There was only one name I heard that was supposed to be kept quiet. I haven’t heard anything on Hayes.

what’s the context on Judd catching a game winning td pass? Was it a ripped pass by the dl he caught and ran in, a trick play from wildcat/ wr pass play, does he play wr and they have another QB?

Thx

They ran a reverse in the red zone to 4* WR Isiah Canion, who threw it back to Judd. The defense was completely fooled on the play and Judd didn't encounter a defender until he was a yard away from the goal line, where he hurdled into the air to score (pictured below).

Judd's two touchdown passes in the second half of that game were just bubble screens that were taken for 50-yard TD's by his WR's (Canion and 3* WR Cam Flowers).

I have only heard Mario comment on conference realignment one time, and I got the sense that he wasn’t really caught up in wanting to change conferences. He said winning is what matters and some schools will find out that jumping conferences wasn’t the best idea in terms of fielding a winning football program.
Take anything said publicly about that topic with a grain of salt. I can assure you no one on campus wants to stay in the sinking ship called the ACC.

Miami was working hard in the bye week and selling a winning product. Here is the latest headed into a huge Georgia Tech game:

- Miami continues to feel great about where they stand with WR Jeremiah Smith (Chaminade). They have kept their promises on what the offense would look like. Remember, Shannon Dawson coached Jeremiah's cousin, Geno Smith. Jeremiah will be at Hard Rock for the game on Saturday to watch for himself.

- As we first reported in the Bank over a month ago, Miami has a huge grade on WR Ny Carr (Moultrie, GA). One staffer believes Carr is as good as anybody he's ever seen on WR screens. Miami will push to close the deal this weekend and they have an excellent chance.

- Miami has been making very good progress with DT LJ McCray and CB Zavier Mincey out of Dayton Beach Mainland. McCray is visiting Tallahassee this weekend on his OV, but if Miami can withstand that surge they will be in very good position. Miami also remains in very good communication with DT Artavious Jones (Blountstown), who continues to display NFL upside.

- On the negative side, DT Aydin Breland (Los Angeles) has been trending away from Miami.

- Miami made some visits during the bye week and saw some top targets up close. They loved OT Markel Bell, a 6'8.5, 340 monster from junior college. The word I heard was "freak." Miami has ties to his coaching staff and feel they have a great shot.

- Shannon Dawson was able to visit QB commit Judd Anderson (Warner Robins, GA) and came away very impressed by his arm and intangibles. Most surprising was his athleticism: he caught the game-winning pass in a comeback victory. Anything can happen, but everything I've heard is that Miami really likes Judd.

- One name to keep any eye on: DE Cole McConathy out of Mobile, AL. He is committed to Louisville but Miami feels he has enormous upside.

- Quick 2023 team note: the bye week allowed some young players to make their case for more playing time. Three to keep an eye on: RB Chris Johnson, LB Popo Aguirre and CB Jadais Richard.
Not surprised by the Breland news Dan lanning has done a good job recruiting California it’s interesting because with Lincoln Riley at USC you would the Cali kids would want to stay and go to USC but instead there going to Oregon to play for Dan.
with carr potentially being added to the class does that mean
Lawayne McCoy is no longer a flip candidate or the staff is still going to try to get him to flip

I don't think you and many others look at this in the right context. We have been recruiting elite DTs. They are rare. All you see is swing and miss. We already have Jones who is borderline elite and Russel who has upside.

There needs to be context to the misses.

We missed on Scott who wanted to come Miami, but mom wanted him close to home.

We missed on Stone who the family wants him at Miami, but he wants to be close to home at OU.

We missed on Franklin who chose Ole Miss to stay close to home.

I don't know how you blame anyone for those misses. If you want to say Joe missed and he sucks, then so do all the top schools that recruited them. Some of which didn't even get a hat on the table.

We have Blount for 2025 and maybe 2024. One more DL commitment from an upper tier DT recruit and this is a monster DL class that's already ranks #5 without Blount.

People need to have patience and perspective. This cycle isn't over. We are building.
I believe that you and others simply don’t realize that this program will not be elite and be able to compete for championships each year until Mario and Joe recruit the DT position as well as the OL position. There have been an incredible amount of misses while recruiting the position, while they still get their fair share on the OL. I believe you and others have a tough time realizing that in order to beat teams like UGA, OSU and others who have elite OL talent just like Miami you need to recruit the position better than we currently are. As it turns out they are playing whiffle ball at the position.

You are trying to preach patience and perspective, but that is specifically what you need when you finally do manage to recruit them because they don't come ready out of HS. It takes S&C and development to play the position with 320 lb OG's across from them. If you get only 1 per season you will NEVER be elite enough at the position to compete with the big boys there.

I also realize some folks hate being told the truth sometimes and that is the absolute truth on this matter. Perhaps you and others are not tracking at all on how many DTs we could lose this off-season. They have to be replaced. As you and others should have learned that you don’t get elite DT talent through the portal. It has to be recruited from HS and developed unless they somehow find a way to entice some elite DTs with NIL money to transfer to Miami. Thus far no one they enticed through the portal has been elite. Deen being the closest one but he is probably injured because he plays the position undersized. Perhaps you should go back and read our DC Guidry’s comments after the A&M game. He basically said these same things himself in coach speak. Also, go back and read Dwinstitles reply to my comments. He knows a **** of a lot more about football than you do.

On top of it all, when you are always so small and thin at the DT position they get injured and/or worn down as each and every season progresses. You should have seen that over the last 20 years of Hurricane Football if you really are the Number1CanesFan as your screen name claims.

Riley Will always have trouble with defensive recruiting. His teams don’t put them in spots to succeed

Defensive players are headed to Oregon because Lincoln Riley doesn’t have the slightest clue what defense is.

Mario is running this organization (with Alonzo’s added influence) like a pro program, and one thing you often see at the pro level is rookies starting to earn more playing time immediately after a bye.

It’s almost like the season starts, it’s warp speed, then the bye comes and they get a chance to breathe, absorb everything that happened to this point, then after the reset, the legit ones start to take off.

No surprise to me at all that D specifically mentioned a few rookies that will have snaps increased. I fully expect that to happen.
