It doesn't.

Other than Markel Bell and Mauigoa, the staff might need to hit the portal for a C, LG and RG next year...

Trust the evals...

I think we will see some development out of a couple of guys. But there could be injuries. Your statement may well be correct, though.

That would mean that Samson, Kinsler, McCoy, Tripp aren’t ready for spots that Mirabel is cross training them on per how he operates. Not great.

Kinsler and McCoy are ones that I believe will be ready.

And don't ignore Cooper and Plazz.

Historically, OL development can take a bit longer.

Fair enough. I just think that our next step was an ad in The Miami Hurricane for Open DT Tryouts.

As for 247, I know I've seen a site that has EVERYONE in the Portal, even the walk-ons. If it's not 247, my bad.

In principle, I agree it’s easier for me to sit here and say “should’ve xxxx”.

I also understand I get small bits and pieces of a much larger pie that is as complex as the day is long. When I get something (if I ask directly like the other day is) it’s very high level and on the fringe.

When that happens, I default to what I would do as professional who builds organizations for a living. And one of those is you never bring in someone who doesn’t fit what you’re looking for just to have a warm body.

Obviously that doesn’t translate directly to D1 football, but I’d like to think people who preach competition won’t bring in someone who has no shot to be better than 5th on a depth chart.

its interesting that the strategy norvell used is the same strategy were using now. we are better at HS recruiting by a lot, but it really doesnt matter anymore if you are pushing out young kids for more day 1 ready transfers now. it is what it is.
Pushing out young kids? The only ones that come to mind is Wayne and Pullian. As has been discussed, Waynes's development may not warrant a high NIL package. He opted to portal out rather than take a pay cut. Pullian is plain old playing time. Even without Alderman, he sees a stacked LB room with who we've recruited after him and who's being lined up for the next class.

What looks like happened, is after Ward arrived, they realized they struck gold with a QB with only one year left. They've decided to push all their chips into the pot. Most that are transferring are Denis', Sagapolo's, and now Gore, guys who've had a chance but haven't made an impact, not young ones.

I can't imagine Cristobol deemphasizing HS recruiting (ala Norvell), it's against his DNA.

Yep, but is he an example of sacrificing young talent in order to win this year or are there other things in play?

If I remember, he was thought to be pretty raw, brought in more on potential than anything else. Maybe once they saw him on a daily basis, they felt ... (who knows, fill in the blanks).

I would’ve rather had nobody at DT than burned a scholarship on Gore.

I also don’t believe that the full list of players is published or reported. So, I have no clue who on the list was bigger than a High School DT.

Based on what I have read time and time again on this board, it is my understanding the "list" of quality players in the portal at any given time is closely tied to the schools who are back-channeling and enticing those players into the portal.

If 6'0" 280 lb. Thomas Gore was the biggest and baddest portal DT last year but we actually didn't think he was starter quality (that seems like a new narrative about Kancey 2.0, but whatever), then we did a trash job of "enticing" a better option. Don't like the portal DT options? Ok. Grab your checkbook, pick up the phone, and get a better option to opt in. It's a new day with new rules. For Christ's sake, we've got Nicky Saban out in public talking about his recent tampering efforts.

Yall celebrating the Gore to portal move, but I'm sitting here looking at Anthony Campbell and wondering how he's better? I guess because he has EDGE/DT versatility?

Since we aren't getting Harmon or Damonic Williams, and looks like apparently Cj West may have some big academic problems making him not a candidate, it seems we better hope Moten takes the next step. As it stands I'd expect Clark to be our starting NT.

Don't forget "lack of weight gain".

Rather Scott or Jones take Gore's snap. But yea you said it there are no other viable DT's in the portal that we are going for.

I would maybe go for the Oregon kid Johnny Bowens, Hes 6'4 295 and he could be an option for the future if anything we just drop him.

CJ Clark, Barrow and Marley Cook could leave next year leaving us with Moten, Horton, Scott, Blount and Jones in the DT room and who knows if they will all pan out. Bowens could give them a cheap option to plan for the future.
