This wasn’t an undefeated team

The team's record is more accurate than it was yesterday. I wish we got away with it, but we didn't this time. You only have so many comebacks. My knee-jerk thoughts:

- The defense is the story for me. We gave up 271 yards rushing to a team with no QB and no RB. We lost time of possession 35 minutes to 25 minutes. We gave up 9 of 14 third downs. On a critical 3rd and 18, we couldn't win up front and left someone running wide open. It was a bad day.

Here's the frustrating part: we had more cards to play than the opponent on defense, and we still lost. That's not just a talent issue. I thought the defense would start creeping towards average over the last four games, but we're going in the opposite direction.

- My biggest disappointment is the defensive end position. Before the season, we all knew our secondary would be a weakness. The hope was we'd kill just enough drives with our pass rush. That hasn't panned out consistently. Zero sacks today. Pass rush opportunities were limited, but part of the reason is that the edges were so soft that Georgia Tech controlled down and distance. We just don't perform like a team with two NFL DEs.

- Cam Ward is still the best player in the country. No serious person would compare him to Dillon Gabriel. But he was off today. Missed throws early and struggled with his pocket presence. He had checkdowns available for chunk plays that he consistently turned down. He's the least of my worries, but it wasn't his best day.

- The only bright light was OJ Frederique. That's what a playoff-caliber defensive back looks like. We don't have enough of them.

- If I could bring a recent player back, it might be Jaquan Johnson. We lack a tone-setter in the back seven. The guys that know how to play aren't twitchy, and the guys that are twitchy are either injured or green. Teams are going to continue to challenge our perimeter tackling, and I don't know if we have an answer.

- I didn't mind the decisions to go for it on fourth down. That's who we've been all year. The playcalls and execution are fair to question, but I like trusting the guys who got us here.

- Elijah Arroyo is a high-round NFL pick. Difference-making speed at his size.

- We didn't have a terrible day with penalties (3-35) but it could have been more if a couple targeting calls and a facemask went the other way. This has been a problem all year.

- It's a shame that Popo Aguirre got injured, because he was playing really good football in a LB group that is taking steps backwards. Teams are continuing to take advantage of Kiko Mauigoa in space.

- I'd like to see the All-22 to see how much separation our receivers were getting. We will continue to get challenged by teams with athletic corners.

- I hate that we have to worry about other ACC teams losing. We've been here before and it always ends poorly. But we are in a strong position compared to the past. Most tiebreaker scenarios favor us.

This team needs to get value out of the bye week and handle its business. The goal remains an ACC Championship. I'm less optimistic on the defense than ever, but the offense will give us a chance. Go Canes.

That’s a cop out.

Are you sure about that? With this schedule? Beating ACC teams is too much to ask? Thats weak

Coming into today these were the loses of the playoff top 12

Oregon
georgia
Alabama
Ohio state
Arkansas
Texas A&m
Vandy
Tennesee
Oregon

Good teams rarely lose to bums.
Oregon is on the ropes to Maryland right now. I'm sure they'll pull through, but it went down to the wire with Boise also. They also sucked vs Idaho. I'm not sunshine pumping at all, never been one of those guys, but this Miami and its coaches are pretty flawed. It's being masked by a stellar QB.

How can I not blame Mario? College kids are going to get lazy. You don’t get “trap games” in the NFL because the pros know any team can beat another any Sunday. It’s his job to make sure they play with urgency. Of all the things that made Saban great, one of the most important was that Bama was basically a machine. Didn’t matter if the opponent was a 2-6 FCS team. Bama players approached the game the same and took care of business. That’s culture. I don’t see that culture on the team. This is especially disturbing at OL. That’s Cristobal’s specialty. Why aren’t they dominating the LOS and just letting the RBs eat?
Are you under the assumption that Mario is Nick Saban? I have some bad news for you.

But they didn’t lose. They played meh early but are now controlling games. On the ropes? They are up 21-10 at half.

We haven’t been up 11 at half since ball state lol

He said in his presser this week that Jason Taylor pointed out he wasn’t seeing something last week. He’s a goofball. I’m over him
It’s really sad if it’s taken Taylor this long to point something out to Guidry… the staff must not feel that he will ever listen to them and their opinion if it’s taken this long

Do we have bama level roster? Agree to disagree here. I put most of this game, if not all, on Guidry. We were out schemed and exposed. And it impacted the whole team

It doesn’t matter if you have a Bama level roster or a UAB roster. Coaches can make sure their players understand the stakes every week. Players whose heads aren’t in the game get benched. How many times this season has Sam Brown slowed down when he shouldn’t or dropped easy passes? Just because he’s getting paid NIL doesn’t mean he needs to be in the game. ****, if Ward isn’t taking check downs and f#cking up the offense, run the wildcat a couple plays so he gets the message. This offense is supposed
To score 45 ppg. Inexcusable to not even hit 30 against GTs pass D, which Is one of the worst in the country. Players clearly didnt have any urgency this game.

I love fans, we are usually more right than talking heads give us credit for, but some people act like they are seeing the world for the first time. L

Then they scored while I was sitting outside with the dogs. Still, my point stands. Almost any team can be beaten. Good teams lose every weekend to bad teams.

We all knew this wasn’t an unbeaten caliber team. The offense had an odd game but they’re not the problem. Our D has been getting worst every week, Guidry is the problem.
And who hired Guidry? Mario is a BIG problem as well...he will always lose at least one game like this a year. Oregon, here...history doesn't lie

Hate to be that guy but Clawson is gonna run counter, outside zone, and fly sweeps all day in 2 weeks. We should crush them, but the defense likes to prove us all wrong. Wake is a bad football team, hopefully we don’t let them be great.

@ Cuse we are going to have drop a 50 burger on O.

of course any team can be beaten. Playoff caliber teams (based on first rankings) though are not losing each week to bad teams. There might be Mid to bottom of the top 25 teams that might, I guess that’s what we are. Too bad with a generational QB/Offense.

I mean, we probably make the playoffs anyways. After 20 years of a 7-5 average, I am a pig in **** over here. I have no misconception that we are winning the natty.
