The Bank (12/13)

If we don’t look that means he’s good enough. Unless we need a back up too.

I’d guess we aren’t looking for a right tackle.

I’m starting to think we are not going to like this portal class…
I think it’s trending to end up pretty **** good with good top end players. Less quantity more quality

I’m skeptical on QB and DT. Those 2 will be the ones to watch to determine how good it will be and probably what our season really hinges on, which isn’t ideal.

I’m like what are people looking at? We have some
Top talent at Wr and DB coming in.

And if Mateer hits we seemingly are in position to get a visit.

Have you watched that La Tech DT Blay before ? I'd be lying if I said I heard of him before we offered.

Need a domino to fall to change my mind haha

Honestly most of the dominoes haven't fallen. The ones that have have all been teams outside the playoffs besides Oregon getting that safety. Both parties seem to be taking their time this cycle with making decisions.

I respect your opinion. But one of the biggest issues I’ve had with Miami over the past two decades is there were never any legitimate QB battles other than maybe Marve v Harris that first season. Players need to earn it.

Reasonable point on your end.

That said, see post #251.

I could also add that Emory (as a pimple-faced 18 year old) played better than TVD in 2023.

Come on now, SF, you cannot possibly say that Emory is a playoff caliber QB because he beat out Jacurri, Poff and TVD (after they had to bench him for throwing more passes to the defense than the offense). That's like saying let's ride with Jared Williams because he beat out Perry and Martell. Now if Emory beats out a guy like Mateer, he'll have my attention.

My "guess" is coaches think he's better than Mensah, which is why they didn't pursue. On the other hand, they are still apparently talking Mendoza, so they may think Emory isn't as good as him. That's roughly the ceiling I see for him, though I don't see practices, so maybe he's broken out. Coaches' actions suggest he's in that range, though.

I want Mateer too but the fact that the majority of yall are incapable of understanding that a kid can get better is one of the funniest things I see on this board annually.

Can this team with the ACC with 2023 Emory Williams? Obviously not. Can they win it with 2025 Emory Williams? Maybe. I can’t say yes or no, because the kid could (and should, and probably IS) be significantly better than the last time anyone saw him play.

To me, the real question starts on defense. Y’all are focusing on the wrong ****. Cam Ward couldn’t win the ACC with the 2024 defense. So who cares if it’s Emory or anyone else in 2025? If the defense isn’t a lot better, it doesn’t matter.

Did he look like he got better? Or did he look exactly how he looked against FSU last year? What confidence do we have that he will be significantly better against a defense like Notre Dame in 9 months?

The answers are:

No
Yes
Zero

I know you did not say for a matter of fact that he would improve. But you had a question about everyone seemingly predicting that he didn’t get ANY better. Well, I hope that answered that. And apparently, Dawson doesn’t think much different.

Beck gets hurt - back up steps in and runs the offense.
Mateer transfers - back up steps in and runs the offense.
Cam sits in the second half - Emory looks like we got him from the Dr. Pepper half time contest

If FSU had a QB room of Emory, Judd and a true freshman we'd be clowning the **** out of them.

If Wake Forest had a QB room of Emory, Judd and a true freshman, we'd be talking about the 21 point spread.

Some of you have convinced yourselves that Emory is automatically better because he's been here for 2 years. Meanwhile everybody else who hasn't seen the field yet is a bum.

Why is Emory the chosen one to y'all? Is it stubbornness? It **** sure isn't his film. He didn't flash in high school. He hasn't done **** yet.

The worst part is y'all keep talking about spending on the rest of the roster. Who their right mind is gonna come to Miami to catch passes from Emory ****** Williams?!

We're gonna have to overpay. So that savings y'all keep hyping.. its a mirage. There won't be any savings if we're stuck paying an Emory tax.
Since we're bumping old posts..

I only questioned it because it’s the Hurricane fan way to say he sucks because everyone sucks on this board. But yeah everyone who said he ain’t it is right on this one. He ain’t it. I simply said I wanted to see him play to see whether or not he could get the job done. Tons of kids, literally tons, have looked how he looked against fsu last year and been good players after a year or two of development and improvement. I wanted to see if he was one of those, or if what we saw is who he is. I’m glad we got the answer tonight.
