I think the one huge advantage that we have over UF that not to many people are talking about is Special Teams. They lose Andre Debose their best return guy and we have Pat O'Donnell the top returning punter in the country. It has been well documented that UF does not have the most explosive offense and a QB that does not make the best decisions with the ball. If we can control field position and make them have to drive 60-80 yards to score on the majority of their possessions we can keep this low scoring game.

Florida will also be breaking in a new kicker this season. That means UF will have an inexperienced guy kicking off to Duke, one of the most explosive kick off retuners in the nation. Also that new kicker will have to kick field goals in our house in pressure situations most young kickers will not be able to handle that kind of pressure.

If our offense can get an early lead and we play great special teams I just don't see how Miami does not come out of this game with a victory.

With Pat consistently forcing UF to drive down the length of the field 2 things can happen

1. their not so great QB will make mistakes and we get few picks

or

2. they keep running the ball and wearing down our D.

I think this game comes down to not our Offense, but how quickly can our D come off the field. We can't let 3 and longs turn in to 1st downs.

Or furthermore, on the occasions when we do get a 3 and out or just force them to punt, we need to answer it with a score. That's how you get momentum and demoralize them.

I was more concerned about #2 being the case when they still had Matt Jones starting on the depth chart.... they dont have the horses to wear down a defense w/ just the run game w/o him.

Also i expect a guy like Curtis Porter to really be able to create pressure at the POA on running downs.

I just saw espn's pre season all American team. Now, we know espn loves the SEC, so how is it that UF with a supposedly, "elite" d line and 3 lockdown corners don't have one of those guys on the list?
That is the point I've been trying to make.
When you say "elite'" and the only people who agree with you wear gator colors to bed, then you are slightly biased.
I think the gator d line could be good, but "elite?" Nope.
As for their secondary. A lockdown secondary doesnt get torn to shreds like they did in The Sugar Bowl.
That's right. The gators didn't care about that game.
Bullshiit. They cared plenty. The were just out coached, out played, out manned, and out gutted.
The only people who don't see that are gator fans.

There is truly no such thing as a lockdown secondary in college football when teams trot out 4 wide, because there has never been a team, EVER, that could trot out 4 blanket corners on defense.
Not even our 2001 team, which, objectively speaking, was the greatest collection of talent in the history of college football.

We will see what happens. I just don't see your good d line dominating what is an elite Miami offensive line.
A great qb shreds even an elite secondary. We've seen that time and again.
You guys do remember Phillip Rivers when he was at NCState?
I don't see your secondary coming close to blanketing Dorsett, Waters, Scott, Hurns, Coley, Walford and Sandland, and I'm pretty sure that even the staunchest gator homer knows we are going to put up 30+ in this game.
If your offense isn't hitting on all cylinders this will be a blowout.
Miami 56 gators 17.

your post is contradictory. you say the fact that uf doesn't have any defenders on the 1st team all-american team is proof they're not elite yet you think your o-line is elite miami doesn't have a single lineman even in discussion for an all-american team and barely has any consideration for an all-acc team, in fact only linder is on one so how does that make any sense?

and i'd really like to know why people think uf got 'shredded' int he sugar bowl, they gave up 336 yards of offense and held louisville to 1.9 ypc, in what world is that being 'shredded'? i have to wonder if some of you watched the game. louisville had an interception return and also a 19 yard TD after a uf turnover, their offense with the best qb in the nation scored 19 pts. for all intents and purposes.

i also think you guys severely overrated your receivers. on what basis are they elite? they have yet to do anything against a good defense and some of them (waters, coley, sandland) have not started a game yet but in the 2nd game of the year they're going to shred a secondary that was #2 in the nation in efficiency and pass defense? if that isn't homerism i don't know what to say. at this point all those guys are potential until proven otherwise. a 56-17 prediction is just...good lord that's so ridiculous i'm at a loss for words. jesus.

good post, the punter will definitely be huge for you guys in this game and its definitely a concern for mine. if we have to drive the length of the field consistently theres no way we win, the offense simply isn't good enough. what is miami's situation at kicker?

The gators will run the ball until it seems silly. than they will run some more. this game will be difficult to watch. it will be all about clock burn and field position from the gators. special teams and turnovers will decide this game LIKE MOST EVERY OTHER. the gators are not rebuilding, they are reloading on d. only Elam will be missed on defense. their d will be THAT good again. their OL is much improved. their qb still sucks. their wr's suck. their RB is a HUGE question mark. win by one or one hundred, I DON'T CARE. JUST WIN and the rest will take care of itself. Duke will be the difference if we win.
I just told everyone what they already knew. LMAO "that's why they play the games" Go Canes :stormwarning:

killa,

What are your thoughts on Riggs playing the role of Elam? Is he big/good enough?

I know this is unrelated, but I had to LOL at Matt Thomas when asked about deciding to play at FSU instead of sitting out a year he said "It is what it is". Sounds like he's really excited to be playing there. Let's hope it translates to some lack of motivation on the field when it's the 4th quarter and he's got Feliciano coming at him for the 35th time.

no, not near as good as elam. he's like the 4th or 5th best db on the team realistically.

they are using him to play centerfield. muschamp thinks the secondary is by far the best unit on the team and says he envisions a secondary where there are 4 or 5 guys on the field with corner skills who can swap between corner and safety effortlessly...makes for better felxibility and coverage. if anybody is going to play the elam role which is a nickel/hybrid linebacker, then it'll be maye.

He's going to being playing MLB.... i'm sure he is good enough to be a good MLB but his strength was playing off the edge. lol His *** ended up trolling his own self thats whats so funny to me about the situation.
