The game I'd love to see...

I think this year's Alabama team beats our 2001 team for two reasons: lines and coaching. Flame away.

Apparently, you haven't watched Bama for the whole season. Sorry, Notre Dame has huge holes.

Notre Dame had their way with us earlier this year

And that proves your point how?

They didn't look like they had many holes when I watched them play in Chicago. They were 12-0 against a good schedule.

Clearly you were watching a different game then. Mistakes did us in. Period. We rushed for 5+ per carry and never had Morris threatened. Drop after drop after drop let them play a ball control game that slaughtered our thin defense. Secondary was full of holes.

Good schedule? Really?
Purdue
Navy
Pitt
BYU
MSU
BC
Wake

I'd take that "good" schedule every year. Stanford and Oklahoma were the only "good" teams on the schedule and Stoops can't win an important game to save his life

I hate to live in the past and I like our future, but the recent results have me thinking about match-ups that would be amazing to see. In light of Bama's recent success I'd love to see our 2001 team vs. an All-star made from Bama's last 3 teams that have made it to the NC game.

Thoughts? Other match-ups?

2001 Miami had a better offensive line and much better defensive line.

Not true and IMO not even close on the OL. The Bama OL is much better. I will say I give the edge the 2001 DL over Bama though.

Fluker, Warmack, Kouandjio (spelling) are all potential 1st rounders and Barrett Jones is an animal (won the Outland as a left tackle and Rimington as a center).

LMAO, is this thread real??? Better lines.........BETTER LINES??!?!?!?...................BETTER ******* LINES?!?!?!?!

They didn't have better lines, or linebackers, or secondary, or qb, or running backs, or wide receivers, or tight ends, or special teams for that matter. There isn't a truly great team in college football this year and you wanna compared the most talented team of all time to some scrubs who couldn't even go undefeated. Either blatant troll, closet tide fan, or front runner of the flavor of the month.

Dorsey did not get sacked until the eighth game of the season. That line had three All-Americans itself and unmatched chemistry.

BTW- two Alabama coaches told me on two separate occasions, unprovoked, that Miami's current offensive line is more talented than Alabama's.Take that however you want, but they were unequivocal and I heard it directly.

You saw Miami's offensive line play Notre Dame, and you're watching Alabama's offensive line against that same defense tonight.

BOO DIS MAN!

LMAO this thread is ridiculous! Not sure how old you are OP but the 01 Canes roll Bama by at least 21 points. This isn't even the best Bama team in the last 4 years and you're comparing them to what is likely the greatest team of ALL TIME.

Bryant McKinnie allowed what, 1 sack his entire CAREER at UM? He received Heisman votes AS A TACKLE. Joaquin Gonzalez is criminally underrated as a college lineman, he may not have been a great pro but he was a 2 time All-American, not to mention the unquestioned team leader alongside Reed. Romberg won the Rimington as the best C in football! Bibla was solid, he bounced around the league for a few years to. Even Rasouli had a nice career up in Canada. And as far as defensive lines, are you kidding? Vince Wilfork might go to the Hall of Fame when he's done! McDougle was a solid pro, as was William Joseph. **** we had numerous NFL players as back ups on the lines. Better lines lol. Unbelievable.

Big difference In conferences as to the reasoning why Dorsey did not get sacked thru 8 games. Lets discuss this again once Bama's 5 are all drafted to the NFL. I'll let the NFL scouts prove my point.

Not to mention Jamaal Green, Andrew Williams, Cornelius Green, and Matt Walters. Those 4 guys were very underrated college players. Put them on this past year's UM team and we would have had a totally different team.

If the NFL is what proves your point, the 2004 Miami offensive line with Chris Myers, Eric Winston and even Rashad Butler was better than 2001. The 2012 Miami offensive line will produce more NFL players than both, but that's not the measure of success.

The 2001 Miami team had the best college line I've ever seen, along with the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Just for comparison's sake:

2012 Alabama

23 sacks allowed in 300 attempts

2001 Miami

4 sacks allowed in 340 attempts

And while the SEC is certainly a tougher conference, we all remember studs like Dwight Freeney getting pancaked by Miami's backups.

That offensive line was a special group with special chemistry. And the defensive line, as you acknowledged, is in a whole different league than Bama's. The other positions, not even worth discussing.

There's some dumb posters in this thread. D$ ain't one of 'em.

Al Cane isn't either. I know the dude, and he's forgotten more about football than I know. But the Coker/Shannon era has beaten him down so bad that there's no sunshine left in his life.

We played in the big east. Alabama plays in the SEC west.

ok. Because Auburn, Arkansas and Ole Miss are world beaters. A&M, LSU , Miss St are good teams. Out of conference they played Michigan, who was good at the time.

We played 2 top 15 teams in a row winning 124-7, beat a ranked PSU team to start the season, beat a good FSU team.

I don't think strength of schedule is a huge difference.
