The roster, the NCAA, the impact...

I completely disagree. The more seniors the better. More experience, more mature players, more men less boys. Not all the elite players leave early.

I counted 8 scholarship seniors on the current roster, if you exclude walk-ons, former walk-ons, JC kids, and kids who transferred in. 8 total Sr. kids that we recruited out of HS.

Wait, so other schools don't utilize JuCo ranks or transfers? Why does it matter if we recruited them out of high school or not?

I'm not saying that Juco's or transfers have no value or anything. But they are kind of like a pro team trying to fix their draft mistakes via free agency. You best odds are identifying, recruiting, signing, and developing talent out of HS so they have the time to adjust, live inside the playbook, learn, and develop. I'm certainly happy we have Gunter right now, and O'Donnell last year.

I'm not saying build your team through the JuCo ranks. You should accent your recruiting with JuCos or key free agents.

Totally agree. But having 8 scholarship seniors out of say an average class size of 24 or so means you're not "accenting" the class with Jucos, etc. It means you're ****ed and are filling your two deep with transfers, Jucos, and kids who should be backups still.

Nothing wrong with being sensible.

How many guys stay at Bama, FSU, LSU etc until they are seniors. Of those seniors, how many of them are high draft players (4th round or better). Theoretically, your concept is true, assuming the good players aren't leaving. Problem is in reality, if you have good players, they usually are not staying until their senior year. So we can say theoretically, the more seniors the better, but at a BCS level program, if you have a lot of seniors, it generally means your team wasn't very good.

Well of you only have 8 seniors left from one class it means your recruiting is ******. We didn't have any sanctions limiting our scholarships. It was a combination of bad evaluations of players both on and off the field.

I feel like any discussion of expectations, be they "sensible" or otherwise would be a lot easier if the Golden supporters could come to a consensus on what year it would fair to begin to apply them. The excuse machine is already being cranked up for 2014, so scratch that one off the list. Would it be fair to ask Al Golden to have a respectable program by '15?

If the clock wasn't running during the cloud, why should it run throughout the duration of the sanctions? Soooo the 2017 clock is ticking? Or is 2017 going to be his first year post sanctions so he'll need a couple more years to build the roster up?

Can we all agree that 2020 is a make or break year for Golden?

That's what happens when you take over for Randy Shannon and have minimal time to put together a class.

We didn't have sanctions, but we were recruiting with one hand tied behind our backs and a shiv in our gut.

We've improved every year, which is kind of amazing with what's been going on.

There are a lot of issues to point at, and its just a round and round argument, but what can't be argued, is the 2015 recruiting class is a fair fight. It needs to be a good one. I'm optimistic because I really liked out 2014 class.

I know Goldens first class was a patchwork job because he was short on time. But after that the clowd was overblown. Sure we lost a few recruits because of it but it wasn't some debilitating menace like he wants us to believe.

That's positively idiotic. No offense. There was "death penalty" chatter. And we were giving up bowls every year. I'd give that response a little more thought.

Bingo.

It's remarkably short-sighted to believe the investigation didn't hurt the program, but Golden has used it as the excuse in both recruiting and on-field performance.

He actually referenced the cloud after Louisville whopped our *** in the Rustled Bowl. Pathetic.

Isn't on field performance directly correlated to recruiting?

It's amazing that even with death penalty chatter we were able to land guys like Deon Bush, Tyriq McCord, Ralph Kirby, AQM, Coley, Sandland , Darrion Owens and more before our actual sanctions were announced.

I'm not saying there were recruits that we lost because of negative recruiting. But to act like we only had a pool of talent to recruit similar to FAU is ridiculous.

Most would concur.
