The Fact That Kevin Patrick Isn't A Coach Here

Some of my earliest memories following the canes were of him and Darren Krein being the bookends of that Dline. Krein is the head S&C coach for the Phins right now.

I used to get into it with fans who said that lang and Holmes were better bookends than Patrick and krein.... Naw Sapp made them look better.

That trio of Krein, Medearis and Patrick was something truly special. Those guys were hellish coming off the edges. It makes one appreciate the days of vintage Hurricane defense.

**** Medearis' injuries. Never got a chance to show out in the NFL. Was a god **** beast here.

Hate this logic.

Has absolutely nothing to do with his coaching ability. There are some great coaches at lower level skills. Some guys just land in certain spots for certain reasons. Just works out that way.

By this logic he must've gotten worse as a coach cause his last job was at a much "bigger" program.

That's fine, but how does it equate to "Randy and Al f---ed up by not hiring him"? How is he any better than L.D. Scott, Frank Maile, or Robert Prunty?

I don't think Shannon or Al ****ed up by not hiring him. I'd like him here too but Shannon and Al had their guys.

"He seemed to do a very good job at USF, not sure why he didn't get a higher profile gig."

... and here might in lie the answer—Miami fans getting overhyped for a former player, while the rest of the world just sees a pretty good up-and-coming coach. Spent a lot of time as a defensive line coach over the years with the Bulls, never graduated to a coordinator and was just hired for the same gig at North Texas?

If this guy didn't have Hurricane bloodlines and Golden hired a North Texas defensive line coach, the fan base would be up in arms.

I don't think that's it. People saw what he did with USF's Defensive Line. They were nasty.

Me personally, I worked with him 2 years in a row at USF's D-line camp so I've seen him coach first hand. Love his fire. He's exactly what you want in a DL coach.

I totally forgot about Rusty .... no idea how ... but those guys lived in the backfield. That whole defense ... Barrow, Darren Smith, Armstead, Ryan Mcneil, Daryl Williams ... defense had playmakers and attitude for days. Todays team would be scared ****less of those guys.

North Texas played UGA even for 3 quarters in Athens before they ran out of gas, and this was before UGA's entire team got AIDS.

I'm a huge Kevin Patrick fan, but there must be a reason he's coaching at North Texas and not a BCS-caliber program.

You hate logic that shows some concern about a coach that can't find a decent job after coaching up All-Americans? Cool story.

I love KP, and personally I wouldn't mind having him coach in Miami. But, anyone that doesn't have any concern with him not being able to find a decent job needs to open their eyes and look at the big picture.

College football is a billion dollar industry. Coaches and AD's get paid millions for hiring the best people and winning football games. In REALITY (not on message boards), its a bit troublesome that a coach with KP's resume cannot find a job at a decent school.

It's probably concerning to any fan who has no clue how the coaching profession truly works.

It's about who you know, not always about what you've done.

Guys like Clint Hurtt work at top-10 programs because of who they know.

You're insinuating that the better coaches get the "better" jobs and that couldn't be further from the truth

You think Jethro Franklin is a better DL coach than Kevin Patrick? LOL

Clint Hurtt got the UL gig because of his strong recruiting ties to Miami which Strong made his recruiting focal point. Not because he knew people.
I'm sure Patrick knows more people nationally then Hurtt and is probably a better coach.
He just doesn't have the recruiting contacts to an area that is the most coveted in the nation.
Also, not sure how Patrick is on the recruiting front. Is he personable? Can he build relationship with kids?
That goes along way in landing top coaching gigs.

To me he seems like a guy recruits would love. He's animated, hip, down with their lingo but also a "take no ****" kinda guy.

KP was offered the Kentucky DL job by Stoops last year, but turned it down. Wanted to stay closer to home.

Why would Shannon have chose Kevin Patrick over Rick Petri? Petri was a helluva coach here. Our 2010 defensive line was ranked in the top 10. **** Petri went over to Duke...see how they have improved? Palermo and Petri have been two of the best defensive line coaches we have had in years.

No, and you have clearly never been to North Texas. Denton is an absolute **** hole. He may be a great coach but you dont land in N Texas if you have other options

He is at N Texas for a reason. We are complaining about not hiring North Texas' D Line coach.
