The Decline of South Florida

View as article
The key for national recruiting is budget. As the stats showed in the full article, we had terrible results nationally before our budget exploded. The South Florida signees were way better on average despite the many local whiffs.

When you have the budget to hire Cristobal and pay six-figures for national players, the map expands considerably. And the timing is perfect because South Florida has been slipping lately.
Which is why it’s so important for Miami moving forward not finishing second for the Jeremiah Smiths if the world. It also doesn’t mean Miami can’t land kids in Georgia Alabama etc. and still be talented. Great post bro

Don't believe it's been mentioned but shifting demographics might have something to do with it. With the incoming wealth migration from NY, CA etc to the area it's become very expensive to raise a family in this. area. Even before the last few years young families in Miami had been heading north to Broward and I wonder if that trend is accelerating more north or out of state.
This is a fact!! I was born and raised in Miami went to HS in the inner city and my entire no longer lives in Miami anymore. Some move north in state but the majority left the state to other parts of the country. In 10 yrs NW and other inner city schools will become a shell of it once was in football. GA, TX, TN, Carolinas will benefit greatly from the exodus.

should make russell a priority in both sports next szn. Basketball n Football

My qb will likely be slinging them the ball this year at MNW.

Russell, Card, Flowers (cb) are kids we should be on from MNW.

I like Card more than Josh Moore who the Gators beat us out for but i get it as Moore frame is ELITE at 6'4 205.

in Gogeta I Trust

Know this wasn’t easy for you D, we are here for you.
I have to call balls and strikes.

My guess is that it’s just a cycle of prospects in the same age range who underachieved at the same time. The physical talent was there.

Kids like Jeremiah Smith and Rueben Bain have the mindset to match the physical. There will be others like them who emerge.

In the meantime, Mario and Canes Connection’s ability to win national battles is a game-changer. The timing is perfect with the local downturn.

@DMoney in your judgement how does the Florida taxes effect NIL with prospects? Itd be an interesting podcast on Miamis NIL advantages and disadvantages. Seems to me higher taxed states prospects would want to come to Florida schools.

It helps when we are trying to flip a kid like Stubbs from USC.

Gus Edward’s, while not as productive at Miami he still went on to be very productive in the nfl and graduated from Miami
I thought he left Miami to go to Rutgers his Senior year? Did he not graduate from Rutgers and went to the NFL and then got his degree from Miami while in the NFL??

Well done sir! Some of our greatest players over the years were from OOS-Especially gems like Maryland and Kennedy-Nobody knew nothing about them we found them developed them the rest is history.

Money has a lot to do with it-Especially in coaching -The pay for coaches down here absolutely sucks-The stipend these guys receive to give up their time is a disgrace I don’t blame them for leaving going out of state for better paying jobs.

Most football players, especially out of state guys who don’t go home as much complete their bachelor’s program in three years or slightly more. They often take classes in both summer terms.

To be honest Miami has a better shot getting elite kids outside of South Florida anyway. I’ve seen that elite elite kids down here want to get away far too often. We’ve been almost 0 for all of them since Coker

I think it's a culture thing.

To me, other cultures, especially nationally, are changing and it's hard for a Florida kid to mesh with that.

Cormani to Colorado? Chubba Purdy to Florida State? I called these mis-fits from the jump.

Foremost, I think a kid has to go where he feels comfortable/confident within himself.

On the bolded i would be recruiting this kid...

Speaking of the west his twitter says he transferred to Miami Northwestern.

I was posting about how few South Florida kids there were in the Top 50, 100 and 200. It's really amazing relative to previous classes. Yet as you say, Mario keeps crushing it in recruiting. If anything, his recruiting is getting stronger. Imagine how dominant we will become when the local football factories produce at their historic levels?!

If we were winning with the NIL program we have in place now, we get over half those recruits. Plus another 50 you didn't list.

A lot of these kids did not want to go away just to go away. Our program had no stability or execution. Plus there were self-inflicted wounds in a few of these cases too.
