this quote from Chick on D'Onfrio bothers me

What makes you say KSU is a top 10 team? Because they blew out a ****ty Miami team?

I think KSU would beat any of these teams

11 Michigan State
12 Clemson
13 Wisconsin
14 Ohio State
15 Virginia Tech

Sorry brother...no chance they beat Clemson. The rest I don't know cause I haven't seen all of them play (full game) this year...but Clemson (with Watkins) abuses that K State D.

I understand its apples to oranges, but anyone watch the LSU defense tonight?

The way there DL gets off the ball is rediculous. It seems like literally every D I see looks faster than our defense

KSt is a good team, Snyder is a fantastic coach, that said we shouldn't be beaten down like that ever. That was embarrassing. The offensive and defensive game plans were terrible and we didn't execute.

You're reaching. Although people may or may not like D'Onofrio's style of defense, defense isn't really about "calls" it's about execution. If we play cover 3 we play cover 3. Cover 3 isn't a bad "call.". I believe that moreso he's saying that if we somehow get caught in an unfavorable defense (eg all out blitz vs a screen), we have to control it and not allow a game-changer. This is rare as donofrio is not uber-aggressive at least for now.

Golden's a defensive coach. If our defense is approaching WOAT status, he is complicit in this. The board doesnt know more than these guys. D'Onofrio is not on his own here. We don't just have one idiot leading our defense. These guys will get it fixed or they won't but I seriously doubt that getting rid of Donofrio is on the table as the solution.

I've just had a bad vision of my passing. Some day i will have an heart attack and the priest standing at my grave will say "He had to watch the 1.000 000st quarterback keeper for a touchdown against his beloved hurricanes, while the defense had no clue where the ball was." :(

Worst game I've seen as a cane fan.

+ 1.

I don't think I've ever been so frustrated and disappointed after a Cane loss. I don't care how young we are. There is no excuse whatsoever for letting a team slap half a hundred spot on us. Our D looks like a junior varsity high school team with such bland and basic schemes. Also, just like last season, Coach D fails to show any inclination of the concept of making adjustments. His ineptness is absolutely shocking, and very Shannon-esque

I know we don't want to talk about those boys up north, but we all saw UF's defense yesterday. A&M's offense was slicing those gator boys to shreds in the 1st half. However, like any competent/decent D-Coordinator, Quinn made the necessary adjustments in that hostile environment, and the gators shut A&M's offense down after halftime. I believe in Coach Golden. I still think he is the right man for the job. With that said, IMHO, his best friend, Franklin, and Kehoe need their pink slips after the season.

i'm thinking its 70/30. 70 on ****** players. CHICK for the star whores should've been a hi 3/low 4 versus the 5* he got. Kid's peaked. don't see it. he doesn't show he'll ever be a dominant pass rusher

The biggest disappointment to me was the lack of aggression on D, we are so ****** passive I can't stand to watch it. We have 2 guys on D who seem to play with some fire DP and EJ, the rest play like a bunch of scared girls

Did'nt know that there was a bar in this forum....so in that case .....whatever he's having....I'll have one of those.

Michigan St. has one helluva stout D and they'd shut that KSU "draw up the middle" down. They also do a pretty good job of disrupting.

Clemson is schizoid but their O would smoke KS. St. Ellington and Watkins alone would be a nightmare for 'em.

With Wisky they might stand a chance ...but not by much.

OSU is Kansas St.....but with far far better talent. So the nod goes to OSU.

VT craps the bed out of conference ....so who knows?!.

Onofrio's defensive scheme is terrible, TERRIBLE. No amount of talent can overcome his passive style of allowing the offense to dictate the pace of the game.

You realize he's coordinated good defenses before, right?

I was a big fan of Al and thet staff he came with, I'm now really questioning him and the defensive staff. They've had some time to prevent what happened yesterday. I would have been okay with a lost, but that was horrible. They had their one and only punt with 23 left in the game....23 left in the game. Come on man. Also, this is EVERY game we look this way, even when we win.

I'm going with all of the above.

Certainly possible, but I just don't buy that Golden and D'Onofrio are idiots when it comes to defense; I mention Golden because they're in lockstep philosophically.

They had good defenses at Temple once they were able to get things straightened out.

They may not be idiots, but they're approaching the problem incorrectly. They've apparently assessed a lack of talent, and their solution is to extend games. That may work against lesser teams and will get us 5, maybe 6 wins. But, it won't prepare us for the future and it's a dangerous foundation for our youth. Additionally, I'm gonna shoot you straight here: I have zero evidence that D'Onofrio is capable of creativity or strategic advantages. At least on the other side, I've seen Fisch design some great stuff. His issue is lack of focus.

I fear that keeping Coach D, too long will be Golden's undoing. We need a change here immediately, that defense is putrid.

Theyre going go keep doing what they're doing to build a solid foundation... It would be out of character for golden to try and do something currently..then try and change it up when he has the horses to run his system

Wow, you nailed it.

Biggest myth out there. Anytime they played a spread time from the MAAC they got killed.

These guys built their stat numbers against some of the worst offense ever assembled (Buffalo, Villanova, etc).

Same way we saw our def #s in the teens after 4 games. Then conference started.
