The Work - Canes Camp #3

The defense looks pretty good but who are our studs on offense other than Brad?

If the OL can give him any time that would be the reason. Most important position in the field.

But what if they can't keep him upright? What if the Blackshirts knock him out for the season, EARLY in the season?

As I said before, the talent is uneven with a small number of players having to stay relatively injury free for Miami to go even 6-6 in the regular season with the schedule they have this year. 4-8 is more likely and if FAU shocks UM, it could be worse.

To me its all about health.. You ****gots wanna be real let's be real.....Kaaya did not have the arm to get the ball out to Dorsett like Morris did . WHy do you think he dropped off in production after having no drops last year? Dorsett with all of his talent was neutered last year...Rashawn Scott is a better type WR for Kaayaa. Scott will lead this team in receptions if he stay healthy... Theres no reason COley cant put up Dorsetts numbers last year....For all the beast DOrsett was he had no lateral quickness.. We threw screens to him that amounted to nothing...Waters, Berrios, and COley are better at the screen game. Yall acting like Dorsett was our offense... He was an after thought most games.... I see no rason why we shouldnt have a better passing game then last year..Kaaya in 2nd year.. Yearby is just as good as DUke in the passing game. Now the run game Im holding my breath on

In all fairness he sure did keep those safeties back. That opened up much of the underneath stuff that Kaaya had so much success with. It will be interesting to see if Corley can scheme around not having that sure fire deep threat and safeties that will be playing closer to the line of scrimmage.

Meh I think keeping safeties back is overrated especially with Kaaya last year..... IMO teams came out to stop Duke not stop Dorsett... Skai Moore's people(Chad WIlson) Said that South Carolinas defensive game plan was to stop Duke and stop Duke only they were not worried about Kaaya beating them over the top...

There are however tons of coaches that disagree with that philosophy.

I hear you im not saying that, Im saying that South Carolina wasnt scared of kayaa to dorsett and they played their safeties up to stop Duke... Go look at the game tape on youtube...We scored against FSU because we spread them out.... DOnt know why we stopped that attack

FSU played a heavy zone underneath, the dam routes coley were calling were trash, we tried to run the ball with duke but he wasnt being effective that was the time for play action deep, coley got loose one play but kaaya over threw him

Yearby averaged 6 ypc coming off of a broken ankle in December. He will do big things this year along with his Edwards

When are you going to post the weights of the corches?

When asked by reporters what he worked on/changed during the summer, Golden said he feels renewed, is tipping the scales at around 260-270. "we've got a new training table, not sure if you knew that. I'm eating much more. I've put on the weight I need to handle being head coach and special teams coach." Meanwhile, when asked about changes in scheme for the defense, D'nofrio garbled with a mouth full of twinkies, "I'm up to 310. I feel like I’m still at 290, but I feel a lot stronger, can ignore the noise a bit more now".

Excellent series of posts. It's the reason some of us come on this site. Thanks

Agreed Vern. Losing a WR drafted in the first round who averaged 25 yards per catch and scored 10 TD is not a loss whatsoever.

36 cathes in a 12 game season though?? Stacy Coley cant replace those numbers?? I think Coley is a better prospect and Player then Dorsett? If you had to ask me before last year started who would I rather have Dorsett or Coley I'd chose Coley...IMO If his mental is right it will be an upgrade.. We get COleys confidence up the sky is the limit..Im excited

447 of his 871 yards which is 51% of his yards came from 3 games alone from cincinatti, Pittsburg and Arkansas state.... On only 12 catches. On the season Dorsett had 9 games on the season out of 13 where he caught the ball 3 times or less.... To further break it downs he had 0 catches verses Duke, 1 catch in each of the Louisville and North Carolina games and had only 2 catches in the Virginia tech and Nebraska game... We won't miss him that much as he was barely even used... However, when he did get the ball he made the most of it. I agree with you Coley can do every dorsett can do and more.

Funny that the same group saying 'support the players not the staff'
are the same group ****ting on players in defense of the program (et al the staff)

Where is this talent that you guys speak of?

The defense looks pretty good but who are our studs on offense other than Brad? Coley is a flake, we don't know what we're gonna get out of him. Waters is a good player but I wouldn't consider him a certified stud. Berrios has shown a little. Scott hasn't played football in 5 years. The O-line has lost 5 NFL players within the past 2 seasons. We're bare as ****. All of them are question marks. Edwards and Yearby have shown flashes but neither has shown us that they can be a stud. The other RB's are question marks. None of the TE's have shown anything yet.

People that say we have all this talent on offense are going off pure speculation IMO. At least we have depth and experience on defense. There's guys on defense that we can definitely say are studs cause we've seen it.

I'm not optimistic about this offense at all. They've sucked the past 2 seasons and they've been loaded with NFL guys.

Vern, I understand exactly where you are coming from but look at it like this. Read the following list

1. Brad Kaaya
2. Joe Yearby
3. Gus Edwards
4. Trayone Gray
5. Mark Walton
6. Rayshawn Scott
7. Stacy Coley
8. Braxton Berrios
9. Herb Waters
10. Tyre Brady
11. KC McDermott
12. Trevor Darling
13. Nick Linder
14. Danny Isadora
15. Chris Herndon
16. Standish Dobard
17. David Njoku

Now I get that it might not be our 2001 roster but when you scan that list you have to see that there is some good to very good talent there. Are many of those names young and unproven? Yes but there is certainly talent there. Many teams would love to be able to have that entire list. You say it's all pure speculation. Well yes but isn't most of it to a point? The things you wrote to qualify offensive players like Scott, Coley Berrios, Waters, Yearby and Edwards could also be applied to many of our defensive players.

When it comes right down to it, what has Chad Thomas really done? AQM? Burns? Elder? Owens? Moten? Jenkins? Carter? Kirby? Hertelou? Wyche? I'm not trying to be a douche just trying to make my point. Personally I think our defense should be nasty if the right coach ran it. I also agree with you in thinking that we have more proven experience and depth on defense. Offensively I see a good amount of talent but I don't think that is the crucial question. To me, the huge concern on offense generally speaking is if our coaches are competent and savvy enough to maximize potential while using that units strengths to mold an efficient and cohesive group. Unfortunately, I think most of us know the answer to that.
