Al inherited a much worse team than Randy did. Randy was also partly responsible for the team he inherited. Advantage al

Man you ****ers have some memory loss.

Golden is a clown, but Radio was a million times worse, in every aspect.

Yet, their records are identical, with Radio playing the harder schedules. You aren't the type to let agendas get in the way, but I am having trouble seeing how you would make that assertion.

JMO, but Radio was smart enough to surround himself with better assistants. His on field record wasn't that bad, but it was a complete **** show to watch at times. He was clueless. He definitely had some decent talent, even though his recruiting classes were horrendous as far as depth goes. I'm of the firm opinion that Golden had a lot of clean-up work to do when he got here. Had Randy stuck around, we really would have seen the fruits of his labors. That's not an agenda, just genuine opinion.

but yeah, I threw a lot of hyperbole in there for effect. Thanks for the call-out

Clean up work? Do you not remember the same talent excuses? Literally, the same identical ones? The most famous "but but Randy took over a team that had a punter playing WR the year before."

Other included: "but but we are STARTING Glen Cook at LB. He wouldn't start anywhere else in the country"

You can just substitute "Shayon Green" and "AJ Highsmith" for the above sentence and it turns into 2013.

Yup I remember. The part that really hurt was the top talent that Randy did recruit, Vernon/Miller/Streeter/Forston/Washington all bailed on Golden. That was a massive blow to the team and the depth.

Only thing I really know after watching these last few coaching staffs is that I'm pretty confident you or I could be a coach and win 7 games at Miami. It really doesn't take much.

Here is my issues with Randy an Al separately.

Randy - Recruiting was looking scary bad in the last season.

Player development seemed like it could be better. Didn't like all the rumors of favoritism which seemed to be true when you look at the Arthur Brown situation. That kid ended up looking a lot better than most of our LBs when he went back to K ST, but couldn't even get on the field here. Overall, it was not bad, but I think he could have gotten more out of some of them.

Too much coaching turnover, but some of it was not his fault (Nix needed to be fired, and Bill Young left for OK ST where he was from). Other than those 2, the only other coordinator to leave was the DC (Tim Walton). When you look at it that way, Nix was a necessary change, Walton may have a been a poor choice to let go, and Young there was no choice in the matter.

Inconsistent on the field, but at least we looked like we were capable of playing with anyone. Problem seems like the players attitude wasn't there most of the time. Randy just didn't seem like a motivator, and obviously play calling was suspect at time. Year 2 and 3 we only got dominated on the field once each year and it was to good teams. The other losses, we looked competitive and kept it close. Year 1 we got smoked a few times and the team was not that good. Year 4 we got smoked a couple times and Randy got fired.

Al - Recruiting is great, but no more excuses about the cloud after this class. The cloud is gone and we need to stop missing on these top end Dade guys. Seriously, no way Al should not have been able to pull in 2 solid RB's in this class. Yearby is a start, but we really needed Powell, Cook or Sony as well. Didn't they all grow up Miami fans, and not one ended up here, but Yearby who was committed to FSU first comes (but he came for Coley more than Golden).

Not much coordinator turnover here, only Fisch has left so far, but unfortunately, Fisch is the only good coordinator we've had since Al has been here imo. Coley shows potential at times, but his playcalling gets stale, predictable, and doesn't work at times. Then there is Dnofrio. I'm not even going to talk about this other than to say maybe we need more coaching turnover.

Player Development - seems non existent to me. I have seen nothing from any of our players to show that they have gotten so much better in their time here. All I see is guys getting bigger. That sure helped us not get pushed around by Louisville. I love watching Mccord and Quan pass rush. I'm scared as **** that Golden is going to make them huge and they are going to lose a step. Lets see what happens. Tackling isn't any better. Play recognition and reaction is horrible.

On Field Coaching - I'm sorry, but Golden hasn't shown me anything to show he has a clue what the **** is going on. Our players look so bad on the field, but noone is going to succeed when they are playing 10+ yards back every single play. The lack of pass rush doesn't matter, because the qb has already passed in 2 seconds, because his WR start every play wide open. We don't make any adjustments. As bad as Randy was on the field coaching, he looks better than Al.

Al wins the media, and recruiting. Randy slightly wins on field coaching (imo). Player development and coordinator movement is still a toss up imo. Lets see if Al's guys show any improvement next year and lack of coordinator movement might be hurting us more than helping with Al. Randy's coordinator movement, was a lot, but not as bad when you look at the reasons.

A billion times. But put it on paper (text) in here. At this point, who is the better head coach?

Randal

or

Albert

What is better?

Being ran over by a tank, or having a helicopter land on you?

What is better?

A tornado destroying a house, or having it burn down?

Neither of these guys are Tier 1 coaches, neither is a PROVEN talent developer, and both were TERRIBLE gameday coaches.

Randy is clearly better on defense. Golden is clearly better as a recruiter and as a mouth piece for the program.

I ultimately feel great recruiting can cover up a lot of deficiencies in the long run. Although Golden has not been able to prove that yet. If you have me picking between 2 terrible options, I guess I would be forced to pick the Clouded One.

What a miserable time to be a Cane.

its almost as if there is a cloud hanging over the program

This reminds me of the scene in Ghostbusters ...."Choose the form of your destructor".

No seriously, I'd go with Al. Better skillset than Randy and a harder worker, although more stubborn.

Advantage: Herr Cloud

Harder schedules? Maybe, but most likely due to the ACC being slightly better at the time, as UNC, UVa, Ga Tech, and BC have all dropped off. Both have played aggressive OOC games. Don't forget Randy being embarrassed in his final game against a pathetic USF team.

Simply put, Al's a better recruiter than Randy and Coker. The talent at Miami has always been more important than the coaching. If he truly grabs top ten classes with the majority being from Dade and Broward, we will win big. Randy was a great DC here…. ok, Randy was a DC here with great talent. Look at what South Florida talent did for Strong and Jimbo. As a result of the ncaa and Randy's disasters at local schools, Louisville and FSU pulled more high end talent from us than they would have in normal cycles. Al will win because the talent here is deeper than it ever was. 150 D-1 ships in three counties is crazy real. The best high schools football in the country is right here and the gap is getting wider every year now. Call Al Zook or whatever, but talent is the great divider in college football. The last pieces are a great QB and good coaches to win huge. Someone will win big if the stables are full. It always has been and will be this way at Miami. You don't need Butche's eye to get great talent here.
