time and money into this program.

To me it is not about crucifying Cam. It is the aholes, otherwise known as the adults and leaders of this sport, who got us here in the first place what with players dipping on teams during the season and bowl games. Exhibit A being the coaches themselves who have been dipping on their teams during their bowl season and, even worse, the NCAA leadership who have encouraged bad behavior thanks to the way they have overlapping, if not conflicting, windows for transfer portal, bowls, spring practice, etc. They have created this mess thanks to them and the many scum agents and hangers-on.

My opinion is this.

If you're in uniform, you're available to play. If you aren't going to play, then go change and you're welcome to fanboy it up on the sidelines in support of your team.

Standing there, ready to go, knowing you could make a difference, but choose not to, that's lame as ****.

I'm sorry if that hurts some feelings around here, but you're either all in or you're not. I didn't see what Beamer did, but from what others said, I think him and I would be of the same mind here.

Specifically about Cam, if it was about passing the torch, cool. Beyond that, I'm not down with any other excuse. This was still your team and you abandoned it.

We needed Emory to play to see what we had. Not sure what is so hard to understand about this. It was a win/win. Got to see Cam play one more time and break the record and then got to see that Emory can never be the guy at Miami.

I already knew Emory wasn’t the guy after watching him last season.

But it would of been better for Emory to get the full game, and all the reps in practice if we really wanted to give him a fair shot, and also let Judd Anderson get reps and playing time as well

But make no mistake about it, Mario wanted to win the **** game, and didn’t want to play Emory at all, Cam forced his hand

Fine, then let the public know that this is the plan for the game. If you're going to disrespect the bowl, college football and the fans by treating this as a glorified spring scrimmage, then have the decency to explain it to the public. As for the coaches needing to play Emory to see what they have, he's been with the program for 2 years and has played. If they needed this game for verification then they are not doing it right.
