a good coach finds any teams weakness and keeps hammering.

UF will try to run the ball on us. even if first two quarters it is not successful, they will assume over time our D will get tired and collapse and then can wrap up the game second half.

Conditioning is huge for us on the D-line. We need to be ready mentally for this.

I think both sides will be in for a surprise

from UF: they will be surprised how much better our D has gotten and how good our O is
form Miami: we will be surprised how well Driskell improved and how much their running game is going to be a problem for us.

it will come down to good coaching and whoever wants it more.

can't wait!

I think the one huge advantage that we have over UF that not to many people are talking about is Special Teams. They lose Andre Debose their best return guy and we have Pat O'Donnell the top returning punter in the country. It has been well documented that UF does not have the most explosive offense and a QB that does not make the best decisions with the ball. If we can control field position and make them have to drive 60-80 yards to score on the majority of their possessions we can keep this low scoring game.

Florida will also be breaking in a new kicker this season. That means UF will have an inexperienced guy kicking off to Duke, one of the most explosive kick off retuners in the nation. Also that new kicker will have to kick field goals in our house in pressure situations most young kickers will not be able to handle that kind of pressure.

If our offense can get an early lead and we play great special teams I just don't see how Miami does not come out of this game with a victory.
Ironically enough, UF has the better punter.

This might be its own thread but we need our playmakers to show up. None of them have history of playing well in the big games we have had in recent history. Not Morris, Not Duke, Not Dorsett. All those guys will be depended on to provide a impact on offense. If they are as good as we think they are, they cannot only feast on FAU caliber teams and be held to high standards.

Like the past great said- Big Time players, step up in big games!! or the more widely known "big-time players make big-time plays in big games."

killa,

What are your thoughts on Riggs playing the role of Elam? Is he big/good enough?

no, not near as good as elam. he's like the 4th or 5th best db on the team realistically.

they are using him to play centerfield. muschamp thinks the secondary is by far the best unit on the team and says he envisions a secondary where there are 4 or 5 guys on the field with corner skills who can swap between corner and safety effortlessly...makes for better felxibility and coverage. if anybody is going to play the elam role which is a nickel/hybrid linebacker, then it'll be maye.

Interdasting indeed. Morris will have his hands full against that secondary for sure. Our best bet might be trying to exploit your linebackers in coverage because those DBs will keep our WRs in check I think.

fowler is a freak.

our strength coach dillman said he's weighing 270 right now with like 8% body fat and recently ran a 4.6

at one of the open scrimmages the other day they had him running drills with the corners...yes, you heard that right. supposedly to improve his pass defense for when he plays olb in the 3-4 sets.

I hear Muschamp is a freak in his own right.

Now capable of swallowing an entire large banana without letting it touch his teeth or braking eye contact.

yea the linebackers will be there for the taking, i'm just not really impressed with the position especially if morris doesn't play. the guys starting have lots of experience but not much talent, the talent lays with the underclassmen but they do not have the experience for this type of game imo.

270 lbs at 8% body fat.... yeah sure buddy.

take it up with dillman, i can't verify one way or another just telling you what was reported. wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit exaggerated, but i do know teammates speak about the dude's talents like he's otherworldly. fowler has always been a manimal, he even ran down on special teams on occasion and was sometimes the first one down.

That says more about the rest of your team IMO. How many sacks does Fowler get against Miami?

i wouldn't say that, we were excellent in special teams across the board last year. even on defense they used him in ways that a guy his size should not be able to. dropping in coverage, playing middle linebacker, 3-4 olb, etc. he has unique athleticism for his size.

and i don't know, guess we'll see. the miami o-line, uf d-line matchup is the one i'm itching to see the most.

UF's Will Muschamp says top 3 RBs right now are (in order) Mack Brown, walk-on Mark Herndon & Valdez Showers. Taylor & Lane on hold.

That's a lot of pressure on the front 7/6 to stop the run if you are going to play corners at safety. Also, not sure that's an easy transition, pretty different mental approaches going from CB to S.

agree, i guess it speaks to the confidence in the d-line. i have full faith in them but close to zero for the linebacking group. it will be interesting to see how it plays out. i guess he is banking on the secondary being able to hold their own regardless so he can bring some up to help against the run if necessary...very risky approach. we are either going to be excellent in the secondary again or give up some big plays in the air which we are always susceptible to since we play so much man coverage.

jack of all trades master of none, decent player nothing more. he'll still do his wildcat stuff, some slot, and they've been inserting him as a flex te and pass-catching fullback.
