Miami will never have enough money to compete with public schools. It's that fact alone that settles this debate if we're searching for a definitive solution. Public schools pump out more alumni than private schools, therefore the alumni networks are much larger for public schools. When it comes to adding to campuses, making renovations and the like, alumni donations are key! Remember in "The U" documentary when they said buildings were popping up while they were winning, that's because the football team was raking cash from bowl games and successful seasons as well as alumni supporting their winning ways. So it's a combination of too small a network of alumni and our athletic programs haven't been experiencing much success. As for the Schwartz Center, that was mainly due to major alumni donations. My uncle, who's a big alumni, was asked to donate and he didn't because he thought his money would be better spent in something else. Not that he didn't want to help the U, but because he was already making donations in other areas. I did a package on how the Schwartz Center all came about.
