The most frustrating part

You are a coach and you know football and I respect that. However this is not an issue of what the offense did overall in terms of total yards. Generally speaking the offense was very good but again that is not the issue here. Bill Walsh once said that in every game a coach has a handful of crucial decisions that will ultimately impact the game and go a long way towards determining the winner. Walsh then said that those key decisions are mostly offensive decisions.

This is where Mario really struggles. For example, up 21-14 with about 3:45 left in the half, Mario decides to play it safe and conservative. When faced with a 3rd and 2(or 3) We line up in a heavy run formation and run Fletcher right into a loaded box. No attempt to use play action or any counter off of that power run look. No, just right up the middle to get stuffed. We saw that too many times Saturday and that is the point. It's not that we had 500 yards of total offense. Nobody is mad at the offense. However people do get mad at some of the gutless and predictable decisions that are made at crucial points in the game that happen when we are on offense. See the difference? There are simply too many times a game where we don't even give ourselves a chance to challenge the defense.
this talk of the play it safe there is just not right. Chaney made a bone headed play. go back and watch. he could have crawl for that first down.
I wasn't a guy who wanted Mario but some of this is just players who will never figure it out.I have more of an issue with them still playing a kid like flagg.

While I 100% hated that call and want to see PA built off those 3rd and short looks, we also got our two biggest runs from a condensed formation with a loaded box of 9. When guys get washed or lost in the wrong gap with a loaded box, you usually give up a big play because no one is there to clean it up on the backend.

I spend Saturdays watching a ton of CFB and particularly the teams that have a chance to win a natty (UGA, OSU, and Bama).

While you expect power football from the SEC schools, I was surprised the last few weeks by how many condensed formations Ryan Day has run into a loaded box and they worked.

Their RB (who is similar to Lamar Miller imo) made a guy or two miss on each of their big runs.

On Saturday we had our two longest runs from condensed formations on 1st and 10.

The crusade against condensed formations isn't 100% on point, not even close.

We absolutely need to use PA on those and short 3rd and 4th down plays, but I do wonder how much our TEs having the dropsies impacts that.

We also need a mobile QB and a WR who can command some respect. Watch UNC, FSU, OSU etc. and there are times where the box should be loaded but the opponent keeps 2 safeties deep respecting the pass threat on early downs. Does not happen for us.

I like Day's offense and this isn't a crusade against condensed formations per se. It is a crusade against being predictable and letting the defense off the hook because of that. It's also a crusade against our HC/OC hiding under the bleachers everytime the offense has a chance to create some distance between us and the opponent and/or put them away. Lastly this is a crusade against Meathead coaches who coach to extend games rather than win them.

Even if Chaney made a boneheaded play thus invalidating my example, the overall point still stands.

you really have a thing about Flagg.

Yeah but so has FSU right?
I figured our defense could hold UL.
FSU did so with back yard football and 50/50 balls.

UL runs a scheme that get guys open and has a strategy. Fsu or Norvell stuff is based off their run game low key. We corralled that a bit.

UL scheme is much more difficult to deal with.

This week BC likely puts up pts with a qb that is going to just run around like crazy...especially if we play certain ppl in certain situations he will take advantage of.

Your not helping this situation showing big 10 offenses bruv.

The bolded is the most damning to me....and its EVERY TIME!!!!!

Like its uncanny for us to get a lead, get good field position and..........go on a 3 an out. Sh*T is like clockwork

Coaching has and will cost us multiple games. TVD played his heart out.

Mario Cristobal is now 5-10 in ACC play during his tenure at Miami. Lose to BC, and it’s the worst two-year stretch for a new coach since the 70’s.

Exactly! That is 100% Cristobal! That's his MO. It's also why he loses games he should win and why he will never win anything of substance no matter how stacked the rooster is. He coaches scared. Watch the games closely. Everytime we are behind we operate in a much more urgent fashion. However if we tie or take the lead he shuts it all down and crawls under a rock. He will go into a shell then hope that Fletcher breaks one. He never coaches to create a large lead because he doesn't have the stones to unzip his fly and stick it in!

You guys don’t get it at all. Your head is in the sand.

Mario had Justin Herbert and went 21-7 in a watered down Pac12. When Mario took over, TVD was coming off a 25 TD 6 INT season and was a legit NFL prospect. On the other part, what elite WR would ever play in this offense?

Meanwhile, the guy that took over for Mario at Oregon has Bo Nix going so much, he will be picked in the first 2 rounds. He was considered a broken QB when he went to Oregon.

The snowflake simp level is through the roof in here with the doomsday clowns. This team is way better in EVERY category than the last 5 years. Are we closing out games, of course not. But, it is a process and steps in the right direction. TVD single handedly lost us 4 games with his horrid play at QB. The GT game was on coaching, but seriously, if your "1st roUnD PIcK" QB is ****ting the bed turning the ball over and giving away points, how is that coaching? Typical complaining from fat body pukes who were always picked last in schoolyard kickball. GO CANES!

Yeah that's perfectly worded. At critical moments the playcalling is a head scratcher. We don't expect them all to work...but a little bit of creativity goes a long way.

It's like the dude who closes the deal with the chick at the bar - only, he gets too drunk and passes out before he can take her home.

We just can't seem to seal the deal sometimes when we can really seize momentum and ram it home.

Yep. It's called situational football and Mario sucks at it. And, I don't know that this is something that Mario can be good at. It's not like he's learning on the job - he's been a HC for many many years now and it's simply part of him that he does not do well.

You know your coaching tenure has been a failure when two years in your going " Well he aint cost us this one"

His coaching tenure here so far is looking very Randy Shannon like who yall hate...
Facts. It's amazing me to that our two minute drills look like Shannon and Jacory in that WVU bowl game. And that's us in every 2 minute drill, not just a one off. How does a guy with a decade+ experience as HC looked that inept every time in those situations?
