You’re judging that off his true freshman year, his recruiting ranking, or what you were told? I want a portal QB, full stop. But I’m not gonna write the kid off based off what I saw in 2023. I’m not gonna say I’m sold either, obviously. But he was an underdeveloped true freshman playing against the 2 best defenses we saw all year. I’ll be very interested to hear the no bull**** reports from the spring on him. I don’t think he has Cam’s ability in his range of outcomes, but I’m not convinced he’s incapable of winning games here. Cade Klubnik just won the ACC for Clemson and that kid was hot garbage as a freshman. And before people jump on that comment, yes we should be aiming to have a better player at that spot than a kid like Klubnik.
I'm judging based off what I've seen with my own two eyes from every snap he's played.

Unfortunately, you're not going to hear any no bullshxt reports in the Spring about him. In fact, I would wager all the reports you'll hear & read will be complete bullshxt.

Sure he could be the QB of the team & theoretically win games, but I'm almost certain were he to be the starter we're not winning more than 8 & I bet money Vegas would agree.

These are the spots I was led to believe we are looking for sure starters(2 weeks ago) at C, Slot, DT, LB, Nickel and Free. Bringing in more to compete. If some of those start, others will leave. As D mentioned if Mesidor leaves, I believe we look for a starting DE. Obviously, if Mateer hit the portal and came here, he starts.

Meh. It’s pretty clear we’re hoping to enter the Mateer sweepstakes. It seems like staff is divided as to whether guys like Mendoza represent a real upgrade over Emory. Or whether that money is better used on rolling with Emory and the supporting cast.
If you look at Mendoza's stats, they are very similar to Cam's in his last year at Wash st before coming over here. Just saying.

What this season should’ve taught us is a great offense can overcome the worst defense I’ve ever watched Miami trot out on the field to the tune of 10 wins and being right on the cusp of the playoffs.

But hey let’s try to fix the defense instead and toss a game manager at QB. Then everyone can get their wish and we just turn into Cal.

Gonna agree to disagree...this year taught us you need a balanced team. None of the QB's left in the playoffs are better than Cam.....but every single one of those teams are more balanced offensive/defensively than we were.

If you HAVE to choose...you take an Emory with a great secondary as opposed to a Cam with a garbage one.

What in god’s name has Emory done to make some of you think he can even be a Will Howard or Klubnik level QB, I am so lost.
Wtf has Klubnik done before this year. There’s this thing called improvement. Maybe you should trust the OC that developed Clayton Tune, Geno smith, Nick Mullins, and D’Eriq King might know a thing or 2 about QBs

I want Mateer too but the fact that the majority of yall are incapable of understanding that a kid can get better is one of the funniest things I see on this board annually.

Can this team with the ACC with 2023 Emory Williams? Obviously not. Can they win it with 2025 Emory Williams? Maybe. I can’t say yes or no, because the kid could (and should, and probably IS) be significantly better than the last time anyone saw him play.

To me, the real question starts on defense. Y’all are focusing on the wrong ****. Cam Ward couldn’t win the ACC with the 2024 defense. So who cares if it’s Emory or anyone else in 2025? If the defense isn’t a lot better, it doesn’t matter.
Transitive property never works in football. We could have the '85 Bears defense but if we don't have a competent QB it's null and void. It's not an either or discussion.

Emmanuel K is purely a measurables eval.

It is just simply not possible to watch multiple games of his & come away with the thought that he's anything more than a backup depth player.

IDGAF who else is offering or after him.

MIAMI needs CB's who can COVER, first & foremost, everything else be damned.

It's good they're throwing numbers at the CB problem, they have no other option but to go scorched Earth, but let's not put lipstick on a Pig here.
We hyped Jadais Richard last cycle as a CB1 type too... thank you for your honesty.

We didn't win the ACC with a Heisman finalist, Davey O'Brien winner & probably a top 3 draft pick.

We're absolutely 100% unequivocally not winning it with Emory at QB.

He's simply not the answer.

And yes I can and am saying that 100% right now & I don't need to see him play next year to come to that conclusion.

He ain't got it. No matter how hard yall want him to have it, it's not there. Small sample size, or large, he's not IT.

True.
Defense is the number one indicator of success. 7 of the Playoff teams have a defense rank in the top ten in yds/play.

Looking at Offense. Only 3 playoff teams are in the top ten.

Last year Mich had the best Def and they won it all.

Always bet on a good D to beat a good O.

This is such stupid logic. You could hope for improvement from any qb in the country, but if they’ve shown nothing to warrant that then that’s all you’re doing. Hoping.

Emory has a mediocre arm with a low and slow release. He doesn’t move well (being generous here). He couldn’t carry a team in a fairly mediocre class and district of Florida football to a winning season in either of his years there. Wins aren’t a QB stat but if you’re going to be a P4 starter you should be able to win 6 ******* games in that district.

Klubnik is a good athlete with an above average arm who was a big time winner in one of Texas’ toughest classifications. He hasn’t lived up to being a top 10 prospect in the country but there are reasons he was seen that way.
