The Tale of Dan Enos: Failure In Numbers

People are enjoying hyping themselves over the “Bama OC” title he’s held for two weeks, even though he’s never called a single play for Saban.

There’s also rampant and furious *********ion due to the fact that Georgia is rumored to have offered, too. That’s fine, but if you look deeper than that at metrics of substance and numbers that quantify his actual output coaching offenses, there isn’t much to get excited about. There isn’t a pattern showing a history of routinely fielding great offenses.

Let’s look at the results. This is a post examining cold hard facts and indisputable numbers — Not one about who’s rumored to be pursuing him, or his job title, but objective stats. Stats Penos can’t escape.

He was the head coach at Central Michigan from 2010-2014. He had full control of that team. He could’ve run any offense he wanted. Here’s what he did:

Total offense:
2010: 49th
2011: 57th
2012: 64th
2013: 110th
2014: 70th

Scoring Offense:
2010: 82nd
2011: 91st
2012: 64th
2013: 96th
2014: 81st

So he winds up in Arkansas with that Butthead looking weirdo Belima. Here’s what he does as offensive coordinator:

Total Offenss:
2015: 25th
2016: 54th
2017: 94th

Scoring Offense:
2015: 27th
2016: 57th
2017: 61st

If you look at just his resume alone, he’s a terrible candidate. Not only is he not a fit for the style that best suits us AND the one Manny claimed to want, he has nothing in his history to indicate he’s capable of engineering highly powered and productive offenses. He can’t move the ball. He can’t score.

You throw his resume up against a guy like Fedora’s and he gets absolutely run out of the building. People like him because they hear “Alabama offensive coordinator” and we’re so desperate to be good we’ll like anything, so they build a small fire and grunt around it “hur hur Saban hur hur Bama OC” without delving any further into his past production or style.

Coming back to the facts:

Penos produced ONE respectable offensive unit in SEVEN seasons.

We can post homerun gifs or talk about which coaches wanted him, but when it has come time to put a successful offense on the field, he’s failed to do so 85% of the seasons he’s coached.

And those remain the facts.

I hope he has some late-career revelation that turns him into an offensive savant, but as of now, all he’s proven is that’s he’s a journeyman guy running an offense that seldom produces and is pretty opposite of what Manny said he wanted.

God help us all.
Boring!

I think we play the wait and see game. I’m not in love with the hire. But he has a pretty good background of coaching a lot of positions and he’s got a good vibe to him. I think he will coach with that same edge Manny has and I’m down for that. It’s really all about but in. If he can get these kids to buy in then the recruits will see the needed results to st least look into us. Has the guy come out and said we’re gonna run power I, 3 yards in a cloud of dust? Gonna be hard to be worse than Richts boring clap and run four outs at three yards deep in third and three.

Folks...this guy is not a Cane!! There is a chance he is a HERD member that has his Ph.D. in bullshyt and negativity. The above post is an example of the idiocy that damages recruiting as no matter the UM football situations losers like this hater will come up with an angle to attack the program. Stop this 24/7/365 hate that has been non-stop over the past 15-years and Miami has a good chance of becoming a recruiting powerhouse, and in turn, National Champions.

Same thing that popped to mind when I opened this thread. OP aint a Cane.

Clear-eyed take, OP. A weak hire. But it comes as no surprise. The prolonged search meant that Diaz was swinging and missing on his preferred candidates.

He'll be better than Richt&Richt, but almost anyone would. His stats don't indicate he will be much better, though. And Saban didn't give much of an endorsement either, doing nothing to try to keep him.

It's both comical and unsettling that Manny would post a gif suggesting he hit a homerun, when he clearly failed to get any of his primary targets and had to settle for someone that was not on anyone's list (including his).

Show the proof that your comments are facts versus simply vomiting up negativity on the Canes football program. Provide solid sources for all of your claims. Demonstrate to all who read your negative nonsense that Manny failed to capture any of his primary targets as you claim.

To those that read this HERD members negativity... this is the non-stop hate aimed at the program and is designed to kill recruiting. It is past time that this crap is stopped as it has been going on non-stop for 15-years and greatly damaged the program and especially, recruiting!!

If you truly love Canes football then start pushing back on these morons!

Uninspiring hire. Fedora, Scott, applewhite, host, Harrell all would’ve been better
Streeter, Qb coach from Clemson, would have been a splash: young, spread and resume which includes National Championships and development
of Watsun, Bryant, and Lawrence. Think it would have been easier to sell Qbs come play for the guy whose coached Clemson's last 3 Qbs vs.
the 50 year old coach who was going to be Nick Saban's OC because Locksley left.

Per 247 sports
Dan Enos as oc will implement a more downfield passing game.

In 2014 passing yards per attempt was
8.4 at cmu 18th ranked in the country

In 2015 passing yards per attempt was
9.0 yards per at attempt, 9th ranked in the country

In 2016 passing yards per attempt was 8.3 . 21st ranked in the country

Miami passing yards per attempt in 2018 was 5.9 , 119th ranked in the country...

Good breakdown

****! The Slurpper Brigade is out in full force. OP brings you plain as day facts, and you just want to pretend like the are not real, because its not what u want to hear. Now I know how Trump got elected.

So far the offense hires are wait and see, nothing more, nothing less.

And y’all got to think about it, at Arkansas he was coaching against arguably the toughest division of football in the sec west so he’s not just going against trash defenses either and padding stats against the likes of some of the weak power 5 teams like most of the big ten, big 12, pac 12 defenses

He’s a Florida Gator. That’s a fact. Another guy got band for pointing it out.

Trump derangement syndrome still? Thought people got over that.

As for Enos and his past record - explain to me this - why in God’s name would Bama, UGA, and reportedly other programs, be after this guy for OC if he brought nothing to the table?

The coaches who went up against him, at Arkansas, all want to hire him now. Michigan St is looking at him for HC down the road.

These are the best coaches in CFB trying to tell you guys something.

Now I am of the opinion that it’s still gonna take time to develop a dominant OL (which you need to win titles, regardless of offensive scheme). We have talented guys on the roster. They need to be developed in the weight room properly. Feeley is a key part of this puzzle.

Exciting time to be a Cane. 2 weeks ago we had Richt and his son running the offense, Hartley coaching STs, and Felder as strength coach. How can you not be excited at what’s happening?

Shrugs

Sometimes looking at numbers alone don't tell the true tell of the tape. What was jimmy Johnson record before he came to Miami? Just looking at his w/l without the substance behind it would mislead into to thinking he couldn't coach when in fact when given the proper tools it became obvious he had a superior football mind.

All from states that voted for Trump:zczkqmritjdsoaq.jpg:

There's a reason uga and bama offered him OC jobs....even Sabin and Dabo had bad seasons before becoming champions...why not wait to see before judging him post bama?

Your asking for these pessimistic posters on this thread to be patient before predicting doom and gloom? You would have a better chance of winning the lottery before that would happen.

And I'll say this so it's loud and clear. IN MANNY WE TRUST! So far Manny has navigated things well especially with getting transfer kids to commit and we should let him have some time before crying about his hires.

I've watched two games against Miss St (he put up 100 points) and a game against the #2 ranked Florida D (he put up 31 points). With Arkansas. I'm sold.

But OP isn't waiting to start the negative point of view and is only showing his negative history instead of what people think of him now. so why aren't you on his case for only sharing one sided facts?

I see the hate will always be present on CIS.
