I'll trust your knowledge of LW payouts because I just go off what I find here. Also not going to get into it a out the college credit because useless to go back and forth, but I know it's possible to get credit off one position consistently because I've seen it happen, just not with LW/NIL. Either way, thanks for the clarification on the LW pay structure.

No problem, I know I get very technical about the rules sometime, so I'll be more understanding. You raised some innovative ideas that, for this situation, are not very practical. But, yes, I have worked in situations where I've seen some creativity on "payroll". Not going to get too detailed, I tend to focus on income tax, transaction tax, and property tax...I try to let ADP figure out all the payroll tax crap, but I keep getting dragged back in...

I agree with your point, but what's being suggested wouldn't involve a civil audit but rather a criminal investigation. Willfulness and intent make a clear distinction between the two.

An incredibly good point. Neither the IRS nor the states are very happy with the "Skyler White audit defense", particularly when it comes to payroll taxes. Just re-watched that episode recently...

You guys are confusing the **** out of the student visa/ work authorization issue.
1, Alinen necessarily has a student (F) visa already as a high schooler.
2, He is enrolled in a SEVIS-certified school. That part is fine. But his visa is tied to the school. UM is SEVIS-certified, but it's not the school on the visa. In any case, the school itself is a red herring here.
3, the issue is how to get him paid. As I alluded in previous posts, once he's in college, he can get OPT work. This might be how Hedley is getting paid. Or Ruiz might have set up an international sponsoring entity. I have no information on that, and I've never worked on this issue. NIL is like a year old; so, any approaches here are innovative.
4, if anyone can figure out how to do this right, it's Ruiz. But the biggest obstacle will be the time it takes to get things through USCIS. I don't know whether premium processing would be available; it depends on the approach.

You are correct, the "general" concept of immigration was raised, when that isn't really the issue. It's more of a tax situation, and I think everyone has done a great job of talking that through AND realizing that the best solution is the Hedley-Omier solution.

Which is also a heckuva solution when dealing with recruits in the dozen or so states that allow compensation for high schoolers.

It's a versatile and nifty tool.

The internal buzz on Tyler Van Dyke is off the charts. He is insanely competitive and has been smoking people in offseason drills while letting them know about it.

You sir must be on a first name basis with an IRS auditor, because if you do business with that same methodology your gonna get busted my friend. Because what would you suggested would never pass the NCAA the smell test.

Go Canes
I am on a first name basis with an IRS auditor, a supervisor no less. The IRS is concerned that taxes are paid on all income whether legally or illegally obtained. (If illegal they'll refer it to the Treasury department, FBI, DEA, or relevant agency for prosecution). Tax evasion crimes are specific to the process of preparing tax returns. If taxes are paid, they wouldn't be involved.

The NCAA is another thing. The SCOTUS already ruled it against anti-trust laws by restricting student athlete from compensation for name, image or likeness. Several states have enacted their own laws. The NCAA is still figuring this out, hence their inquiry with Ruiz. Knowing their attitude about Miami, it was not only fact finding but included any sniffing around for any gotcha's that can use against us. For Miami, it's best to play it by the book according to Fla law. There isn't a **** thing the NCAA could do about it.

- Expect to see a lot of Crystal Balls flipping in the NIL era. Players have NIL agents, some of whom represent multiple targets at once, and these situations are even more fluid than in the past. The NIL agents are also the sources for many recruiting writers, which explains a lot of the back and forth. This is a big week for Miami and each battle is ongoing.

- The name I feel best about is LB Malik Bryant (Orlando). He wants to be in Miami. Not a done deal but we are in good shape. Edgerrin James is a mentor for Bryant and is involved in the recruitment.

- As I mentioned last week, Ohio State is making a major run at S Jayden Bonsu (Hillside, NJ). We felt good last week, probably closer to 50/50 now. My sources believe he is slightly leaning to Miami all things being equal but it is an ongoing process with multiple factors.

- We are still alive for OL Olaus Alinen (Finland). Last week, the word out of his camp was Miami. The tone has shifted to Alabama but the battle is raging and he is still engaged.

- Don't close the door on OL Payton Kirkland (Orlando). There is a lot of mutual interest. I continue to expect Tommy Kinsler (Ocala) in this class. The optimism at OL remains very strong.

- Miami continues to have positive conversations with WR Hykeem Williams (Stranahan). That's a battle and we have some momentum. At the same time, WR William Fowles (Dade Christian) is really picking up steam with every strong off-season performance. He has size, speed, plucks the ball and has a great attitude. I wonder if he's this years Santonio Holmes or TY Hilton- local guy who badly wants to be part of a big WR class. I expect our class to finish with 2/3 of Williams, Fowles and Andy Jean.

- My sources have never had a great feeling about S Joenel Aguero (Lynn, MA), but he is admittedly hard to read.

- RB Chris Johnson Jr. (Dillard) is leaning hard to the Canes but his dad wants him to go through the process, which is understandable. We need to keep the social media love going there. He is a huge target with big national programs in pursuit.

- Aside from the announcements, we are in a calm before the storm. Many folks are on vacation. The July 30th cookout will be huge in identifying the realistic targets for a close. That should kick off the next sprint of commitments.

- The Gators are feeling desperate with their class and making reckless, naive moves in South Florida. Many are skeptical of Florida's staff and their occasionally amateurish approach.

- I've mentioned these names before, but the smoke remains very real with '24 CB Desmond Ricks (IMG), WR JoJo Trader (Chaminade) and WR Jeremiah Smith (Chaminade). If we are able to lock them up early, we could be looking at a Big 3 that builds momentum for a #1 overall type class. All three of those guys are top 10 overall talents in their class, and another Top 10 player (LB TJ Capers) is from Cristobal's alma mater and has already been on campus multiple times.

- The internal buzz on Tyler Van Dyke is off the charts. He is insanely competitive and has been smoking people in offseason drills while letting them know about it. He is more vocal than QB D'Eriq King, who was a great leader in his own right. He's exactly the kind of tone setter we need in the Cristobal era. A source on the offensive side of the ball said that QB Jacurri Brown has "special gifts and the right mindset." The key for him, like many QBs with the gift of speed, is going through his progressions and taking easy completions on time.
As in Jarren Williams smoking?

I couldn’t imagine the ******* beating I would have got from my old man if I would have been chasing money & ****ing coaches around as a 17 year old kid. I guess respect & being a stand-up guy is just a dead thing in todays world.
I’d put more blame on the actual parents. They are almost worse than the kids.
