Simple fix is for one of Alinen's parents to get a NIL deal (which has nothing to do with either Olaus or the University of Miami). Olaus can be a student and come to the University of Miami on a student visa. If someone like LifeWallet wants to enter a NIL deal or a sponsorship deal with one of his parents, that's not the University's business or the NCAA's business.

You sir must be on a first name basis with an IRS auditor, because if you do business with that same methodology your gonna get busted my friend. Because what you suggested would never pass the NCAA the smell test.

Go Canes

I agree with your point, but what's being suggested wouldn't involve a civil audit but rather a criminal investigation. Willfulness and intent make a clear distinction between the two.

Um a student choc full of international students is gonna have an issue with this kid. In fact my little cousin who is 17 and not a us citizen is signed sealed and delivered to um and starting in august...not even close to any hiccups yet
Think it’s a nil situation probably similar to hedley if u remember his situation for a while since Miami does nil by the book

On Olaus

One of us needs to marry him

and we need to prove the marriage was consummated

Can’t they film NIL stuff in Finland like they did in Canada and Australia to offset that?

If you can't work and make money HERE - then that sounds like a very workable option.

Send a film crew to Finland - do the shoots, some green-screen shots - and our Finnish team member is NOT and DID NOT work in the US. Transfers of money for USING shots filmed in Finland - go to his own account in his home country - and that too, is none of US Immigration business, nor Florida NIL laws.

Us Immigration laws don't delve into legal activities in one's own nation.

If we go to Finland and do shoots with the Finnish Bikini Team - advertising our business HERE in the US - it's nobody's business. You're just showing the international appeal of LifeWallet.

Be sure to shoot outside - with known Finnish structures in the background - and he can even mention, "I'm a Finn, and I find LifeWallet very useful here, and also when I go to school in America. LifeWallet - Don't leave home without it!"

The problem is not being here, it's getting paid for doing a job. The fact that a lot of international kids are at UM is not relevant.

LifeWallet puts kids on payroll as independent contractors. With a student Visa you can work at the institution that is sponsoring your Visa but that's typically it. A few exceptions exist. One of them is that the place you are working for is part of an externship where you get school credit for the work. UM could easily do that for a LifeWallet NIL.

If on an F Visa, you only work off campus if approved on a case by case basis, with exceptions only granted for financial hardship or special student relief. There is a negative 1000000% chance that the USCIS would approve a request for Alinen to be an independent contractor for Lifewallet. A big reason Ruiz has zero NCAA worries is that all the athletes are independent contractors and it's not considered an inducement to go to UM.

The only way Alinen could get around the F visa work requirement is for UMs international student office to certify the Lifewallet employment is related to his education, but then he wouldn't be an independent contractor. That wouldn't work for Ruiz but FAR more importantly, there is a good chance that it would bring the federal government into the mix, looking into visa fraud. Trying to skirt student Visa laws could be a federal crime plus get Ruiz barred from ever working with UM athletes. And the same analysis applies to the poster who suggested that Ruiz sign a Lifewallet deal with Alinens parents instead. USCIS isn't stupid. Yeah they are overworked, but student visa fraud is really low hanging fruit and easy to spot. They'd sniff it out immediately.

At the very least, Alinen would have his visa revoked, and again, that is risking multiple parties getting charged with federal crimes.

As @Cribby said, Baga just does it the old school way - bags. And thanks to the wonders of the internet, Baga can just use untraceable cryptocurrencies to send payments overseas. DHS and FBI dont give a **** about crypto payments from a Bama booster to a Finland-based bitcoin account. Chances of getting caught doing it the Baga way are virtually NIL ;)

- Expect to see a lot of Crystal Balls flipping in the NIL era. Players have NIL agents, some of whom represent multiple targets at once, and these situations are even more fluid than in the past. The NIL agents are also the sources for many recruiting writers, which explains a lot of the back and forth. This is a big week for Miami and each battle is ongoing.

- The name I feel best about is LB Malik Bryant (Orlando). He wants to be in Miami. Not a done deal but we are in good shape. Edgerrin James is a mentor for Bryant and is involved in the recruitment.

- As I mentioned last week, Ohio State is making a major run at S Jayden Bonsu (Hillside, NJ). We felt good last week, probably closer to 50/50 now. My sources believe he is slightly leaning to Miami all things being equal but it is an ongoing process with multiple factors.

- We are still alive for OL Olaus Alinen (Finland). Last week, the word out of his camp was Miami. The tone has shifted to Alabama but the battle is raging and he is still engaged.

