Clemson seems to be doing a really good job developing OL where they are recruiting at same level as us, but their results are crushing everyone
Having an athletic QB and solid play calling to hide ure flaws go a long way.
Also their OL going against their DL in practice sure helps.
Nope. We're not.
The sobering reality is...we're not even really close. The DL recruiting is alarming. One thing the ACC does have, is, at the top, strong DL recruiting and DL play. Clemson currently. Florida State when they were a contender had excellent DL recruiting. Even if we are to contend for the ACC Championship...DL recruiting needs to keep up.
How can you still have this false opinion with the bevy of evidence we have that teams that recruit at a higher average composite in the rankings tend to fare better.
DL recruiting is brutal and DB

And OL and LB and K and P. We are doing a great job with WR, RB, and TE. QB looks good on paper, but if Kosi and Jarren really are worse then Rosier then we have the worst QB recruiting in the nation.
My bro esfnyc hit it. It’s simple - OL and DL. As for DL, these elite schools typically recruit 5-6 DL per year including big 290-300 pound DTs. We, otoh, typically recruit DL that need a few years of weight room and seasoning - the elites recruit kids that are just about college ready.
Good point. I was actually going to start a thread about this but might as well put it here.
Sportscenter highlighted Auburn’s Dline vs Washington and how those beasts dominated that offensive line. They had 3 310+ pounders that can move and hold the POA, all War Daddies as I like to call them.
We have 1 DT bigger than 310 on the roster and that’s Jordan Miller. Nesta will prob get there too as he’s 300ish right now. We seem to be content getting guys in the 260-270 range and have them playing at 285-290, all 3T types that will probably be really good at penetrating but when those big lines from Clemson and the SEC are lined up in front will probably struggle.
I think you need to bring in 1 big body a class at DT so youll always be prepared for different types of offenses/injuries/busts/etc.

Yep. So, I just looked it up. I looked at signing classes from 2014-2018 and focused on LSU, UGA and Bama. Here is how their OL/DL breaks down...
Numbers are OL/DL.
Bama
2014 - 6/6
2015 - 5/5
2016 - 5/5
2017 - 5/4
2018 - 2/5
LSU
2014 - 2/6
2015 - 5/4
2016 - 1/7
2017 - 3/3
2018 - 2/3
UGA
2014 - 3/4
2015 - 4/8
2016 - 3/5
2017 - 5/3
2018 - 5/6
You can do further breakdowns and see that of the DL they recruited, virtually all their DTs were 300+ grown men. Same kind of deal goes for the OL - huge guys.
If you look at us, the last few years, we've signed 7/10 (OL/DL) - 2015-18. That just doesn't stack up. Need to stack chips at those positions and we haven't been doing it. To make matters worse, of those 7/10, we have a crappy hit rate.
We are recruiting top players, they just choose to go elsewhere. When we had a solid dl coach who's now at Bama they still didn't come. For offensive line the opportunity for early playing time is there but players still go elsewhere. Why?
That's not to say we haven't recruited anyone. We have signed on the OL two four stars the past two years. Previous to that not so well and we are seeing that right now. Next year SHOULD be a great improvement.
Same goes for other positions but that's for another thread.
LB is going to be intriguing moving forward.
After Shaq-Pinckney-McCloud class...not recruiting any last year...Steed-Jennings-Wilder class, locally, was good, but they are 3* guys...I don't think its unfair to say only one of them really pans out as starter level material.
We are really banking on the 2019 class of Huff-Solomon-et al to be the real deal, otherwise, along with our poor DL recruiting (with potentially less-than-Kul development), we have a sub-standard front seven moving forward.

This. We hit on almost every one in that class but only hit on Corey and Vaughn upfront. I never understood that...we offered 52 linemen that year but we took four and never pushed hard for some dudes that showed actual interest like Jordan McNair(RIP) and Nick Brahms...who I brought to the board btw. Kid went to Auburn. It’s a major problem that still hasn’t been properly addressed. Richt botched OL recruiting.
Why didn’t we bring guards in 2017?
