The Work 12-6

Receiver recruiting is very concerning. I am having flashbacks of the last 2 staffs. I hope Pete is correct that MR has this covered.

Difference is, you have a track record of elite recruiting with Richt.

Can't say that for Golden and Shannon, who you were just hoping they knew what they were doing.

But not at WR. Outside of AJ Green UGA never had impressive WRs. Behind him who's the best to come out of UGA at WR under Richt, Malcolm Mitchell?

Someone tell Edwards Colorado didn't just start playing football. They had plenty of recruits at and above his level in the 90s and early 2000s.

This. Deon Figures and Chris Hudson were badasses. Mike Macintyre has never gotten a recruit like Edwards because he's a cornball. And I actually kind of like this Colorado squad he's put together.

he also coached warrick and others at FSU.

Sounds like the close right now will be McFarland, Slaton, Herbert, Harley, Conliffe, Dean, Edwards, mystery WR

I know its not going to happen but imagine that mystery being juedy.....this forum would crash instantly

WR recruiting has been a disaster this entire cycle. No way to sugar coat it. They initially pursued and accepted commitments from Rodney Scott & Kevaughn Dingle, despite our appalling lack of speed at receiver. Better to correct mistakes than hang onto non-UM caliber players any longer, but this new staff coveted both and royally botched their early evaluations.

Our chances of landing Jeudy or Smith appear slim to none. Then this will likely turn into a last-minute frenzied pursuit of three-star specials at arguably our most dire position of immediate need. I really like Njoku, but it's unacceptable to miss on every single premier WR target when we're beyond f***** at the position if Richards misses any time due to injury.

But hey, there's always next year to start landing premier receivers. Sound familiar?

He's got 5 WRs in the NFL currently. No superstars outside of Green in that group but Conley and King had good careers when they were healthy.

his running backs and qb's havent done too bad. he has an elite base of talent in so flo. they coached up ar and coley well so i think once we get going with wins, they will come.

The strength of this class was always going to come down to OL/DB/WR.

- If we close with Slaton/Herbert to join Donaldson, that's a grand slam along the OL.

- Losing every head-to-head DB battle to UF, including Henderson, would be awful. No sugar coating that, either. But closing with Dean and Edwards should be enough to bridge the gap if -- and it's a major if -- we're actually able to clean house with the 2018 DBs. That means not just landing the ones who were always going to end up here like Blades/Frierson, but actually winning battles for guys like Campbell/Hall. Closing with Dean/Edwards but missing on Henderson certainly isn't great or disastrous, but it's good enough.

- As much as OL recruiting would be a grand slam with Donaldson/Slaton/Herbert, WR recruiting looks like it's shaping up to be the complete opposite. Maybe we get an unforeseen surprise, but this looks like a disaster in the making. Hopefully that's not the case.

The Henderson thing is interesting. Has anyone actually evaluated Henderson as a good CB? He became a board favorite because of his speed as a RB not because of his ability as a DB. How many people have watched him play CB and what are their opinions of him as CB? How long would take for him to be ready to go as opposed to Dean who you expect to plug in and play?

**Not much new on Brian Edwards, who will visit Miami the final weekend of January. I still expect him to sign with the Hurricanes, but a source close to his recruitment said “a few more schools are circling the wagons” and that Colorado is a real dark horse here. Colorado is selling Edwards on being “the type of recruit the program has never had”.
Does this school have no other pitch to South Florida recruits? Didn't they use that with Tommy Streeter Sr. (the dad) in the 80s?

What's your thoughts on WR recruiting? Haven't seen your opinion on that subject.

Wasn't Corn number 1 position in high school running back? Thing with Henderson is upside he has the frame and speed to be a great corner with the proper coaching maybe not ready Day 1 but has the highest ceiling of any CB we are targeting.

Pete, nice work.

Who would you say McFarland compares to?

Dalvin Cook. But faster and more elusive.

Not even close hahah Same running style but Cooks quickness and explosiveness is out of this world. He looks like he is barely trying yet glides across the field outrunning everyone.

I guess your forgetting this years FSU game where Corn Elder hawked down Dalvin Cook.

Devonta Smith is nuts if he goes to LSU.

Ed Orgeron is going to be a complete disaster. When has a position coach who was promoted from a failed staff ever succeeded? Orgeron may be a good "recruiter"; however, he is a maniac and will be a terrible head coach.

Dabo Swinney

Terrence Edwards
Mohamed Massaquoi
Reggie Brown
Fred Gibson
AJ Green

He has had plenty of good ones.
