The Work 12-15 (Weekend Recap)

We landed one of the top safetys in the country and we're looking good to land JC, I'll call it a success, even if the latter is not true. Getting Hester was a huge coup.

People in here b*tching and complaining about the DT position, really?

Valentine is a stud, Moten is a stud, Jenkins is a solid player and we have a JUCO in Wyche. If these 4 aren't good enough then you guys will never be happy.

I don't know if it's necessarily complaining about this class in particular, but not being able to successfully fix the foul ups at the position the last couple of cycles is what is getting frustrating. Top end JUCO DT talent still doesnt just walk in the door at Miami, it just is that way. This is a **** good DT class if it sticks, one of the best if not THE best DL class in the country. Just sucks its about two years away from really paying off.

This. Nothing wrong with complaining about needs at positions. I remember years ago, people would ***** about not signing more WRs/QBs. There were several recruiting seasons where we failed to sign any. At the time there was the preditable "how can you ***** about WR position when we signed so many other great players". We're seeing it again with DT. Thaknfully, though, as jhal mentions, we signed some great young kids.

None are prepared to do so on the interior defensive line, but everybody else is fair game if you ask me.

Between Chad, Trent Harris, D. Jackson, and Mike Smith, I'd be absolutely SHOCKED if we didn't get some pass rush help from them early on.

I also think that Kiy and J.C. (should we get him) would really push for some PT at safety. Those dudes have outstanding instincts and play physical.

solid post.

However the same thing was said 2 years ago when we signed Briscoe, Ivory and Moore. How did that turn out?

We need as many potentially good DT's as possible.

JMO

Verdict is still too early for Earl Moore. We'll see if he can help next year or stay buried on the depth chart. Briscoe did not have an offer from LSU so to me that's telling. He got a lot of interest because of his play during the state playoffs. The knock on the kid prior to that was he wasn't a hard worker. Ivery had no in state interest of any significance. He was a late add from Louisville. Valentine and Moten are national recruits. Wyche was committed to Southern Cal. Looks like he can help immediately at NT. BTW, I like Moten a lot. He's got the explosion Miami has been lacking for 4-plus years on the interior.

Check yourself. Briscoe worked his *** off -- countless all-nighters -- on the XBox.

I watched American Heritage play in the state championship game to focus on Michel. I made the comment that the nose guard was quick and reminded me of Warren Sapp. Told my buddy and fellow Cane that the Canes should offer this guy because we need a short shoot the gap quick like him. Glad to hear the staff is considering this kid. My only knock on Golden's recruiting style is that they seem focused on size and prototypes instead tough *** pure football players.