- Don't close the door on OL Payton Kirkland (Orlando). There is a lot of mutual interest. I continue to expect Tommy Kinsler (Ocala) in this class. The optimism at OL remains very strong.

- Miami continues to have positive conversations with WR Hykeem Williams (Stranahan). That's a battle and we have some momentum. At the same time, WR William Fowles (Dade Christian) is really picking up steam with every strong off-season performance. He has size, speed, plucks the ball and has a great attitude. I wonder if he's this years Santonio Holmes or TY Hilton- local guy who badly wants to be part of a big WR class. I expect our class to finish with 2/3 of Williams, Fowles and Andy Jean.

- My sources have never had a great feeling about S Joenel Aguero (Lynn, MA), but he is admittedly hard to read.

- RB Chris Johnson Jr. (Dillard) is leaning hard to the Canes but his dad wants him to go through the process, which is understandable. We need to keep the social media love going there. He is a huge target with big national programs in pursuit.

- Aside from the announcements, we are in a calm before the storm. Many folks are on vacation. The July 30th cookout will be huge in identifying the realistic targets for a close. That should kick off the next sprint of commitments.

- The Gators are feeling desperate with their class and making reckless, naive moves in South Florida. Many are skeptical of Florida's staff and their occasionally amateurish approach.

- I've mentioned these names before, but the smoke remains very real with '24 CB Desmond Ricks (IMG), WR JoJo Trader (Chaminade) and WR Jeremiah Smith (Chaminade). If we are able to lock them up early, we could be looking at a Big 3 that builds momentum for a #1 overall type class. All three of those guys are top 10 overall talents in their class, and another Top 10 player (LB TJ Capers) is from Cristobal's alma mater and has already been on campus multiple times.

- The internal buzz on Tyler Van Dyke is off the charts. He is insanely competitive and has been smoking people in offseason drills while letting them know about it. He is more vocal than QB D'Eriq King, who was a great leader in his own right. He's exactly the kind of tone setter we need in the Cristobal era. A source on the offensive side of the ball said that QB Jacurri Brown has "special gifts and the right mindset." The key for him, like many QBs with the gift of speed, is going through his progressions and taking easy completions on time.
This is good stuff man we cookin.....the future looks bright. Natty within 5 years is not in doubt

You guys are confusing the **** out of the student visa/ work authorization issue.
1, Alinen necessarily has a student (F) visa already as a high schooler.
2, He is enrolled in a SEVIS-certified school. That part is fine. But his visa is tied to the school. UM is SEVIS-certified, but it's not the school on the visa. In any case, the school itself is a red herring here.
3, the issue is how to get him paid. As I alluded in previous posts, once he's in college, he can get OPT work. This might be how Hedley is getting paid. Or Ruiz might have set up an international sponsoring entity. I have no information on that, and I've never worked on this issue. NIL is like a year old; so, any approaches here are innovative.
4, if anyone can figure out how to do this right, it's Ruiz. But the biggest obstacle will be the time it takes to get things through USCIS. I don't know whether premium processing would be available; it depends on the approach.

I wrote this before I saw the posts from @CanesFiend and @TimeBum
You guys are not who my "You guys" was addressed to.

That’s what they did for other athletes. Lifewallet went to Canada and Australia to shoot content with other guys. I don’t see how going to Finland would be different.

Agreed. Except maybe they are afraid of the Russians, now that Finland is applying for NATO membership? Who knows.

@DMoney

I had to attend a funeral and stopped off in Hinesville, GA for the night. Next morning, I'm staggering out the door to get myself and the wife some coffee, and I'm wearing my Polo with the embroidered "U" on the pocket location.

Hadn't even turned around to walk - and "Hey! Is that your team?" This guy spotted that U and seemed pleased to say, "Man, you guys are kicking it - hard!"
Then for the next two or three minutes talked all excited about Miami.

I got away from him, approached the Lobby, but before getting there, a woman asked, "Is Miami your team?" I couldn't believe it and after acknowledging the same, she said, "Miami is my son's very favorited team! He wants to go there!" A man walks out of the Lobby door, sees us talking, and jumps in talking about UM!

I'm dying for coffee - and if I don't get some soon - I'll have to pour the first one down the front of my shorts for full effect - but it was fascinating that I ended up talking about Hurricanes Football to four different people - and I haven't even gotten my first cup!

This occurred in GEORGIA! I brought a few of those shirts - and all I can say is that for whatever reason - lots of people are talking about Miami - and not from your typical sports-nuts. Regular people!

I've been dying slowly over the past 20 years to watch our program degrade - but guys - something is going on!
