The Bank (10/5)

Clemson turned the corner before he got there and he didn't hire Dabo so all he did was not **** it up. I guess he helped get buildings done which confuses me as he's not an architect or a brick layer as far as i know. I mean if the funding is there, im not sure what else he'd need to do.
Ok! Bs85, wat did rad do too you?

- Quick 2023 team note: the bye week allowed some young players to make their case for more playing time. Three to keep an eye on: RB Chris Johnson, LB Popo Aguirre and CB Jadais Richard.

Great positions for young guys to be showing out on Defense. CB might be the weakest position on the team right now. And LB depth is suspect, one of the freshman taking playing time from an older JAG would be a great sign.
That was be Keontra Smith. Flagg has been solid this year so no way he loses snaps. I never really considered Flagg a JAG.

We will see how Flagg does as the season goes on. So far this is the best ball he has played in his career here.
Agreed that it's the best ball he's played. He's just limited physically (too slow), i don't think he has a chance of being an nfl backer.

As an aside the standard of JAG (Just Another Guy) has changed drastically in the 12 years I've been on this site. Flagg was the definition of a JAG 12 years ago: a decent player with no nfl future, hopefully just a depth piece but a guy who isn't a major liability. Just Another Guy. = average/doesn't stand out. Nowadays we tend to label JAGs as the guys who shouldn't have gotten offers and clearly don't belong in a Power 5 program. Hoping the talent improves to the point where the acronym makes sense again.

JAG+=guy that can be a dude on any given day

Shannon Dawson was able to visit QB commit Judd Anderson (Warner Robins, GA) and came away very impressed by his arm and intangibles. Most surprising was his athleticism: he caught the game-winning pass in a comeback victory. Anything can happen, but everything I've heard is that Miami really likes Judd.
Caught? I could've thought he would have THROWN the game-winning pass in a comeback victory.

I’ve been clear on my feelings for Joe but those who use this write up to try and say how sucks doesn’t make sense. If Miami get McCray that’s a huge win if we can pair with with Blount. It would be the two best DT in the state.

Are y’all saying Joe sucks cause of Breland news? Y’all really thought Miami was going to win that battle??? Haha come on guys be real.

Coming off 5-7 and no proof of development for NFL DT and y’all thought we were about to go across the country and lane every top flight 5 star DT against the defending champs, O$U, Bama and teams like that? That’s your own faults for believing that to begin with.

Get McCray and Blount and hit the portal. He has 1 more year to prove his worth before Mario might start making moves.
How about Artavius Jones?

I don't think you and many others look at this in the right context. We have been recruiting elite DTs. They are rare. All you see is swing and miss. We already have Jones who is borderline elite and Russel who has upside.

There needs to be context to the misses.

We missed on Scott who wanted to come Miami, but mom wanted him close to home.

We missed on Stone who the family wants him at Miami, but he wants to be close to home at OU.

We missed on Franklin who chose Ole Miss to stay close to home.

I don't know how you blame anyone for those misses. If you want to say Joe missed and he sucks, then so do all the top schools that recruited them. Some of which didn't even get a hat on the table.

We have Blount for 2025 and maybe 2024. One more DL commitment from an upper tier DT recruit and this is a monster DL class that's already ranks #5 without Blount.

People need to have patience and perspective. This cycle isn't over. We are building.
This!

They ran a reverse in the red zone to 4* WR Isiah Canion, who threw it back to Judd. The defense was completely fooled on the play and Judd didn't encounter a defender until he was a yard away from the goal line, where he hurdled into the air to score (pictured below).

Judd's two touchdown passes in the second half of that game were just bubble screens that were taken for 50-yard TD's by his WR's (Canion and 3* WR Cam Flowers).

I live in Canton Illinois and have a few buddies that have 4 season tickets with Illinois each if this actually happens. If it does, I’ll try to hook you guys up with tickets if you need them
Un Cubiche en Chicago (Canton). Dale!

I believe that you and others simply don’t realize that this program will not be elite and be able to compete for championships each year until Mario and Joe recruit the DT position as well as the OL position. There have been an incredible amount of misses while recruiting the position, while they still get their fair share on the OL. I believe you and others have a tough time realizing that in order to beat teams like UGA, OSU and others who have elite OL talent just like Miami you need to recruit the position better than we currently are. As it turns out they are playing whiffle ball at the position.

You are trying to preach patience and perspective, but that is specifically what you need when you finally do manage to recruit them because they don't come ready out of HS. It takes S&C and development to play the position with 320 lb OG's across from them. If you get only 1 per season you will NEVER be elite enough at the position to compete with the big boys there.

I also realize some folks hate being told the truth sometimes and that is the absolute truth on this matter. Perhaps you and others are not tracking at all on how many DTs we could lose this off-season. They have to be replaced. As you and others should have learned that you don’t get elite DT talent through the portal. It has to be recruited from HS and developed unless they somehow find a way to entice some elite DTs with NIL money to transfer to Miami. Thus far no one they enticed through the portal has been elite. Deen being the closest one but he is probably injured because he plays the position undersized. Perhaps you should go back and read our DC Guidry’s comments after the A&M game. He basically said these same things himself in coach speak. Also, go back and read Dwinstitles reply to my comments. He knows a **** of a lot more about football than you do.

On top of it all, when you are always so small and thin at the DT position they get injured and/or worn down as each and every season progresses. You should have seen that over the last 20 years of Hurricane Football if you really are the Number1CanesFan as your screen name claims.
I completely understand the type of recruits needed to build a championship program. Your response has zero to do with my statement.

My response was in reference to the recruiting blame game. To your point, DT is the hardest position to recruit because there are only a few who are elite each year and every top progrom wants them. So, blaming a coach for an elite miss is overblown. There are 9 other top 10 teams that failed.

We were in it all the way with 3 top DTs that committed to local schools. On top of that, 2 of the 3 either wanted to go to UM, or the family wanted to them go to UM.

I don't see recruiting losses to the home schools as failures. If Franklin had chose Auburn, then that's a failure. Losing our home grown recruits to FSU, UF, and OoS schools is a failure.

Fans have gotten spoiled very quickly because Mario was able to get 2 of the best OT in the 2023 cycle. They expect the same on the defensive side of the ball which doesn't make sense. The need is there and they're trying to get them, but the expectation to land 5-stsrs across the DL is unrealistic especially now that a lot of schools got their NIL up to par where as in the 2023 cycle. UM had a clear advantage.

Just because the DT position has not been elite in 20 yesrs, shouldn't create an expectation to be eilite overnight. At any other fanbase with that mentality is laughable. Si, your team was getting 3-star DTs for 20 years. You just had a 5-7 record last year. Now, you expect 5-stars at DT this cycle? Uh, OK.

My whole point is that it's going to take time and expectations should be realistic. You expect elite recruiting st DT after a 5-7 season. It was an uphill battle to begin with.

The recruiting wins at other positions were in spite of our horrible 2023 season. People don't seem to have the same expectation for the DBs. We have 1 elite DB committed for 2024. We weren't even in the conversation for many 5-star DBs. So, the complaining is only because we were in it to the end with top DTs. I see it as a positive. We will get our share moving forward. It already started with Armondo Blount.
