Man have to know its pointless crying. Cristobal is not gonna have us be like what Mich St did, Deieon is doing, FSU is doing or Lincoln Riley is now. He built that Oregon roster from a 4-8 team to 12 wins, bad competition or no. He wants us to be like Ohio St, Bama, UGA even Clemson. Where every season them man basically have 10 wins in the bag. Those teams are not bringing in a ton of Portal players. I prefer to build through high school and if we have to pay big money, pay it to those kids after they been on the roster. Then u can pick and choose in the portal. FSU went from a laughing stock to a model to man in 12 months. U people are jokes. Props to them but they aint no model to emulate. Sorry. Also as money becomes more a factor, character recruiting matters more.
they were 7-5 when Mario took over. they were not 4-8.

Then they'll claim they're just balancing the narrative.
As if the Corch Norvell narrative needs to be balanced. If LSU makes a PAT and Louisville doesn't pull a Louisville and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, they go 8-4 in their proof-of-concept year.

Yeah, they kicked our *** last year. Ok... Everyone needs an ***-kicking sometime. Get up and start working so you are more prepared for the next fight (or, get on your knees and start blowing the guy - I guess that's another option).

Then they'll claim they're just balancing the narrative.
I’m right here if you’d like to debate the facts.

You’d be hard pressed to find somebody who dislikes that program more than me. However, I’m not blind, ignorant or obtuse like others.

I am not saying they are a better program. I am not saying they have a better staff or possess better athletes. I am not saying they have a better NIL program, etc.

What I am saying is those of you who continue to dismiss f$u and push some narrative that they still suck and will always suck and have no money, etc. are viewing the world thru orange & green colore glasses.

It’s incredible. They literally want Miami to overpay for every player like USC is. A strategy that nearly every elite program doesn’t do. I know Miami isn’t going to do that.

I get what you're saying and agree with you for the most part. But, would it also be fair to say that Miami is not an elite program right now and that the current elite programs don't have to overpay for players because they've spent so much previously that they're almost self perpetuating now? I'm saying that bama became elite by buying up players left and right for several years while other teams weren't. They were the cream of the crop and only recently have been toppled because uga started buying up players left and right. I would have to assume that uga over paid for the players they beat bama out for. The only way to take players from elite teams is to overpay for them? You get the players you need to win games no matter the cost. Then when you're winning games and putting lots of players in the league you have something to offer other than just NIL. It's not the best deal but it does seem like a shortcut for a coach that really needs to win now. Maybe Mario doesn't feel the urgency that riley or norvell feel? I'm sure you know more about it than I do but whatever we paid TVD to stay, would it be fair to say we overpaid?

Everything you say is true.

But the earlier Portal successes are relevant to point out that Mario has done well in the Portal. He may not be "Top 5" in the Portal over the last 2 years, but he also didn't suddenly forget what he's doing these past few weeks.

Some people (not you) are using an overly small data pool (13 days of post-spring Portal period 2023) and coming up with sweeping generalizations and hot-takes about how bad Mario is at this "Portal Kombat" (hopefully people realize my usage of that term is a specific mocking of Gaytor fans).

I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised soon. They may not admit it, and they may not change their narratives, but still...

Why do you think people won’t admit to being pleasantly surprised?

If Mario adequately fills the gaps, I think many will be happy. Some of those may want to see the results on the field before celebrating. Seems fair enough.

We lucked into TVD playing out if his mind in 21. And still won those 7 games by a combined like 10 points. How easily could 7-5 turn into 4-8 with a few plays in all those close games. TVD was the lipstick on a big fat nasty pig.

He’s still lipstick on a nasty pig. Expensive lipstick at that. The point is 1 team got better and 1 team had their worst season in decades and we’re the wrong one of those …

We were also 7 points away from having 3 more wins that year.

The record was what it was. It wasn't we were almost 5-7 or worse anymore than it was 10-2.

Also and not at you, high character kids is just some feel good **** people say to ease their mental fragility when we get tossed on landing who we really want. You poll any team in the land, 90 percent or even more will say their team is full of high character guys. Good people of not good players.

Now I know everyone wants to let him work through recruiting, but that is going to fly out the window if he doesn't do something on the field this year. Say he does, we better have a nice war chest set aside to keep our players since in this new age, if someone else is offering and we don't meet or beat them, they're gone. If we don't win, the guys we expect to be players will go somewhere else they can win.

In no universe would that team have been 10-2. Meanwhile, we could have been 4-8 or even 3-7. Most years, Virginia Tech and Virginia would have beaten us the way we played. I think it's unrealistic to assume we're better than a mediocre team right now despite the off season upgrades to date. And we're 2-3 years out from having a team we can be confident will hit double digit wins.

That said, I do agree that coaches were a huge factor in the losses, not just poor play and holdover bad culture. And we need to show progress on the field.

Highest spending club in the world since 2011.
So they spent a **** load between 2011-2016, cause over the last 5 years from what I seen they are only like 10th in EPL net spending. And over last 5 years they’ve won the league 4/5 times. While from 2011-2016 they won 2/5.
