“He puts us in position to be successful,” Chickillo said. “It’s on our guys. We’re not executing. Even if he makes a bad call, we have to cover for him. That’s what great defenses do.

Chick is saying that the coordinator makes "bad calls." How is a defense full of freshmens (most certainly not a great defense) supposed to "cover" for the coordinator's ****** calls? This is disturbing and an indication that the defense may not have faith in the coordinator.

I don't think that's what he means.

D-coordinators don't call perfect games. Sometimes the offense is just in a great play for what the defense runs.

When a defense gives up 1,000+ yards in 2 games, the coordinator is making a lot of ****** calls.

Or maybe the players suck.

I'm going with all of the above.

I'm going with all of the above.

Certainly possible, but I just don't buy that Golden and D'Onofrio are idiots when it comes to defense; I mention Golden because they're in lockstep philosophically.

They had good defenses at Temple once they were able to get things straightened out.

They may not be idiots, but they're approaching the problem incorrectly. They've apparently assessed a lack of talent, and their solution is to extend games. That may work against lesser teams and will get us 5, maybe 6 wins. But, it won't prepare us for the future and it's a dangerous foundation for our youth. Additionally, I'm gonna shoot you straight here: I have zero evidence that D'Onofrio is capable of creativity or strategic advantages. At least on the other side, I've seen Fisch design some great stuff. His issue is lack of focus.

whats concerning is that they faced KSU last year. In other words they knew what to expect and had basis to develop a game plan. And yet failed miserably.
These guys are either to goddam stubborn or clueless.
No way in **** KSU should ever put up 50+ on a Miami defense. I don't care if we line up 11 true freshmans. Never should happen.

Onofrio's defensive scheme is terrible, TERRIBLE. No amount of talent can overcome his passive style of allowing the offense to dictate the pace of the game.

While I agree about the "there's always gonna be some bad calls" argument, Ohno is a ******* bum. Nothing but one record setting day after another. That doesn't happen just because you don't have talent, it's because you ******* suck. He was doing the same soft zone bull**** in the latter years at Temple. Dude is trash thinking he's still going up against the slow *** offenses of the Big10 from back when he played.

Im not defending the DC, but our players on D, particularly the front 7 are gawd aweful. AC&DP and some frosh defensive backs are all we got on D.

I'm not going to say D'Onfrio sucks yet. But it is a serious problem when the head coach and d coordinator are best friends. Golden will never fire him.

Smh...all of the above ...but more stubborn

KSU was 101st in total offense last year. In a conference that mostly plays **** defense. It has very little to do with the players. Everyone runs a train on Ohno.

A good coach fits a scheme to his players, not the other way around. It should be obvious at this point that the current scheme on D doesn't fit.

Or, that the current players on D don't fit the scheme all of these message board defensive coordinators want us to run.

Some of you should submit your resumes for the soon to be open DC position at Miami.
