FWIW Ferman had some interesting comments in his daily morning podcast. Seems he is thinking the announcement is imminent- mentioned being on OC watch.

He also implied that the process of interviewing has been used as a bit of a teaching tool for the rest of the staff. The candidates have had to present their planned offense and then react to certain situations presented to them. I found that really interesting given there have really been so few leaks. You’d think if these candidates were involved with multiple staff members more would get out.

Alright so can’t be today for Valentine’s Day.

Can’t be tomorrow for Singles Awareness Day, can’t be Thursday for National Do A Grouch a Favor Day.

Friday is National Random Acts of Kindness Day so we’ve got a shot there, can’t upset the basketball team on Saturday and then Sunday is the lord’s day.

Bingo. Because it doesn't happen. This is Notre Dame showing their hand as it pertains to the investment being willing to be made on behalf of Marcus Freeman.

Hate to go "there" but Freeman is just a stop-gap until Rees finishes his Saban School of Coaching class. If Domers don't win 10+ the next two seasons, Freeman is done and Rees will be in as HC 2025. Freeman is as much of a fit in South Bend as Charlie Strong was a fit in Austin.

didnt kirkland himself admit that when he gave his commitment interview?

Yeah, not trying to troll you or anything but you're entirely off-base on this one. (Wifey is a Domer and diehard Irish fan).

Those guys LOVE Freeman. Dude is a terrific recruiter, good person, and a great representative of the school, and he's viewed as a perfect fit for the program. ND doesn't want to move on from Freeman (especially not for Rees - more on that below) and are mostly concerned that any sniff of success Freeman has in South Bend will result in him leaving for a school that pays NIL (ND doesn't until the players are on campus and won't discuss contracts with recruits), won't make his players have foreign language and calculus prerequisites prior to admission (ND requires it), and -- in the most recent instance -- would pay large buyouts for a coach they identify as important for the growth of the program ($2.8M is a rounding error for ND - the school has an $18 billion endowment).

Throw in the fact that the NBC contract payout is no where close to being what the SEC and B10 teams are getting, and it all leads to the conclusion that if Freeman has any type of success there, he's gone. And while the losses to Marshall and Stanford last year were not good looks, he did have the team finish 9-4 with a quarterback who couldn't throw the ball 20 yards downfield. And now he has Hartman.

As for Rees...they HATE the guy. He was a bad QB at the school and only got the offensive coordinator job because Brian Kelly was his binky. His playcalling was pretty bad, he seemingly is infatuated with the passing game (when they have 3 backs capable of controlling the game), and they aren't really bothered by him leaving for Tuscaloosa. He's also been bad at identifying QBs (he's the QB coach as well as the OC, and his recruiting there was abysmal) and developing players once they get to campus. As a casual observer of my wife and her friends during the ND season (when the Canes aren't playing or we aren't at the home games, obviously), the fanbase really, really despises Rees.

Add in the fact that Rees openly flirted with Miami and LSU last year before taking the Bama OC position, and that Rees openly pines for an NFL position, and you just couldn't be more off-kilter with your "Rees is the next guy" comment. His hiring was viewed as nepotism at its finest (his Dad has an administrative role with the football program) and the AD apparently wants nothing to do with him after leaving for Tuscaloosa.

Just my two cents from a man who outkicked his coverage re: marriage, but realizes you gotta take the bitter with the sweet and that I'll be dealing with a Domer the rest of my life!
