this quote from Chick on D'Onfrio bothers me

A good coach fits a scheme to his players, not the other way around. It should be obvious at this point that the current scheme on D doesn't fit.

Or, that the current players on D don't fit the scheme all of these message board defensive coordinators want us to run.

Some of you should submit your resumes for the soon to be open DC position at Miami.

It's a message board. The entire point is critique, engage and discuss. It's encouraged here.

Please do not discourage discussion on this football site. Thank you.

Onofrio's defensive scheme is terrible, TERRIBLE. No amount of talent can overcome his passive style of allowing the offense to dictate the pace of the game.

You realize he's coordinated good defenses before, right?

I've thought about that. At Temple, they really didn't have much talent, so the mentality of "bend, not break" was thrust upon them.

The only defenses that win games are attacking defenses. Only an attacking defense can disrupt an offense, as these 'crazy ********' are coming from every which way with their ears laid back.

Job #1 for a defense is to place your opponent into a state of psychological dislocation. You can't allow them to plan a damned thing. You disguise your defense by shifting and mixing, faking, showing blitz to make them change their play, overloading the point of attack - a gamble - but half the time it's a real game changer.

If you play defensive defense, instead of offensive defense, you'll get your *** kicked with great frequency and thoroughness.

Coach D is great where you must have a bend not break state of mind, but he doesn't know the first thing about an attacking defense. NOTHING!

Golden is doing a lot of things right, but he better be finding a defensive coordinator who can attack an offense. LSU's defense attacks. Alabama's defense attacks. KSU's defense attacked us, and we couldn't do squat.

Energized, attacking defense. It's the only way to win in D1.

It's not soon to be open because the DC is besties with the HC.

I don't claim to be a defensive genius, but when 2 mediocre offenses light you up for a combined 80+ points and 1000+ yards, I would know that I have to drastically change something.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from criticizing our coaches at the University of Miami. We simply don't have the horses to compete consistently on a week to week basis and no scheme is going to change that.

Golden was a DC.

Rightly or wrongly, D'Onofrio is running what Golden wants to run.

Is your suggestion to continue to do what we do? Same approach? Just wait for time to pass? Offer a solution, I suppose.

I was kidding with the soon to be open comment, but many of the people here would have fired D'Onofrio already.

Yet you dont add anything about the topic, but you have to criticize someone on how the post? Dude get a life bro.

Back on the topic. KSU is a top 10 team, and may be a better team than FSU right know. We may look back at the end of the season and laugh that we thought we could hang with this team. KSU's average age is 22. What are we? 18

I'm pretty much right with you. dont like to panic and jump the gun BUT there is obviously more to a 50 point *** whoopin than just young players. we got WORKED and it was pathetic. awful. it took 6 canes to make a tackle but our guys go down on first contact it seems.

What makes you say KSU is a top 10 team? Because they blew out a ****** Miami team?

we take every play up the *** it seems. just stand there and let the offense come at us.

I don't have a solution because I'm not a coach and I don't know what plays are called and who is responsible for what on any given play. But, from a fan perspective, it appears that our guys are simply getting beat one on one right now on defense with the exception of a few guys. Hardly anyone is winning any of there one on one battles. We also have guys who STILL take bad angles to the ball and don't wrap up when they make a hit. Throw in the fact we have several true freshman playing large minutes on both sides of the ball, and all that adds up to a very bad team.

I just think people are overreacting to this loss today. We're just not very good.

Coach D is incredibly limited by our lack of talent. Its saddening.

What makes you say KSU is a top 10 team? Because they blew out a ****ty Miami team?

I think KSU would beat any of these teams

11 Michigan State
12 Clemson
13 Wisconsin
14 Ohio State
15 Virginia Tech

Uh, what? Part of what I have to do is to make sure members of this board don't discourage other members from critique and discussion. I kindly reminded him. I can't apologize if that somehow made you emotional. He didn't seem to take offense, answered, and we're not engaged in a football discussion. I hope all of that meets your approval.

Would be difficult to win a one on one battle when you're playing zone. If you mean DL, they're literally being asked to engage and control gaps on a consistent basis. It's apparent from your post that you think this has everything to do with the players. Is that right?

For what it's worth, I don't think anyone would argue with you that we're not very good. I also don't think we're nearly as bad as we showed today.
