We didn't win the ACC with a Heisman finalist, Davey O'Brien winner & probably a top 3 draft pick.

We're absolutely 100% unequivocally not winning it with Emory at QB.

He's simply not the answer.

And yes I can and am saying that 100% right now & I don't need to see him play next year to come to that conclusion.

He ain't got it. No matter how hard yall want him to have it, it's not there. Small sample size, or large, he's not IT.
Next year and this year are different. By that logic we will never win the ACC or make the CFP... Makes zero sense.
If you want to say we wouldn't win BECAUSE OF Emory, ok.
But we can win the ACC with a better defense - or **** just getting a bit luckier with creating turnovers - and a worse Qb than Cam Ward. Clemson just did it.

I remember being in a place last year (wont say where I was) where the coronation of Poff and how great he was by some people had me feeling dirty (pause). I went home and immediately took a shower.

Here we are again, 1 year later with Emory.
I'm glad you were able to forget about how greatly Tyler was able to pick up the playbook. How Dawson and Tyler were on the same page.

strangely enough, that doesn't make me worried. Nickel looks like a gamer and I don't think he'd be worse than Emory was in his first game.
That's an extremely low bar though. Emory completed just 2 passes of15+ yards (16 & 25 yds) and averaged 4.6 ypa in the Clemson game. The FSU game was similarly not great, save for a couple of miraculous catch-and-runs by George.

Just a general response to anyone here entertaining the notion of Emory as our starting QB next year: Buy some Pepto-Bismol and watch us on offense in those two games. That's what he's shown here. Ball State doesn't matter. They were nearly as bad as FAMU and they had had the crap beaten out of them for 3+ quarters.

Could he have gotten better since then? Yes, and for his sake I hope he has.

I know the insiders are singing in unison that if we miss on Mateer the coaches are confident in rolling with Emory, but I refuse to believe this is true. If we don't get Mateer, our starting QB next year will still come from the portal. Happy to make a bet with someone, and if I'm wrong I'll do something very embarrassing. (Edit: Money fine too up to $1k. You win if we don't get Mateer and our starting QB against ND is Emory/Judd/Nickel. I win if we don't get Mateer and our starting QB against ND comes from the portal. Null when we get Mateer in a week or two)

The staff is holding the QB process very close to the vest this year. My best read is as follows: they believe they can win games with Emory, he'll have every chance to compete, but they will aggressively monitor the Portal. Read into that what you will.

GTFOH…. This staff struggled to win the with #1 offense in America. You’ll win this 4 to 5 games with Emory.

Defense is prob going to be bad again next year also.
We need a mobile passer who survive aggressive D. Emory, Judd are good kids, but not to win 10! Also please NOT Mendoza!

Fix the f***** defense and you can put DVD back there. Get that side of the ball figured out will help immensely on the offensive side of the ball, no matter who's taking the snaps

I want Mateer too but the fact that the majority of yall are incapable of understanding that a kid can get better is one of the funniest things I see on this board annually.

Can this team with the ACC with 2023 Emory Williams? Obviously not. Can they win it with 2025 Emory Williams? Maybe. I can’t say yes or no, because the kid could (and should, and probably IS) be significantly better than the last time anyone saw him play.

To me, the real question starts on defense. Y’all are focusing on the wrong ****. Cam Ward couldn’t win the ACC with the 2024 defense. So who cares if it’s Emory or anyone else in 2025? If the defense isn’t a lot better, it doesn’t matter.
I hear you bro but he didn’t show anything that would indicate he’s a P5 QB. Arm talent is average and not mobile. Just the reality. Tough kid and he’s a Cane so I’ll root for him

I agree if we miss out on Mateer we will bring in someone else

I like Emory and he’s a good kid to have on the depth chart (especially these days) but even if they were sky high on him it would be a terrible idea

Can’t see that happening

What do you think of these 2 to add

All conference usa

I wanna say Guidry recruited him to Marshall originally. Dont know their current relationship. But he should be a 1 year rental on the cheap that may know the defense already. I know at FIU the games i watched he was a for sure tackler and is built well.

Would have to be a medical check he didnt play this year.

has reps at nickel and deep safety. I could get contact for this one so if anyone could get it to coaches/
Jojo Evans.. I liked him when he left Kent State. Can’t believe he’s still around and has eligibility

Took a long look at Stroman because it sounded familiar and then realized he’s the younger brother of Greg Stroman. I really liked Greg as a player. VT does very well with brothers of former players and they’re usually good. Apparently had labrum surgery.

If Mendoza can bring a floor of 9 wins, that's good for me, but he can't. Neither can Emory. It's probably like Emory floor 6 wins, Mendoza 7 wins. If they juice the he'll out of every other position and land great CBs, we could bump to a 9 win floor with Mendoza. I am not anti 9 wins. I would take 9 season wins next year. But **** no to 8. That would be pure misery. All I want is 9 plus wins for 10 straight years please. Gimme a few ACC Chmpionships, a run or 2 deep in the playoff and I am fine. Let the embarrassments stop, for the love of God make them stop. No more 5-7 or 6-6 forever. I can't take that anymore.
